Title: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Truth on May 03, 2009, 09:39:42 pm
I'm surprised that no one made it before!
discuss anything Mario here. (as far as I'm concerned, Mario means Wario and Donkey Kong as well).

First game i evr played. I spent a lotta time on it. Although i must admit,TTYD was pretty good too. And more extensive.

It still irritates me though that they removed the turn-based battle system. Much more fun that way.

why do they always change Bowsers personality? in the paper mario series, he's just comic relief, and in super mario galaxy, he's a super powerful monster!

Yeah. That series is getting darker, actually. Seems like most Nintendo games r.

Title: Re: Super Mario topic
Post by: The Truth on May 08, 2009, 09:10:33 pm
nothing wrong with that, as long as it doesn't get too dark. Twilight Princess, for example, was one of Zeldas two darkest games, (the other being Majoras Mask, which was awesome) and it's the best game ever!
and TTYD, the darkest game in the paper mario series,  (spm was dark, but even Mimi and Dimentio couldn't make as dark as ttyd), was the one of the best.
Quote from: Dimentio

I think super galaxy is hard... After you get all 120 stars, you beat it as Luigi. Once you get all 120 Stars, you unlock a secret world on the Green Tri planet, and have to beat it as Mario and Luigi, totaling in getting 242 stars.

Title: Re: Super Mario topic

I finally got all 242 stars. here's another secret: if you get 9999 star bits, all of the coconuts turn into watermelons.

Title: Re: Super Mario topic
Post by: Ddude The Insane on July 20, 2009, 03:47:52 pm
Sorta. They took out the turn-based system, whichis the primary difference. Also, you can play it in 2-D platform mode,or "flip" to 3-D.

how do you know Venom? I mean,I know you know each other IRL,but If he wouldn't let you borrow it,he can't be your bro...

Oh,and also, you can play as Mario,Peach,Bowser or Luigi. And instead of partners, you have Pixels.

@tiny text-funny,i actually guessed that.

Well, the first one is decent. It doesn't have a lotta depth, but it's a pretty good game all in all. Of course,I'm biased in its favor because it was the first HOME console game i ever played, and it's pretty much what got me started on gaming. That and Super Mario Bros 2 for GBA. ah,how i loved that game. I never beat Wart though, my dad did.

press A a lot =P

*looks forward to all the Mario games* I am serious when i say that Bowser's Inside Story could be the best DS game ever made, besides Pokemon. NSMB Wii could be good to, and I KNOW Galaxy 2 will be good.

September 14. That is the confirmed release.

Yeah, we got our next 3-D home console game, Superstar Saga sequel #2, and 2-D platformer for Mario. all that's left is Paper Mario 4.

he's my boyfriend I thought about buying it off the Wii Shop channel, but wasn't sure.
I have that one and the 3rd one. The graphics on the 1st one aren't that great, but the game is fun...

And Final Fantasy: 365 1/2 Days... and Metroid Prime: Other M (or is it Samus: Other M? Oh well)... and a new line of a bunch of other games.... But Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wii look the best (saw this at the Nintendo meeting thing). I can't wait to be able to ride Yoshi in Super Mario Galaxy II! ;D

Was it E3?  Do you subscribe to Nintendo Power?

Yes to the first, no to the second.

BTW, in SPM, has anybody beaten the Flopside pit? If you have, is it true that, if you get the mario card, you get unlimited 3D?

Well, I've beatem the Flipside Pit... but the Flopside one is SICK tough. So I don't know.

And believe me, you'll need a core gamer to beat teh pit. I've been gaming since i was in Kindergarten, I'm pretty good with Mario games. And i haven't even gotten to number 50 yet.

Anyone here have the original Mario Bros. on Virtual Console? I do! It really shows the beauty of 2-D platformers, IMO. Oh, and that reminds me, M&L Inside Story is partially 2-D, inside Bowser's body is 2-D.

Oh yeah, there have been some good quotable moments. One in particular was my favorite, but it is kinda long and you have to be in context to get the joke.

For some reason I can't think of any good quotes right now...there aren't as many as there were in M&L: PIT. There are a lot of funny moments though, like when Luigi looks for a hammered-to-reduce-size Mario who was captured. He gets stuck inside this thing called a Sockop and walks around pretty much wearing it for a bit XD

Oh yeah, I just remembered one from quite early in the game:

I HAVE SUCTION!

Virtual basically means it appears to be real but isn't.

And on the Wii, there's this thing called Virtual Console, where you can get old games, such as GBA and NES, for pretty cheap and play them on the Wii.

Super Mario Advance 4 for GBA has Super Mario Bros 3, as well as the first Mario Bros, better graphics, and a whole extra world in SMB 3, called World-E. you access levels in world E by using E Cards  and a real life accessory called the E-Reader. the E-cards also unlock new items in the regular game.

So? Each Paper Mario was three years after the one before it. And in a magazine interview, I read some producer from Nintendo said " He wasn't sure if it would remain Turn-based or not". So that sort of confirms it.

Besides, the series has been quite sucessful. I don't think Nintendo would abandon it yet.

I just hope the Partner System would come back. Pixls weren't that great IMO...

Actually, no. He's Chakron, the Third Sage. The Dark Star is asleep, so it wouldn't have been able to have communicated with him. Chakron has a head similar to one of those masks from LoZ: Majora's Mask, but I'm not sure which one.

Go back to underground area you came from. There's a yellow pipe there that you can go through. Go to where the pipe leads and move around, finding a new ability there. That will keep things moving along. Although the ability is NOT tunneling...

Yeah. I don't require thanks. Unless you can send me $500 bucks without finding out my home address  :P

I'm still on teh final boss. Dark Bowser is hard, you gotta deal him some damage, Fawful will heal him from inside, He'll grow huge, you punch his belly, he spits out Fawful, you suck up Fawful, and have a hard battle with him inside. And you have to keep doing it over and over. And I keep failing -_-

Yup. I find his moves to be way more powerful than previous final bosses in this series -_-

Dark Bowser is pretty easy, but Fawful is haaard.

The Shroobs are a nice cameo though.

Post by: The Truth on September 24, 2009, 09:11:13 pm
really?
well, at least you made it to final boss... I'm stuck on Blizzard Midbus.
I found a few good quotes:

Quote from: Fawful
I do not want nuts. Only Mushroom Kingdom.

Quote from: Bowser
Nuisance barge? Buddy, you're like a nuisance SUPERTANKER!

Quote from: Midbus
Go be trashy in this trash hole with this trash robot forever!

Quote from: Midbus
What? No one pressed "Dance". You are broken.

Quote from: Fawful
A winner is you!

EDIT: well, I made it to final boss...

Title: Re: Super Mario topic
Post by: The Truth on October 10, 2009, 08:23:04 pm
There is.
Quote from: Fawful
I have boredom..."
 "Guests? Now I have... FURY!"
"I say to you WELCOME! Welcome to Fawful's Bean 'n' Badge!"
"In this place, beans are like precious treasure milked from a famous cow made of jewels!"
"All who come with beans leave with badges so rare they make mustaches droop with disbelief!"
"What? The story of Fawful? Your words are not beans. I am not wanting them."
"You are like brainless cats that are too dumb to know they are stupid! You have curiosity... ...But my tale is long, so long it makes babies old and hairy lips grow grey with aging. Do you dare hear?"
 "Then now you listen!"
"I am here, merchant of badges, only sometimes with fury, but I once had fury at all times."
"I drizzled rage dressing on the country next door. Rage dressing on a salad of evil!"
"And then the bad men came. Red and Green bad men. I had the punishment. Bad punishment with hammers and jumping on my head and the overheat of my ship."
"I have a little fury even with my remembering... Red! And green! A pair of jumping hammers in red and green who are looking like you!"
 "I HAVE FURY!"
"Those brothers of badness! My brain aches at their overalls! I have fury AND headache now!"
"Fawful would be here, reigning over all and laughing at you! ...But no."
 "SO MUCH FURY!"
"Stupid mustaches! Hairs like the dirty tail of a horse in a barn built by a farmer who is crazy!"
 "...I have calm."
"I am waiting like an elevator."
"I have the commerce. I run Fawful's Bean 'n' Badge, but..."
"The day comes soon when Fawful rises again, and then no baby's candy has safety!"
"I am counting chickens before they are even eggs, before the chickens are even chickens!"
 "I WILL! HAVE! FURY!"
 "I LAUGH AT DEFEAT!"
 "I FIGHT WITH RAGE!"
 "I HURT YOUR FACES!"
 "Hooof... Heffff..."
"D-Did I...Have insanity? Did I...have evil?" "I suppress the fury, but sometimes... The fury has me."
"Red and green puts the fog of rage in my eyes, and my mind goes crazy."

whew. long quote! (no, I didn't memorize all of that.  :P )

Beat Bowser's Inside Story two days ago. If I had've been a little later in playing it though, I wouldn't have beat it before I had to take it back. There was still some stuff I had to do, but I did get to the end of the story, so I don't mind.

I look forward to NSMBW. According to Nintendo Power, it is EPIC WIN. And with 4 players...I hope this'll motivate my parents to play a Wii game other than Madden or the Wii Series. :P

Not like they're crazy about Mario like I am, but...it's Mario. And I have a very subtle way of imposing my will on others. xP

Is the multiplayer mode any good?

And is it better than New Super Mario Bros. (for DS)?

Title: Re: Super Mario topic
Post by: . on November 16, 2009, 06:03:15 pm
the multiplayer is great. basicly you do the levels with 3 players. if one player falls behind there is a feature where they don't have to do that part of the level, by pressing A. i loved the multiplayer for new super mario DS, though they basicly have the same gameplay. the main difference is graphics and controlls.

I HAVE CHORTLES!

In the Super Princess Peach, it was just being like New Super Mario Bros. Wii. There were being 3 Toads in each level, and you were needing all of the to get into the Castle of Bowser. The only differences is that in NSMBWii, you are needing all of the Star Coins. =/

I need help:

In Mario Kart Wii, you have to choose a kart/bike to race. Can anyone tell me the order of the name ofstats of the cars from up to down?(like speed, handling those kinds of things. I only needed the order, becuase i don't understand Japanese.)

So.

I just beat Bowser's Inside Story. Very awesome, it was.

However.

I beat the final boss, went through the ending credits, etc. etc. It displays my ranks at the end. I hit A, then load the game for the post-story...

And I go right back to right before the final battle. Did I... Miss a save point? 0_o

(Not that I don't want to fight that battle again; it was fun, lol.)

Edit: Beat it again; same thing. Guess that's it. Well, except perhaps leveling up so I can beat THE GAUNTLET, by globin. And whatnot. But what is this final rank that the sage speaks of? =O

Anyone have New Super Mario Bros Wii?

I just beat the main part of it... it was somewhat hard at times, but overall the difficulty was just right. But now trying to complete the game in its entirety will be very hard...

Multiplayer is lol sometimes when i play w/ my family. 4 people jumping and spinning and bouncing across a 2D screen is just funny for some reason.

Yeah. I'm stuck on World 9-2. (Yes, I meant to type 9.)

Of course I'm excited about Galaxy 2!

@ZLS-I'm stuck on World 8-1. =P I'd be farther, but I've gotten a lot of new games lately. Is it true you need all of the Star Coins (or w/e they're called) to get into Bowza's castle?

@Hero-this is different. Nintendo updated their trademark on Luigi's Mansion. I don't think they're doing it to protect the game. And some Japanese magazine run by Nintendo is going to make a "surprise reveal from an established franchise". Hey, I can dream. =P

And I suspected you would be looking forward to it. =P

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion

No. it is not true. you need all the star coins to complete World 9. You can complete Bowser's Castle with no star coins.

I may have finished that one, but I was going for the Star Coins and kept messing up.
But atm I'm trying to get all 3 star coins in world 8-Bowser's castle.

It's funny though, I haven't yet completed world 4. Swimming levels make me mad :P

And I have completed worlds 1-3 entirely.

EDIT: I officially beat the game(unlocked everything, all star coins, all of world nine... )

On an unrelated note, is anyone else here planning to get WarioWare D.I.Y. besides me? It looks like the perfect game for me-a lot of short, minigame diversions and the ability to make your own. Mario Kart discussion can happen here right?

only a few days until MK7 is released (though I probably won't get it until at least Christmas, as purchasing a 3ds left me broke...
the customization feature of karts seems cool, and driving underwater, on land and in the sky (that would be flying i guess (or gliding)) is diverse.
all mario kart games are cool though, so this won't dissapoint anyone (unless they miss some characters from the wii game).

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on November 29, 2011, 07:46:40 pm
Yes it can, so that is correct. =)

I want MK3D, but, well, I dunno when I'll get it. Skyward Sword probably broke my budget. >>;

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on November 30, 2011, 08:27:11 pm
so we both have similar problems... the ever present money issue...

i've read that MK7 uses controls similar to MKWii, using the accelerometer/gyroscope (whichever one lets you tilt the 3ds to control steering). hopefully this is true, as the Wii steering was incredible (for me, at least).

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on November 30, 2011, 08:35:58 pm
1. Yep. =P I have money, I just want to conserve it as long as possible, as I'm not sure when I'll get more. =/

2. I think I heard about that, which could be cool. You'd just have to tilt your head with the console, since, well, it's not on a TV like MKWii. =P

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on December 03, 2011, 07:04:32 pm
2: ... I just realized how driving like that would be annoying (although when you drive using gyro you see the game in 1st person). But tilting the 3ds with 3d on makes the image flicker due to the parallax concept of the 3D... hopefully the game works well on gyro, though, as steering that way works well on the wii.

and speaking of the wii, I went online for the first time today on MKWii. its pretty cool having an actual challenge while racing, but very frustrating when my wi-fi decides to kick me off for apparently no reason... i could only get about 4-5 races in a row before wi-fi messed up.

aaaaannd: Super Mario 3D land being my only 3ds game currently, I beat the story mode, which was relatively easy (a few of the later levels were hard, but nothing frustratingly hard). I somewhat wish the levels were larger (like SM64 or Galaxy, where there are multiple goals), but with shorter levels there are more levels.
The Tanooki suit makes the game 100x easier though. If I really want a challeneg I could try a runthrough without using the suit.

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on December 03, 2011, 10:41:56 pm
2. You just realized that? =P But yeah, I can see how it'd be easier, but it's more or less 'no 3d mode'. =P

As for the Wii one, I haven't played that yet. =/

3. Interesting; I've been thinking of getting it, myself. Is it easier than NSMB DS?

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on December 04, 2011, 06:44:53 am
2: yes, i just realized that :p

i've never played NSMBds, so i can't comment on the level of difficulty... but in SM3DL, the level of difficulty increases as the game progresses, with the end being much harder than the beginning, but still fun to play.

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on December 05, 2011, 09:16:51 am
2. I see. =P

3. Well, then, it sounds kinda like NSMBds, so if I ever get it, it's certainly not to be a rental. =P

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on December 05, 2011, 05:30:57 pm
3. depending on the length of the rental, I'm not sure I'd ever advise renting the game (unless you want to make sure you'd enjoy it). But for Mario Games in general, to unlock everything you need to own the game.

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on December 05, 2011, 05:46:55 pm

Mario 64 for N64 for NDS? The N64 game is possibly my favourite game of the series. The size of the game is insane, especially for a N64 game. Galaxy and Galaxy 2 were also really good games.

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on December 06, 2011, 06:17:05 pm
N64; I probably rented it about 5 times or so? And even when I got the DS version I've played it many times, and still haven't beaten it yet. xD(Though, the need for a button to run is slightly disappointing. =/)

Galaxy 2, however, was amazing. Only got to play it for one week, however. =/ Beat the game, though. =P

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on December 06, 2011, 06:23:16 pm
1: I had the N64 game for ages and never completed it entirely (getting all of the stars). I believe I got close to getting 120 stars though.

2: You beat the entire game in a week? story mode or the entire thing (the green stars as well?).

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion

@Flipz: That is actually really impressive. I kinda wish I still had my N64 so that I could beat it...
@Legodac: lol

I recently beat SM3DLand, which was a relatively short game, unfortunately. Beating the levels is easy for most of the game, with a few levels (especially the last one) requiring multiple tries to beat them. However, collecting the three coins in each level is also relatively easy. There were many instances where the designers could have made collecting the coins a bit more of a challenge.
However, it is still a solid game.

MarioKart7 is a different story. The cources are really well done, especially some of the later levels. But even the new beginning levels have good designs. Steering with gyro is easy but works much better without 3D. DS style steering is easier for me and more responsive.
The selection of older courses included is good at times (Maple Treeway, Kalamari(sp?) Desert and more), but I wish they had switched some courses. I really wish they had added two tracks from Game Cube: Baby Park and the course where you only do 2 laps (Wario Colliseum?).
I also wish they had made an entire Wuhu Island track that was super long, like an endurance race or something.
The lack of a VS mode and Missions is also dissapointing. Online works well though.

I've got Mario kart 7. =D I've tried the Gyro, but, strangely, I seem to be failing more often than not. =P Gonna keep trying, however, my skills might just be rusty. =P

1. Alright. I'll add the code once I get through the Grand Prix I started last night. =P

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on December 28, 2011, 11:12:52 am
2: First person does seem faster, but the controls are harder, i find. It is a really cool function though, with 3D off at least.

online is much better than MKWii, I find, especially with the communities.

I also miss the bikes from MKWii, although Kart customization is cool and almost makes up for it.

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion

2. Well, I like the gyroscope turning, but it's probably easier for me, since I used it pretty much since the first time I turned it on. xD I've gotten used to playing with it as a result. =P

3. Yeah, I definitely agree there. I just wish it'd keep you in the community, so you could see who had joined, and actually know if they're on or not. xP Joining yours now, though.

4. That is pretty cool. My Kart's pretty fast, and I've been using it even though I have other parts now. xD

Okay, I'll add the MLNO battle community soon. But I haven't tried battles yet on the 3DS, so I'll have to try it out first.

If only with communities you could call out (like send a Spot Pass message) people who are playing MK7 and have them come to the community...

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on January 04, 2012, 08:26:02 pm
I finally got a 3 star ranking on all of the Grand Prix's. It was relatively easy (compared to doing it on the Wii, which I haven't done after years of owning the game). Now I need to do a ton of races to get coins to unlock everything. Unfortunately, racing computers gets repetitive, but playing online leads to Maka Wuhu races where half the people (more, usually) use the glitch to get way ahead. I hope Nintendo fixes this for online play, and if they can't maybe they'll ban that track (which is somewhat sad, because I like the Wuhu tracks...)

I switched from using my Mii as my main racer to using some more extreme characters, specifically Metal Mario and Shy Guy/Toad. Those two (three) are really different, as MM is all about speed (and weight, which is cool for not getting bumped around), while SG/T is fast starts and is good when I get hit by blue bombs a lot.

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 05, 2012, 09:08:55 am
I still cannot figure out how the glitch even works, so, you won't see me doing it. =P

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on January 05, 2012, 02:58:33 pm
Basically right after the first checkpoint on Maka Wuhu you turn around and boost into the water that is behind the fence. If you have the lower screen map view on, you'll notice that the water is the same water as if you had fallen from the upper level (near the castle). The game thinks you fell from the upper level and puts you back there.

Really annoying. Especially when you do the race twice in a row online and get timed out because the other people finished 30 seconds ago...

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 05, 2012, 03:29:07 pm
Oooh. I think I might wanna try that.

Can't be that bad, though, because if anyone tried to do it on Time Trial, I still managed to beat them. =P

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on January 05, 2012, 05:29:05 pm
1. Try it, I did for fun. But I hate doing it online because i feel bad for those who don't do it. It apparently can get you about a 20 second distance ahead of everyone else if done right.

2. It is that bad, unfortunately. I got a spot pass time trial and one guy was way ahead of everyone else because of the glitch. I did the glitch (albeit not very well) and was still two seconds behind him.
The downside is that you lose your items by doing the glitch.

And, for #1 again: don't do this online. It ruins the track for a lot of people. If everyone does this, Maka Wuhu is gonna be a race of who can do the glitch the best (which may be interesting, but not as fun as actually racing Maka Wuhu, which is one of the better tracks on an already good game of tracks).

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 05, 2012, 05:48:01 pm
1. Yeah, I might only do it on the Grand Prixs, though. =P

2. Huh. That's odd, I did a Spotpass Timetrial of it too, and yet I utterly decimated the competition, and it didn't even register one of the glitchers. Heck, I got first place on one! Though, that was partly because the one I faced at one point ran himself off a cliff, and I had used the mushrooms for a non-glitch shortcut. *whistle*

Man, unlocking all of the parts for the karts is time consuming. So much online racing and coin collecting, since I have yet to recieve a street pass.
and does anyone know what the title given to your mii on the Mario Kart 7 channel means (example: I was 'Comeback Kid' for a while, and 'Model Racer' at one point).

I honestly have no clue; in fact, I'm 'Model Racer' now, IIRC. Could be wrong.

And yes, it is, but apparently there are coin farming communities, and I wouldn't mind having something similar to farm coins. Just to help with the requirements. =)

But you can only get 10 coins per race, so farming communities just give you a better opportunity to get coins.
But to get some parts you need to get a high VR rating (or street pass)... so a lot of online racing and collecting coins at the same time for me.

Actually, for all of them, you can technically unlock them with coins; it's just that the last few require like 10,000 or 20,000 coins.

But playing online would certainly help, yes.

I believe I worked it out to getting a VR of 10000 and 10000 coins. I'm currently at 3600 VR (approx) and 5600 coins (again, approx).

Sweet, that's not too bad, then. I thought you had like 4500 VR when I was racing you the other day, though? Or was I seeing more the VR from the others?

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on January 23, 2012, 07:18:25 pm
Probably the others. I've seen two or three people with over 10000 VR. But then again online sets you up with people in your range, so I guess if I ever get up to 10000 VR I'll see I lot more gold karts and such.

Getting VR up is challenging though, especially with blue shells always hitting me near the end of races. I usually race with heavy and fast karts, with low acceleration and off road, so when I do get hit by a blue shell its not good. Going from 1st to last online happens really quickly sometimes.

Yeah, I believe that happened a few times when I was playing you. Half the time I was involved in that somehow. =P

Yeah, welll. Whenever I think about removing the blue shells from the game I realize how important they are. For example, on MK Wii, you can choose to race in VS mode without items. When you do that, as soon as you get out front you aren't challenged at all, because there's no blue shell to worry about.

Whereas in online play, the first place person is usually close to second place, and when they see a blue shell coming they brake and get passed, just to avoid the shell...

ZLS: That, or, you brake and let the guy tailing you get hit as well, which is a tactic I've been using myself. Doesn't really help much, but it's sometimes fun to be annoying to the people who try to steal your positions. =P Mostly abuse that against the CPU in 150CC, though. =P

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on January 24, 2012, 05:31:43 pm
I always find that by the time I brake the other people are gone and then I still get hit, which is doubly worse for me... Though doing it to the CPU in GPs is easier, as you've said.

Current Combo:
Toad, Zucchini, Slick, Beastly. Though for kicks I sometimes switch Toad for Metal Mario, to basically get max speed (but horrible accel).

Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 24, 2012, 07:32:46 pm
Well, try and time it so that you end up right beside the person as you get hit; if it means you don't brake, perfect. =P

Eh, I just try to get really far ahead so that Blue Shells don't set me back to far. Online I've seen people drop back too late, and they're in third place and get hit by the blue shell.

Also: Mario Kart DS has some really good kart designs. I feel like MK7 wasn't as good, designwise. MKDS has the construction vehicle for Waluigi, and there were some others. MK7 has a bunch of cool karts, but some, like Zucchini and B Dasher, are reused, unfortunately.

But customiation somewhat makes up for that. If only the gliders had more variety in they're stat boosting areas (they're all basically the same, other than design).

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 26, 2012, 11:36:39 am
I agree, though you have to wonder if the reuse of B Dasher was intentional, given that it was the cover-kart last time. =P

And the gliders have more variation than you'd think. ;)

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on January 26, 2012, 11:41:59 am
The B-Dasher is a pretty cool kart though...

According to sites that I've seen, the gliders (all but Beastly and the triangle one) just add a bit to accel and take away from weight. Am I missing anything??

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 26, 2012, 11:57:49 am
1. Yes, yes it is. =P

2. I think that there's some sky maneuvering stuff to consider, but that might not be true. *Shrugs* Aside from that, yes, that's correct.

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on January 26, 2012, 12:14:55 pm
2: I wish they were more different though. For Example:
Paraglider = +Accel - Weight
Flower = +Offroad -Handling
Triangle (Original) = +Speed - Accel
Parasol = +Accel - Speed
Bat= +Handling - Weight
Beastly = +Weight - Handling
Gold = No + no -

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 26, 2012, 12:48:33 pm
Yeah, that might have been nice. I wonder if it was more of a class of stuff for the gliders, however, if only because this was the first time they had any of that, period.

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on January 26, 2012, 03:10:42 pm
Having all of the gliders have the same stats allows for people to choose a glider that they like for asthetic purposes only, I guess, so its the one choice that hardly affects your race but defines your kart...

They should have also added some sort of propeller system as well, for underwater racing. If Nintendo continues with air and water races I can see them adding propellers to choose from in the future.

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 26, 2012, 04:23:42 pm
1. Yeah, though they could've done a better job with the other choices. Don't think I've unlocked to the Paragrider, though; I might just because of the similarity to the Sailcloth from Skyward Sword. =P

2. I was honestly surprised that there weren't customizable propellers, as I thought I had recalled there being some from the pre-release info.

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on January 26, 2012, 05:08:08 pm
1: All unlockables (other than characters) are unlocked at random. I found this both good and bad, as I had to wait to get 4500 before getting the bat glider... which I then ended up not liking. And the beastly glider is also not unlocked at random...

2:I never saw that, although I tried to stay away from pre-release as much as possible to try and keep the surprise of the game(courses and karts etc) a surprise.

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 26, 2012, 05:25:47 pm
I was more referring to screens of the customization thing(Like from the back of the box. =P), and people seeing it at E3 IIRC saying that you could customize a ton of stuff.

I never actually realized which tracks were in until I played myself. =P

Post by: The Host on January 28, 2012, 03:20:47 pm
I'm now almost at 6000 coins... I really wish there were more parts to be earned in between 5000 and 10000 (and 20000 for that matter).

I also wish there was a free run of the Wuhu island, where you could explore the whole thing in a kart (they have it on Wii Sports Resort in a plane, but being able to drive around would also be cool.

When did you get Mario Kart again? =P

Yeah, that would have been interesting.

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion

Christmas Day. I played rediculous amounts of MK7 to get a 3 star rating, which also got me lots of coins... I've been playing a lot less since then, though. Now i'm only on for about an hour a day of online play (less if I'm tired).

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 29, 2012, 02:13:13 pm
I see... =P I got it the day after, then, because I got it on Boxing Day.

Did you go shopping on boxing day?

how far into the game are you, btw?

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 29, 2012, 03:39:47 pm
No, I got it as a present. =P

Nearly a quarter of the way through Mirror Mode, everything else is three starred; and I have about... 2300-2400 coins?

You saw my rating the other night when we raced, so you already know that. =P

/EDIT: Just checked; I have 2245 coins. So my guess was a little off. =P

1: Good. Going out on boxing day is rediculous for where I am... unless you're buying a computer or a tv I don't see the point of going out on boxing day

2: It took me a while to get three stars on some GPs. Blue Shells are the worst thing, especially on the last race in a GP, and you end up in second or third after leading the entire race...

3: Yeah. And is all this racing in first person steering mode? Because that's pretty impressive. I've seen lots of people with 3 star rankings, but only about 4-5 with three stars and a gold wheel.

4: In a way you're lucky to have that amount, b/c you can still unlock parts for a while...

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 30, 2012, 09:04:40 am
1. Yeah; I went to my sister's that day, and passed a mall on the way. There probably wasn't a parking spot to be had there, so I believe that. >_>'

2. Mirror Mode Special Cup. Specifically Rainbow Road. It agrees with you there. Either that, or you fly off into space on those stupid jumps. -_-'

3. Everything in first person mode. I sometimes resort to using the circle pad, but even then, it's in first person mode so that if I need to, I can quickly shift to gyroscope. =P I think I saw someone with 3 stars and a gold wheel the other night when we raced; but then again, it was like 11:30, so I could be mistaken. >_>'

4. Yeah. Though, I got a streetpass, and beat the person, so I unlocked a part ahead of time; so I'll be getting the Beast Glider at about 4500 coins, instead of 5000. =P Need 95 more tags to get the gold part early, though...

Title: Re: Mario General Discussion
Post by: The Host on January 30, 2012, 09:18:47 am
2: That was the last thing I 3 starred. I got so mad a few times when I lost by falling off. That's the worst for me, because that's my own fault...

3: Impressive. I often play in bed while lying down, and the gyro doesn't work so well then... I find that the circle pad controls work better for me. But gyro is fun to do everyonce in a while, and adds a new challenge if I ever want to try to get a gold wheel.

4: I have 0/100 streetpass tags needed for the gold part, so its coins and VR ratings for me, as I don't anticipate getting street passes anytime soon.

2. Yeah, I tend to fall off too. Some times I just get shoved off, though. ::)

3. Ah, i see, makes sense now. =P I don't usually play this while laying down. =P

4. I didn't anticipate it either, and it came as a shock to me when I kept getting streetpass tags. xD They seem to have stopped now, though.... =/

In Canada its the day right after Christmas where the stores have massive sales. It's also a holiday, so most people get the day off, which makes shopping places really busy.

I wish there was a Vs option on MK7 where you could set items to off and computers to hard so that I could race challenging opponents without items to hold me back... Or I'll try to find a busy community with no items.

First off sorry for the double post...

I'm currently working towards getting a top 3 ranking out of all the ghosts that I've recieved from SpotPass. So far the only good one I have is on Neo Bowser City, where I managed a time of 1:56"90something, which puts me just under a second of the best time of seen... Basically the guy with the best time had an incredible race, with near perfect drift boosting and coin nabbing...

Yeah, you might not wanna look at the Maka Wuhu one. =P Or, rather, do, and see if I pop up on there. I'm intrigued. xD

Did you glitch? I regret glitching my time trial, as now I can never set a ghost on an honest race... oh well, now I'll have to see how fast I can do Maka Wuhu using the glitch.

Also: I'm currently #1 on Neo Bowser City on my system, with a time just over 1:56. If you see any ghosts on NBC that are below 1:56 can you let me know?

That was how I tested it after you mentioned how to do it; given that they took out normal versus. =/

And cool, congrats. =) If I do, I'll tell you. Haven't played for a little while, though.
