Besides, really good games only come out like once every few years, so the awards don't mean as much as, say, the Academy Awards for films.

Eh, the Oscars are really out of touch these days anyway.  The Artist won its awards not because it was a good film, but because it reminded the Oscar judges of the "good old days".
