Title: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Ddude The Insane on June 20, 2009, 03:34:25 pm Whoa....i read this story,it is kinda interesting:
Quote from: necn.com According to the Lego Company, children across the world spend 5 billion hours a year playing with Lego’s. Seven-year-old Quaid Guarino adds more than his share to that number. Quaid's Lego’s take up half of his room. So how many does he have? Quaid: "I’m guessing ten thousand or more maybe" Quaid pays for most of them himself, and he's a bargain hunter. Quaid: "I have my allowance and my dad says I can go on EBay. I buy them off of EBay" A few months ago Quaid was playing with his Lego’s when an idea hit him. Elizabeth Guarino--Quaid's mom: "I stopped doing what I was doing and he said come here mom...and I went over and looked at what he did...it was a wow" While his parents marveled at Quaid's creativity he went over and Googled Lego, and sent off an email. Quaid's idea got their attention. So what’s his idea. Quaid said, “I can't tell you...I'm under contract.” “Yes, he signed a contract, agreeing not to tell anyone except Lego about his idea. But he's seven, and I'm a mom who knows how to bribe.” "What if I give you ice cream? No, lots of candy...no....hook you up on a play date with a nice six-year-old girl? Still no" So much for that plan. Quaid is keeping his secret--even Lego doesn't know the full details yet of what this 7 year old mind has come up with. The company told Quaid's parents it is very rare for them to enter into product negotiations with a seven year old. Elizabeth: "we're really impressed a company like that would take the time to contact a seven year old boy, if it never turns into anything more...that company has made that child happy" Lego may not use Quaid's idea...but his parents think he's really onto something. Peter: "I think it's fascinating, he thought of a different way to play with Lego's, he completely stepped outside the box...I'm still stuck on the fact he Googled Lego!" Quaid is ready to present his idea to Lego, but the company's headquarters are in Denmark. Six hours ahead of Maine...which presents a small problem. "They can't get me because of my bedtime...I have to go to bed at 8" Luckily, summer vacation starts next week...along with negotiations. So what do you think this is all about? And i thought i was a lego diehard.....this kid is one big lego fan to have OVER 10 THOUSAND legos. Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Jade on June 20, 2009, 05:25:24 pm My brother has 2 humungo recyling bins full of lego's... Not to mention 4 cardboard boxes.
But, it makes me wonder, what could the kid have thought up that would have Lego so interested? Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on June 20, 2009, 06:01:14 pm It says a different way to PLAY with them... what could that be???
Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Trijhak on June 20, 2009, 06:11:00 pm To me, it sounds quite unfair for his own family not to know what he is doing. He is a 7-year old, after all.
But that's just me. Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Ddude The Insane on June 20, 2009, 06:30:53 pm It says a different way to PLAY with them... what could that be??? I know...i don't see how you can play with legos a different way....Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Jade on June 20, 2009, 06:31:45 pm Maybe he... stuck them to his wall or something? (really lame, I know)
Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on June 20, 2009, 06:38:42 pm THe more I think about it, that mother should be given some mommy lessons... a 7 year old on the computer googling unsupervised? Sending emails??
Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Ddude The Insane on June 20, 2009, 06:43:32 pm I know.....how busy can you be? And theoretically,he wouldn't have a laptop, and his internet time would be limited.
I wonder if this will go to forum news.....i doubt it. Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Jade on June 20, 2009, 06:50:55 pm And how did he know what the password was to get into the email account? Sounds suspicous to me...
Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on June 20, 2009, 06:53:04 pm It is starting to sound suspicious....
Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Ddude The Insane on June 20, 2009, 06:53:27 pm Yeah....but no one cares about that other than us 3, they just want to know what this kid is up to that got lego's attention.
Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: timposter on June 20, 2009, 08:04:57 pm Maybe the kid has his own email address?
Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: timposter on June 20, 2009, 08:13:11 pm Maybe he's rly mature and they trust him.
Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Ddude The Insane on June 20, 2009, 08:15:16 pm Maybe he's rly mature and they trust him. Possible....but somewhat unlikely, i think.Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Dudebot5000 on June 20, 2009, 08:17:56 pm Well, I hear that 4 year olds can use computers better than than their parents, so that doesn't really surprise me...
But the idea of LEGO signing a contract with a 7 year old... Now that's interesting... Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Maplen13 on June 20, 2009, 08:57:39 pm Well, I hear that 4 year olds can use computers better than than their parents, so that doesn't really surprise me... But the idea of LEGO signing a contract with a 7 year old... Now that's interesting... Oh yea, I remembered it like it was yesterday, I was four years old at that time, still unable to speak and I went to funschool.com and cartoonnetwork.com and I learned many stuff. And I was able at that time to count all the way to 100, learned some functions, and URL, my mom even told me that I was better than her in the internet. hehehe :D Good times, good times. Well under my observations, I concer that the child made an absolute grand contract with lego, and it seems quite ingenious from a 7 year old, but This might give Lego a boost from the public. I'mj going to stay tuned to this. Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Plotkin on June 20, 2009, 10:23:28 pm If hes talking 10,000 Legos, I guess it's really good for a 7 year old. I don't really know how many I had then, but I have way more now. And I wonder how it is so good that Lego would sign a contract
Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Saturn2.0 on June 20, 2009, 10:27:09 pm I say, is his great, great grandfather the inventor of LEGO X{D?
-That kid's parents must be real loose, not very protective of him :-\. Still, normally companies don't make contracts with children :o. Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Plotkin on June 20, 2009, 10:45:45 pm If his parents aren't very protective, why does he have a bedtime? And this is a company made for kids....
Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: lionytai on June 21, 2009, 07:26:12 am It says a different way to PLAY with them... what could that be??? That is a good point. Someone will find out soon, though.I guess it's like building real life stuff such as my imaginationing bicycle or desks or tables? Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on June 21, 2009, 09:13:12 am It's intriguing. And it seems newsworthy, so I'll toss it over to LN&C.
Title: Re: Lego is negotiating.......with a 7-year-old? Post by: Ddude The Insane on June 21, 2009, 09:15:15 am Soooo.....do i get rep for this? I mean,i don't mean to be pushy, but for most news stories, the provider gets rep...just askin'.
Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Obi on June 21, 2009, 09:45:19 am Who knows... (about the stuff) Some parents don't watch what their kids do... My friend (and his parents did NOT see him) played Grand Theft Auto in 1st grade... He told me about it...
EDit: And Wow, that's a lot of lego's... for a 7-year-old... I have lots and lots and lots and lots and lots... Probably about 35,000-50,000... Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: Kritzelei on June 21, 2009, 10:05:01 am I bet he sleeps in a bed made of LEGO, their computer is made of LEGO, and he's even made a version of windows Vista out of LEGO! But anyway, me and my brother have been playing with LEGO for years now and I'd say we have 10,000 bricks, never mind sets. A new way to play... is it a coincidence that that's the slogan for LEGO Games?
TBD Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old? Source: Darth Twilight Post by: abolute_Z3R0 on June 21, 2009, 11:12:49 am This kid goes to eBay, searches for LEGO sets under auction with little or no bids, makes a low bidding price, and gets an exotic or rare LEGO set. If he were to sell these again to people who were serious adult collectors, he could make about 5x as much money as well as be able to buy any LEGO sets he wanted.

I don't think lego games will be very good, they did not look that good in the lego mag. Title: Re: LEGO Is Negotiating.......With A 7-Year-Old?
