New announcement: Added Better Spam Protection

Added Better Spam Protection
For all hosted forums.

Added some new features help detect spam registrations and posts.

If a spam post is judged to be likely spam it will be given a CAPTCHA image that will be required in order to create a post. This is based of the keywords inside the post and the links found in the post.

If your posts require a lot of verification we also have the option to disable this system which can be done by going to Admin -> Under Forum -> Post and Topics -> Disable Spam Check for posts

New Announcement: Custom Dynamic Signature Creator

Just added this feature under Admin -> Promote Your Forum in the admin section of your forum.

Allows you to create a custom signautre using your forum's information.
Includes who's online now, total messages, topics, and members and the latest post on the forum!

This information is cached and is updated every three minutes.

You can customize the background image of the signature and adjust the two main colors.

Updated the e-Commerce Addon New Version

This a major update to the e-Commerce addon for your forum. Which allows you to sell physical and digital products on your forum.

+Added guest purchase product support. Guests can now buy items and use the shopping cart

New announcement: Server Migration! Servers Moving Downtime

Server Migration!
Moving all sites over the next week to a new server provider. There will be own time as this occurs. Large amounts of data will need to be copied over.

Also if you have custom domains will need to repointed to the new ip address of servers. Will post the information once the sites are moved over.

We have done some major new updates to the gallery, store, classifieds system on SMF For Free.
Full change list below. These updates should make your forums even better.  We are working on some cool portal updates as well for the ezPortal system. Any feedback, ideas are welcomed and can be posted in our support forums.

Latest Classifieds Updates
-Fixed who is viewing for categories/listings
-Fix bug on autoaccept bid for sending email to seller
-Added failed win pm on autoaccept if the bid did not meet the reserve price
-Email now sent to the seller if the bid is auto accepted
-Fix display of private bids to the listing owner on the view bids page
-Do not auto accept bid if reserve price is greater than the bid amount

-Fixed delete picture not deleting files
-Fixed possible undefined errors for the storeipn files
-Items that do not require shipping no longer go towards shipping conditions

New announcement: SMF 2.0 Release Candidate 2 Public is out!

Simple Machines is proud to announce the release of SMF 2.0 RC2 Public. This is the long awaited second Release Candidate for 2.0 and is one of the last steps towards 2.0 going gold. Literally hundreds of bugs that were reported after the release of RC1 have been fixed and improvements have been made to security, stability, and performance. We recommend that all users of earlier development versions upgrade as soon as possible.

As promised, 2.0 RC2 boasts our new Curve theme, which has been made the new default theme. The previous default theme has been renamed Core. Please note that the Classic and Babylon themes have been removed from the package and are now only available on the theme site.

Major changes since the last public release:
Inclusion of the Curve theme.
Three brand-new smiley sets.
960 new entries in the changelog, which consist of:Fixes for a significant number of bugs reported by Beta Testers, Charter members, and community members.
Hundreds of queries optimized for faster performance (new indexes, re-written queries, changes to column type, etc)
Canonical link support for better search engine indexing
New feature: ability to have different readmes in packages for different languages
New feature: ability to delete languages (oops! we forgot that earlier)
Linktrees have been added to the lower-areas of the forum and to the admin, moderation and profile sections.

SMF 1.1.11 released

Simple Machines announces the release of SMF 1.1.11, addressing multiple vulnerabilities found in SMF 1.1.10. Also for those still using the SMF 1.0.x branch, an upgrade to 1.0.19 was released. We strongly recommend that all users upgrade as soon as possible.

Upgrade automatically by visiting your administration center, where a notice will be displayed prompting you to upgrade. Click the link, confirm the changes and your forum will be up to date again. Additionally, you can upgrade using the package manager by downloading the attached patch, uploading it to the package manager, and applying it as prompted. For help with this refer to the Package Manager section of the Online Manual.

If you cannot upgrade using the package manager, please follow the instructions posted in the Online Manual about installing and upgrading. If you experience a session verification error when inputting FTP details for updating process, please see this topic.

It may be necessary to apply the upgrade manually if mod conflicts mean that you cannot install the patch through the package manager. Instructions for doing this can be found on manual upgrades page for SMF 1.1.11 and 1.0.19.

New announcement: SMF 2.0 Release Candidate 3 is out!

Hello all,

We are pleased to announce the immediate release of SMF 2.0 RC3 to the public. This version marks the third release candidate for 2.0, including about 350 new entries in the change log, consisting mostly of bug fixes, interface tweaks and fine-tuning of the new Curve theme.

We strongly recommend all users of earlier development releases to upgrade to this release, for it contains several security fixes.

While we are confident that there are no major problems with this release, we want to remind you that it is still not to be considered stable software. We do not recommend its use in live environments and if you are not comfortable with using this release candidate, we advise you to wait until the release of the final version before using the 2.0 line.

Highlights of this release include:
* Several security-related fixes.
* Better compatibility with RTL languages.
* Added curvy headers to loads of tables throughout SMF for the best Curve experience.
* Fine-tuned conversation view in the personal messages section.

ezPortal and Gallery System Updates

We have made a couple updates to the forum system in a couple of modules. Inclduing two new blocks for ezBlock a Twitter and Facebook Comments ezBlock.

Fixed bug in which html/javascript content is displayed in html ezBlocks and webpages. Should work better now for codes that used quotes

Fix possible ezBlock update issue
Fixed missing text string for gallery views for SMF gallery ezBlock
Added support for remotefilename for SMF Classifieds ezBlock and added alt tags to classifieds images.
Added membergroup color to the poster name for the board ezBlock
Fixed some possible layout issues depending on how columns are setup
Moved where the collasping of columns code is on the page to make it xhtml compliant.

New announcement: SMF For Free Server Move! Custom Domain Users Read
      
We are moving servers for SMFForFree and CreateAForum most users will not see any downtime at all.
For custom domain users (not using smfforfree*.com or createaforum.com) sites you will need to update the ip address of your domain at your domain register company

IP's for the servers listed below:
68.233.250.128 -> smfforfree.com
68.233.250.129 -> smfforfree2.com
68.233.250.130 -> smfforfree3.com
68.233.250.131 -> smfforfree4.com
68.233.250.132 -> createaforum.com


With this new upgrade we are looking at greater performance using 64bit with the latest version of php and gain way more ram.

SMF For Free - New Upgrade Downloads System Pro

New upgrade added. A download management system which allows forum admins to setup categories and add downloads and allow users to download files. Manage settings to customize the download system and you can even charge on a credit basis for downloads.

Price: $30 one time fee. This addon is also free if you are on the ultimate package plan.
Notes: Files are restricted to no more than 5mb each if locally hosted.


Features:
Credit System - Allows downloads to require credits to downloads. Credits can be bought via Credit Packages integrated with PayPal
Credits can be gained by uploading files, creating comments. Credits can be used by download files, viewing the download page.
File Space Manager shows how much space a user is using and allows you to delete downloads
Upload Quota limits for member groups
Membergroup level wait time in between downloads in minutes
Membergroup level max downloads per day
Download category's can be restricted by number of posts and age level

Users can add their own products. New permission for users to manage their own products to a category that has the userstore permission. With the Userstore permission they gain two new tabs MyProducts and MyTransactions. MyProducts lists the products the user controls and MyTransactions lists any purchases/orders that were made from their products.

Fixed bug if caching enabled showed hidden pictures on index page blocks
Using php date function instead of smf's internal time format to format exif original date time taken
Removed the calculation for fstopnumber now using the internal computer value if present or empty using the original fstopnumber without the calculation
Fixed a bug if selected copy image to another category when you uploaded a picture and had no zero user categories and had normal categories would not let you copy the picture and vice versa.
Fixed bug if you only had sharethis sharing enabled it would not show on view picture display

New announcement: SMF 2.0.2 and 1.1.16 critical security patches released

Hello all,

Simple Machines Forum project has released SMF 1.1.16 and SMF 2.0.2 security patches for the SMF community.
Critical security issues have been identified and fixed with this patch, therefore it is highly recommended to make sure you update your forums immediately.
A few bug fixes for SMF 2.0.x are also available with the patch.

If you use 2.0.1, you can update your forum to 2.0.2. using package manager. You should see the notification in Admin panel, allowing you to download and install seamlessly. If you don't have a notification about the update, please run the scheduled task "Fetch Simple Machines files".
You can also download the patch for 2.0.1 from the customize site: smf_2.0.2 patch, and install it through package manager.

If you use 1.1.15, you can update to 1.1.16 with the smf_1.0.22_1.1.16 patch, also using package manager.

If you use older versions of SMF, you can upgrade with the full upgrade packages from the downloads page.
