Whenever I see a notification for any kind of app on my news feed, I block it.
That said, I like fb for its good uses. Easy interaction with people who aren't near you - I don't refuse people at my college, but I don't go out looking for them since they're within 3 blocks of me at any given time, for most of the year. Also, I'm friends with like 13 people from bands I listen to, including some random obscure European bands, and it's cool to be able to communicate with them (because Europeans are smarter than Americans, they all know English).
