Post by: Jayko on November 01, 2011, 06:09:12 pm I have a feeling LU is feeling the pain of FTP... and is trying to get subscribers back to pay for the server load FTP is giving....

We don't care about our paying customers, we want to give special treatment to people who don't pay a dime, but yet entice them into getting a sub, and then FORGET ABOUT THEM! MWAHAHAHAHA" Title: Re: COME BACK FOR FREE! Post by: Mahri828 on November 02, 2011, 09:48:03 am They're just trying to take in more money, because people like me won't pay for the actuall membership, so they're hoping that we'll go for half price. It makes sense.

It makes sense. If they were to lower the cost of their sub, from 10 to 5 bucks, they would get a LOT more players in. That I am sure of. I believe it would probably increase their revenue. Title: Re: COME BACK FOR FREE! Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on November 02, 2011, 03:14:06 pm I REALLY wish they would offer a sub by HOURS like Slooh does.
For someone like Mak who can only play on weekends, it makes much more sense. Title: Re: COME BACK FOR FREE! Post by: Mahri828 on November 03, 2011, 12:43:08 am Yeah, that's why I play online games that are FTP now, it's way nicer. And LOTRO and LoL are better games than LU anyways.

I don't want to get into a debate, but the quirks, fun outfits, and the ability to build with bricks that you can play in, outweighs bashing, hacking, and running around in other games. We need a debate topic for this. *Tries to think of a good title* As for your actual argument, I have one word for you: Minecraft. Mojang is obviously doing just fine on their business model (buy once, play forever). Even if the subscription system is a necessary evil because of how many people they need to support, LEGO might do well to at least take a look at Mojang's interaction with the community; raise the iron curtain, LEGO, and people will be MUCH more open to whatever price you're charging at the time. Some folks like to be able to calculate exact odds of loot drops/figure out the best enemies for tokens per hour/see how properties are saved and stored so as to save reliably/know exactly what each Settings option does so they can ACTUALLY optimize the game for their comuputer (not to mention we'd be able to get definitive proof of cheating from a mile away, allowing US to do some of YOUR work [finding and reporting cheaters] FOR you!). And besides, more transparency and user-creator interaction would, at the very least, reassure us that you care about us and not just our money. Title: Re: COME BACK FOR FREE! I guess what it really comes down to is the theme aspect of the game. I really enjoy LEGO Universe because I have a connection to it, LEGO has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Minecraft, or LOTRO, or WoW on the other hand has no connection to me. Now if I were to begin playing those games, I would. But I'm not ready to add yet another time sucker to my life :P Title: Re: COME BACK FOR FREE! Post by: Canama on November 03, 2011, 05:32:09 pm I might redownload and play this weekend, but I will be honest:
As far as games go, LU was actually not that good. Why play it when I can play TF2 for free? I've only played for a few months and yet I have sunk ~150 hours into it. I spent $10 on store items, but I didn't have to. I wanted to thank Valve. Why play it when I can play Minecraft for free? I paid $20, and I've gotten more gameplay out of it than some $50 games. It allows me to be more creative as well. Why build a house on a little property when I can do as I please with a whole world? Or Metroid Prime Trilogy. Three games (Some of my favorite games ever, to be specific), ~60 hours of play, just $50. One payment. All of those games are both cheaper and far more fun than LU. So that's my two cents. -Canama Title: Re: COME BACK FOR FREE! Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on November 03, 2011, 06:05:10 pm All the battle games seem to be pretty much the same to me.. and boring at that. I guess it is a matter of taste. As Jayko said, I enjoy the aspects of LU that other games lack.. the building, being able to animate and share my creations, and other LEGO related features. I like the minifigs, and the endless ways to customize them. I like the ability to choose what my gameplay will consist of every time I l log on. I love LEGO, and I enjoy LU.
Title: Re: COME BACK FOR FREE! Post by: Canama on November 03, 2011, 06:09:18 pm In TF2, I can customize what my characters wear and what weapons they have.
In Minecraft, I can build whatever I want. Also, thanks to Redstone, I can make things as complex as a 32-bit computer. And as for "choosing what my gameplay is like"? I can build, I can survive, I can mine, I can farm, I can explore, or I can do any combination of those. There are more categories than just LU and "battle games", and even some of these so-called "battle games" are unique and fun. (I.E. TF2) -Canama If you want to start a debate about games, do so in the debates area.. otherwise, stay ON topic. ~MsRR Title: Re: COME BACK FOR FREE!
