OKAY SO
I finished Half-Life. I figured out the tricks to Xen:
Use the Hivehand extensively. The ammo regenerates rather quickly, homes in on enemies, and deals decent damage. If you're being swarmed it's not reliable, since even with the regeneration you can only hold 8 at once, but from a safe spot it's great.
Learn to snipe with the crossbow, especially without using the scope. It can kill most enemies quickly, including Alien Controllers (though they may dodge the bolt).
Revolver is also great against Alien Controllers.
Final boss is really easy by comparison, I finished with full health and suit power:
Strafe EVERYWHERE
Turn off the guidance laser on the RPGs, then shoot them at the health-regenerating crystals
When he shoots a portal at you, take it, then raid any corpses for supplies. Then get out as quickly as possible, as the Alien Controllers respawn in at least the first room (Not sure about the others)
If you've taken out the crystals but haven't used all the portals, spray him with fire from the SMG or some similar weapon
When his head opens (All portals taken and all crystals shattered), get above him, pull out the Gluon Gun, aim at his brain, and pull the trigger.
It's not that bad a fight.
