In my experience, that's usually the problem. Parents just don't have the time these days to screen everything that's out there, so to keep their kids safe they simply ban a show/game/website if they've heard anything bad about it. Personally I think the parents have it right; in this type of situation it is better to err on the side of caution.
Note to self: the bolded statement is a good material to start a debate, i.e. "is a show OK to watch just because there are more unethical programs out there?" If anyone has the time to phrase it better and put it up, please do so.
