Minifigs: 4
Price: USD 10.99
We’ll be taking a look at one of the smaller Indiana Jones sets, straight from Raiders of the Lost Ark!
The Box
The action shown here on the box is certainly very lively, certainly making it an eye catcher. I also like the artwork on the border – while it is subtle, it is a nice detail and has that adventurous feeling to it. On the top right you’ll find Indiana (as portrayed by Harrison Ford) gazing into your eyes, giving you a subconscious feeling that you ought to buy this set…

The back of the box has the set superimposed on an old map of North and South America. It also has an advertisement for set #7199: The Temple of Doom, and the first LEGO Indiana Jones video game.

The top of the box has the minifigs included with this set, each of them spectacularly designed.
The Pieces
Inside you’ll find two bags of pieces as well as the instruction booklet.

As you could probably tell from the box art, the majority of the pieces in this set are tan and brown. It also is jam packed with all sorts of uncommon parts.

Ambush in Cairo actually comes with a 4x4x3.5 barrel – which is a piece we haven’t seen for the most part since the days of LEGO Western. Better yet, it’s a tan barrel, making it unique to this set. Also included in this set are two green apples, a pan, a pearl gold plate, two wagon wheels, two buckets, a purple wedge piece, a turban, and a ninja wrap.
The Instructions
The instructions feature a background much like old parchment paper.

As always, an inventory of all the parts in the set is listed in the back, along with a number for LEGO Customer Service.
The Build and Design
The set comes with four minifigs. From left to right, they are Indiana Jones, Marion Ravenwood, a Cairo Swordsman, and a Cairo Thug. Since they are from a licensed theme, the minifigs are fleshies. I must also point out that the skin tone for the Cairo Swordsman and Thug are slightly darker than Indy’s and Marion’s.

None of them have back printing except for the Swordsman.

However, Marion’s head does have dual printing on it. Turning her head around will reveal a scared expression.

Here’s the Thug’s head without the ninja wrap on. His torso also has a striking resemblance to Luke Skywalker’s outfit from A New Hope.

The first part of building is to simply place the gun piece into the barrel.

The fruit stand is assembled next. The construction is simple but the end result is certainly appealing. The gold plate is the perfect centerpiece for this little stand.

Several 1x1 round brown bricks are used to make the stand, as well as four tan cones.

It isn’t amazing, but it does have some good pieces.

The cart doesn’t look the best; I’m not too sure what the yellow bricks are supposed to represent.

I’m also thinking that another row of 1x6 tan tiles could be added.

Also, the slope pieces look a little odd protruding from the sides of the cart like that.

However, the wheels do look good on the cart.

After building, you’re left with a pistol and a 1x1 round dark bley plate.

Here is the set in its entirety. It’s almost like a battle pack from Star Wars, considering the fact that there are four minifigures and several different components to the set.

Indy and Marion stand at the ready, with a rather…unique assortment of weaponry.

On the other side we have the Swordsman and the Thug with his club.

I’m ashamed to admit that I have never seen any of the Indiana Jones movies – therefore, I cannot say how accurate this is compared to Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The set lives up to its name.

These apples are pretty big, seeing as they are the same size as a minifig’s head…
Final GradeDesign: 6/10 – The design isn’t impressive and the cart is flawed, however the set does at least look nice.
Parts: 10/10 – Lots of tan and brown pieces, as well as uncommon pieces like the apples, the plate, and the barrel.
Minifigs: 10/10 – The set comes with four, which is a high number for only an eleven dollar set. All four of them are exceptionally well designed and have a lot of great accessories.
Build: 6/10 – It’s short and there isn’t any interesting about the build itself.
Playability: 9/10 – Whether you want to recreate a scene from the movie or make your own adventure, the large number of minifigs and accessories contribute a lot to the playability factor of this set.
Price: 8/10 – USD 10.99 is a little bit high for a set with 79 pieces, but bear in mind that it also comes with four minifigs.
Final Grade:49/60 or 8.2/10Whether you are an Indiana Jones fan or if you simply want to get a decent amount of rare pieces, this set is just for you. It’s a great set to pick up if you have some spare dollar bills in your pocket. If you plan on getting this set, plan on getting it soon – seeing as LEGO has discontinued the Indiana Jones line, it won’t be too long until all the Indiana Jones sets are sold out as well.
