My LEGO Nexus Organization

Physics engine software player Havok has struck a ground-breaking deal to power the Lego Digital Designer download facility that will allow Lego enthusiasts to create custom-built Lego designs.

Fans of the iconic building bricks can make vehicles, buildings and robots from scratch, using the LEGO Digital Designer to choose size, colours and other design concepts for their creations. Users can add LEGO minifigures and finishing touches to their constructions and preview their finished products online.

Prior to purchasing their customized set at LegoFactory.com, users can custom design their own packaging. The Havok Physics software development kit (SDK) will be used to power realistic visual effects in all animations on the Lego Digital Designer download.

...So... it's getting more pieces and you can size them to your will?

Basically you can create your own pieces, instead of using the prefabricated pieces LEGO has already installed. And, you can create your own design on the box that the Lego ships in.

This does sound epic awesome though, but what would you expect from something named 'Havok'?(Same spelling too...)

Havok Physics is a physics engine developed by Irish company Havok. It is designed for computer and video games by allowing interaction between objects or other characters in real-time and by giving objects physics-based qualities in three dimensions. By using dynamical simulation, Havok allows for more lifelike worlds and animation, such as ragdoll physics or intelligence in massive falling objects. The company has also released a Havok Animation. Havok was purchased by Intel in 2007.

In 2008, Havok was honored at the 59th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards for advancing the development of physics engines in electronic entertainment.

After looking at Havok's projects, I feel confidant in saying LDD will be incorporated into LU. They are all about animation and movement. This is gonna be so kool...

Well, there were hints, but yeah, I'd think it will be. Especially with this.

I hope its going to be an in-game feature, instead of having it separate and you have to import it into the game.

It probably will, since then it'd also be easier to update it all with a patch.

@JJ-Me too. I need to get busy with LDD...I should download it to my laptop.

It won't work on my laptop... 64 bit systems + LDD= Crash.

Good thing I use XP. =P 32 Bit IIRC.

LDD is installed on my XP desktop, but I like using LDraw more.

How do you think it would do on an '09 Toshiba NB-205?

If its this year, its gonna work fine. LDraw is better though...

Did you also note that it was a four year contract with Havok? So MSRR may be right upon the fact this LDD will be incorperated into LU, since the animations of LDD, and then "Building" them will put the Havok Physics engine able to make them "animate" towards finished product.

Also Omega Blademan, the Havok Physics Engine SDK is downloaded with the LDD itself, so there won't be a needed upgrade of your computer, If you do have an intel processor, then your lucky since Havok as designed purposely for Intel Processor. And that's how I happened to Know about Havok with the Intel Partnership.

This will be great!!!!! LU IF be incorperated with the Havok Physics engine will BLOW AWEAY any competition and revolutionize LU itself.

I think it meant only the packaging, the models being sent there, not the uh... bricks or such things to be made customlly. But in all it doesn't require making a new custom made cast for the packaging the customer made. Well I think it is..

If you create a custom brick, it should say you would not be allowed to order it, but you could upload as a creation.

That should also happen for the 'unavailable' bricks.

I meant if my computer could handle the awesomeness of it, since I don't have that powerful of a computer.(Though, eventually I probably will be getting an 80 gig hard drive for a certain reason.) But that's interesting, and that means that if this is used with LU, then... ... What were the Sys Reqs for those games again..?

I agree on those.... But I prefer that you use an Intel core duo or i7 extreme even thought i7 is very expensive.

I'm not buying a new one, but I do need a new hard drive, and it's not because of my speed.

I saw something that said you can design the box graphics as well!

It said a $10 fee is required to download it now... and order your creations.

I think... and this is not good. LDD ws free before, so why the sudden change?

That said service charges for ordering the created sets. =P In fact, if you scroll to the right it even says that LDD is freeware. =P

Hopefully this has BIONICLE pieces in. There's pieces I don't have but it would be nice to use them.

And I also hope it doesn;t get annoying. (IE, when you're trying to place a brick on the bottom of the model and you;re viewing the top, it places it on the bottom instead. That is annoying.)
