Title: Lego Message Boards
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 08, 2008, 02:45:34 pm
.... Reboot Complete.

Welcome Omega Blademan.

/logout

Goodbye.

... Ok, now that that's over with, discuss the Lego Message Boards here! Don't test post please, and don't quote posts that would be considered spam here, because it'll be considered as a spam post and deleted.

What happened to the old topic?

Title: Re: Lego Message Boards
Post by: Rakoua on August 17, 2008, 05:50:44 am
It was assimilated into our archives.
By the way, with Spambusters down and the LMBs falling into spam...
I am beggining to doubt it can be saved.

It's falling into spam yes... Guess why?

Anyway, we can still report all the spammy posts.

Empire has passed 12,000 posts... first LEGO member to reach that high. When will he stop? No one knows...

Quote
The only real forum in the message boards was...the LEGO Mindstorms forum, the old one restricted to only RCX owners who registered their product. Oh...it was a brilliant forum, excellent mods...who actually did allow links to other forums and Google and such...remember Blade?
Yeah, I even remember when everyone was allowed to post there, but we kept it secret. Actually, one of the ones that was on there was here, but... He just disappeared, though I think he's still on BZP... Remember Al?

Quote
And nonetheless LEGO unfortunately decided to wipe the forum clean, telling everyone that a new mindstorms forum would be made which hasn't been released yet to this day.
:-/ Wait, do you have an NXT Rahkshi? If so, is there any way to register it? If there is, try it, and see if you can...

Title: Re: Lego Message Boards
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 24, 2008, 11:21:02 am
Hmm... If we can register it, we could see if there's a private one, that Private Forum thing is a little suspicious, and maybe it also means that there's a private NXT forum that no-one 'cept people who have one can view?

The LMB's are waaaaaaay to spam filled. If I where a mod it would be better. Mods let spam posts through then lock topics saying "too much spam" and that just is not cool. And they let through double posts and dont ban users for spamming or double posting and topics that are the same as other ones and just lock the old one.

Well...if we never make a "maniac status" we should be ok... some people spam to see their name last on a topic, but others do it to get their post count up.
WHAT if you mad a rule that every deleted post reduced the writer's post count by 10??? That might disuade some...

There was a non-existant image at certain post levels, and it had the IE x box, so we nick-named the glitch rank, "Rank X".

AGREED!
The thing I hate the most about LMB is that many of my posts go into a black hole of data somewhere...They don't make the boards, don't show as rejected... they just drift away.......

ok - so you guys have all talked about why you hate the LMB....

but before you should hate something - you should probably know why it's it's like that...

Notice that MyLegoNetwork has drop downs in all of it's communication?  Notice also that once you enter a birthday in your LEGO ID that you can't change it?  Notice also that LMB are moderated?

Do you think LEGO purposely did this? In order for you to 'hate' it?  Do you think that LEGO, a huge company would actually design it that way purposely?

hmmm....

it has to be with COPPA.

(someone ask, 'What is COPPA') and I will tell you.

You misunderstand. We don't hate it because it's moderated(Though one reason is the weeks it takes to approve one little post >_>), we dislike it because of the numerous amounts of SPAM there, and the fact that on-topic stuff isn't approved, while spam is. >_>

Below are 3 postings with the words, 'hate'.

I was merely mentioning that there is a reason why it's designed the way it is.  And I know the LMB's can be frustrating - as I have been there.

There is a tremendous amount of traffic there.  And it could be that someone puts in PII data in one of the messages, or cyberbullying or something like that.  So the spam posts may be 'safer' than some of the other types of posts they get.  It could also be that there is a group of moderators, approving a single message, without the context of the rest of the thread.  A whole lot of reasons.  So yeah, I am not a huge LMB supporter, but if I am 6, 7, 8 years old, it may be the only place I can go to that is safe, and my parents approve.

Again, it is due to COPPA, and if anyone wants to know, by asking 'what is coppa', then I will explain.

Ok, say I post in the "WHICH TOA IS THE STRONGEST", there might be things about "I want Axonn to appear in 2010," or "The Toa Stools are the new Toa," but I post that I think Lewa Nuva Phantoka is one of the strongest, and it gets rejected for being off-topic... That's what we mean.

but maybe Lewa Nuva Phantok isn't the STRONGEST, and it's the WEAKEST?

and therefore it is off topic.  ;)

so that is when you post "Toa-Lewa Nuva Phantoka is one of the strongest" or ""ToaLewa Nuva Phantoka is one of the strongest" or ""ToaLewa Nuva Phantoka" is one of the strongest" and it gets through!  ;)

and the ones that post back that "Toa-Lewa Nuva Phantoka" isn't the right name - won't get through cause they are off topic!  ;D

Actually, the mods haven't told anyone AFAIK not to spam, and take a look Here (http://mln.smfforfree4.com/index.php/topic,1341.0.html) for what's considered spamming. Which is what should be on the LMBs in terms of spamming rules.

You don't get punished on the LMBs...

*Ignores revival rule and necromances like I did with ZETS*

...

Quote from: Me, what Lego thinks I said
Easy, make a LEGO machine of combat of a sword, and use it to help me defend myself, plus make a shelter.
Quote from: Me, what I did say
Easy, make a LEGO MOC of a sword, and use it to help me defend myself, plus make a shelter.
Quote from: Me, What I meant
Easy, make a LEGO My Own Creation of a sword, and use it to help me defend myself, plus make a shelter.

Heh, here's my response.
Quote from: Me, response
... What. I meant My Own Creation, not Machine of Combat... Though I guess a Battle Machine would help too =P

Don't forget the handful of posts that read, "how do you talk to mods????" in the Talk to the Mods topic. It's these type of posts, the ones that fall into the "I-can-answer-my-own-question-just-by-browsing-through-two-pages-of-the-topic" category, that drive me insane. Then five people respond, "Well, you talk to the mods by..." and their responses take up a third of one of the pages in the topic! It's absurd!

Title: Re: Lego Message Boards

Five people respond because it takes a day for posts to get through, and noone knows if someone's answered yet... But I quit LMBs a while back...

They should have a warning that pops up when you open the post screen that says

"Did you read the topic first to see if your question is already answered or your comment has already been made?"

yeah that would help and if any one made a copy or quoted the message it should give you a option to go right to the post

What I find ironic about the LMBs compared to us is that the site is administrated by we kids, yet there is very little spam here. On the other hand, the LMBs is run by grown-ups, and there is an endless amount of spam being posted, even though posts are to be approved by the moderators.

I think it is because many adults expect LESS from children then they are actually capable of.   Kids, on the other hand, often expect more.
And if the LEGO mods have no school age children of their own, they would be even more likely to underestimate their capabilities.

I found something hilarious in the Star Wars forum. legoliese had posted an announcement that the different HQs were getting gory, and out of hand. The funny part is,THEY'RE the ones who were allowing it. Don't ask me to not do something if you're going to allow it. Not that i post in the HQs.......

But they probably can't do it that well... since their posts get approved 5 days after they are posted allowing anyone to post a reply to something.
Roleplaying shouldn't even be on there... it doesn't work on a place like them.

But the good thing was they weren't spam.
I like their MLN Forum.
And I think the 'Sign up sheets' in the LEGO News Forum are pointless. Members sign up, never come back, nothing else in the signing up= SPAM.

Is there a Rank higher than Maniac?

Rank X?
Sounds cool. What did its logo look like?
If that played a part in MLN on day... XD.

The post count gained in the glitches was soooo high that the image glitches out and turns into that red X, so it was called Rank X.

OK, eh, I didn't read all 5 pages, but I bet that I've got something to say that nobody's mentioned. It took me from r1 to r10 to even find this place. They post in LMB's because that's all they know. MLNO or MLNTeam or the other guys would quickly make them look away from tne LMB's, true or false?

Oh no wonder it didn't show anything for me, it's supposed to be a broken image xD

No, we still post there, but if the spam and such was cleaned up, it'd be a much better place. That and if the psots were approved faster... I think the Racers forum was updated like once or twice this week, compared to around 3 times or more a week back in '07.

Title: Re: Lego Message Boards

Their contests?
EPIC FAIL.
Sometimes they say there's a limit of something like 50, and then there's like 500 posts instead.
All because of that moderating...
And then they break down, never to be seen again except for a few exceptions.

Out of all the 'forums' there, I say the MLN, News and BIONICLE are the spammiest.

Title: Re: Lego Message Boards
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on March 15, 2009, 09:23:10 am
Racers is actually not very spammy, with the exception of stuff by Jamesdey =P

News isn't that bad in some topics, though In-Commands are the downfall of the forum.

MLN is on the brink of being spammy, though it's not too far gone.

Bionicle? >_> *Remembers the "Bionicle Is Not Ending In 2009" topic there last year* >_<

Good Gosh.

Someone (I might) should complain to LEGO and ask if they could stop discussion about people wanting to be team leaders, because it just causes fights and spam.

Come to think about it, this could be a good time to bring SpamBusters into action!

And should you ever go in the LMBs expecting sane, rational posts... what in the world were you thinking?

The LMBs are an asylum for only those who spam the most... a dumping ground for spammers. Don't spend too much time there, or you'll become a spammer yourself.

Lol, is the LMB even running any more? I thought that it'd died out with MLN years ago.

No, because the LMBs survived a lot more than that. =P

MLN probably has active members too, people who just joined recently.

They do indeed have active members too, from the looks of it. =O But LEGO's abandoned MLN, so, well, there's nothing new for us. =P

Well, there is something keeping them active....

People there consider having tons of posts affects their status. Also, a lot of people there are new, since it is LEGO.com, the place where a LOT of kids go.

KoH was a LMB group organized to stop forum spam.

I wish the KoH were still around, but despite attempts to bring the group back, it's pretty much impossible, especially with some of the mods in the past expressively denying talk of the KoH. I'm not sure if that's changed, though, it's been a while since I've been there. =/

It was around for a while back in 2005, if my memory serves me right. I want to say that members of the LMBs are aware of it now, but I can't be certain; it's possible the Wiki on it has something, which might be good for it's awareness. But I'm not sure at this moment. ^^'
