Title: Hero Factory Movie Being Made
Post by: Ddude The Insane on May 30, 2012, 02:26:19 pm
And the Bionicle fandom wept.

*ahem*

Just like Bionicle received 4 movie tie-ins to the storyline, Hero Factory will soon (read: eventually) be receiving a movie of its own. The difference? This one will be handled by Universal Studios, and will be coming to theaters. Currently the plan is a live-action CGI movie, in the style of Transformers.

Yeah, I'm scared too.

Yeah, this should be fun. I'm gonna watch simply to see what it'll be like. Trainwreck or not, should be at least a little fun. =P

I actually somewhat hope it's kinda like Transformers, simply so I might be able to convince others to see it. Will wait for reviews first, to see if I should just wait for the DVD or not. =P

Train wrecks: horrible, but you can't look away. *looks away, rendering this post nonsensical*

Well, it has to be better than any movie starring Adam Sandler, Kristen Stewart, or Sacha Baron Cohen. >_>

It is fascinating that LEGO is delving into the big screen, rather than direct-to-DVD flicks. What audience do they want to capture with the lure of popcorn and seats with cupholders? Those who would rather have the sets built and played with for them?

[rant] Why don't they invest all of the time and money that goes into a major motion picture, into, I don't know, giving MLN new levels, a newer, better Drome Racing Challenge -esque game, or revive old sets like Rock Raiders?[/rant]

a newer, better Drome Racing Challenge -esque game,

I don't know if I'd want that, after the trainwreck that was LRC. =/ Unless by better you meant definitely better than that, drawing all inspiration from the original. =P

Yes, I would certainly like to see most of the concepts drawn from the original DRC (minus the almost religious devotion of players to their respective team), with some newer innovations to prevent cheating and allow the leaderboards to become more accessible for other players.

Back to the movie: There is a very large difference between telling the story using CGI, and using CGI to tell the story. We've had special effects around long enough for most moviegoers to simply not be "wowed" by them anymore. There needs to be something more: an understandable plot with a good script to move it along. Hopefully, Hero Factory won't go the way of the Star Wars prequels and forget about this for the sake of showing off how "totally awesome, bro!" effects can be.

Haha, very true. xD

This could either be explosively awesome, or a hilarious trainwreck. The problem is, we won't know which until it releases, or there are trailers. Maybe not even then, in the latter case. =P
