Title: The Illustrator Topic
Post by: MÆLXTRØM on May 04, 2009, 07:59:03 pm
Discuss vector graphics here.

I'm working on a vector portrait of Mike Barnes from the band RED, and I'm wondering where to go with it.  Right now I have two choices, which do you guys think is better, or should I go somewhere in between, or what?

The effect I'm using is in photoshop but the dude is made with vectors.  I did the face and arms and let Illustrator trace the clothes since they didn't matter as much.

So gimme input plz. =D

In between, and no lightning in his beard.

I felt like the fire on the pants detracted from the fire on his hands and upper body.

I ended up going back to flesh tones for his face and hands, so this is what the final version looks like:

Nothing on his head.

EDIT@  Whoa, we posted at like the same time lol.  That looks good.  But you forgot to take off the stuff on his beard that isn't beard colored. =P

I could not do this, but I do have taste and can see what you're doing.
skin tone flesh, keep, but add more shadow and highlights
Beard, another solid color other than brown, brown is boring, then add some light tones, hair is never one color, never

Flames, fire is all colors, change the flame colors back and forth between hot and cold, black to white, yellow to orange, red to pink and so on, the right mix will look more real and doctered aswell
Add some buttons and a little flare to the outfit, maybe a patch or 2, and 2 shades of grey work best, bottom one, top the other
Background should say FAME, which means people taking flash photography, FLASHES in the background.
And if you're real good, give him a grin, most are attracted to a smile, not a frown

I made this logo in Illustrator for Tim a little while back and now that his name has changed it seems appropriate to post it:

Fire added in Photoshop.
