Title: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Jade on August 21, 2009, 12:09:36 pm Physics engine software player Havok has struck a ground-breaking deal to power the Lego Digital Designer download facility that will allow Lego enthusiasts to create custom-built Lego designs.
Fans of the iconic building bricks can make vehicles, buildings and robots from scratch, using the LEGO Digital Designer to choose size, colours and other design concepts for their creations. Users can add LEGO minifigures and finishing touches to their constructions and preview their finished products online. Prior to purchasing their customized set at LegoFactory.com, users can custom design their own packaging. The Havok Physics software development kit (SDK) will be used to power realistic visual effects in all animations on the Lego Digital Designer download. Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Trijhak on August 21, 2009, 12:24:59 pm ...So... it's getting more pieces and you can size them to your will?
I don't really understand... Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Jade on August 21, 2009, 12:31:19 pm Basically you can create your own pieces, instead of using the prefabricated pieces LEGO has already installed. And, you can create your own design on the box that the Lego ships in.

Okay, now I want LDD to be also implemented into LU somehow too. LDD is getting its much needed upgrade... Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Saturn2.0 on August 21, 2009, 12:47:10 pm Oh, you can add colors to your own bricks, what about minifig faces and outfits?

Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Trijhak on August 21, 2009, 12:55:34 pm That's what I want to know, since I know what I'm going to build...
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Jade on August 21, 2009, 12:58:45 pm Sometime next month, if LEGO doesn't delay it.
Saturn, not sure about any of that, but I'm hoping they are going to do something about the minifigs... Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Ddude The Insane on August 21, 2009, 03:06:16 pm Ah, this will vastly improve LDD :)
*starts drawing LU battle mechs to use in my evil army* Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 21, 2009, 04:02:34 pm ... I'm helping out with this somehow? Cool. =P(Anyone brothers with me on MMSF3 will know what I mean by that. =P)
This does sound epic awesome though, but what would you expect from something named 'Havok'?(Same spelling too...) Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on August 21, 2009, 04:08:09 pm Havok Physics is a physics engine developed by Irish company Havok. It is designed for computer and video games by allowing interaction between objects or other characters in real-time and by giving objects physics-based qualities in three dimensions. By using dynamical simulation, Havok allows for more lifelike worlds and animation, such as ragdoll physics or intelligence in massive falling objects. The company has also released a Havok Animation. Havok was purchased by Intel in 2007.
In 2008, Havok was honored at the 59th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards for advancing the development of physics engines in electronic entertainment. http://www.havok.com/ Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 21, 2009, 04:10:19 pm ... Will this require another upgrade to my comp..?
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Jade on August 21, 2009, 04:15:56 pm Probably not...
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on August 21, 2009, 04:55:43 pm After looking at Havok's projects, I feel confidant in saying LDD will be incorporated into LU. They are all about animation and movement. This is gonna be so kool...
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 21, 2009, 05:00:33 pm Well, there were hints, but yeah, I'd think it will be. Especially with this.
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Jade on August 21, 2009, 05:06:13 pm I hope its going to be an in-game feature, instead of having it separate and you have to import it into the game.
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 21, 2009, 05:08:10 pm It probably will, since then it'd also be easier to update it all with a patch.
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Ddude The Insane on August 21, 2009, 05:09:07 pm @JJ-Me too. I need to get busy with LDD...I should download it to my laptop.
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Jade on August 21, 2009, 05:11:47 pm It won't work on my laptop... 64 bit systems + LDD= Crash.

Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: B~T on August 21, 2009, 05:33:49 pm Now I'm starting to feel bad about not being able to download LDD... -.-
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Jade on August 21, 2009, 05:34:25 pm http://www.ldraw.org/
LDraw is a CAD program. You can create 3D Lego images like this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7e/Lego_CAD_Racecar.JPG I would post the pic, but it swallowed the whole screen when I tried to post it. Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Ddude The Insane on August 21, 2009, 05:38:41 pm I think I'll just stick with LDD.
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: jamesster on August 21, 2009, 09:10:44 pm Ah, this will vastly improve LDD :) Heeeeeeeeeeeeeey, I was gonna do that!!! >:D I can't wait for the update!*starts drawing LU battle mechs to use in my evil army* Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Maplen13 on August 22, 2009, 02:55:11 am Physics engine software player Havok has struck a ground-breaking deal to power the Lego Digital Designer download facility that will allow Lego enthusiasts to create custom-built Lego designs. THEY ARE GOING TO PUT THE HAVOK PHYSICS SDK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!! I WANTED TO DOWNLOAD THAT SDK BEFORE BUT NEVER DOWNLOADED IT! I'VE SEEN IT IN ACTION BEFORE, AND IS VERY GREAT WHEN WITH INTEL PROCESSOR!!!! *Screams like a Fangirl* Did you also note that it was a four year contract with Havok? So MSRR may be right upon the fact this LDD will be incorperated into LU, since the animations of LDD, and then "Building" them will put the Havok Physics engine able to make them "animate" towards finished product. Also Omega Blademan, the Havok Physics Engine SDK is downloaded with the LDD itself, so there won't be a needed upgrade of your computer, If you do have an intel processor, then your lucky since Havok as designed purposely for Intel Processor. And that's how I happened to Know about Havok with the Intel Partnership. This will be great!!!!! LU IF be incorperated with the Havok Physics engine will BLOW AWEAY any competition and revolutionize LU itself. These games were incorperated with the Physics Engine: -Biokshock -Halo 2 -Halo 3 -Dead Rising -Happy Feet -Fable 2 -F.E.A.R -Destroy all Humans 2 Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Legodac on August 22, 2009, 06:01:55 am That's amazing Marijade, however I find the part about designing your own pieces a little hard to grasp. Maybe I'm reading it wrong but do all of you know what injection molding is. A mold is made of steel by a die maker, it's very large and very heavy, needing a crane to install them in the machine. The design and making of this mold is a very expensive process, one that would be impossible to pull off for just one persons model.
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Maplen13 on August 22, 2009, 06:38:44 am I think it meant only the packaging, the models being sent there, not the uh... bricks or such things to be made customlly. But in all it doesn't require making a new custom made cast for the packaging the customer made. Well I think it is..
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Trijhak on August 22, 2009, 07:29:03 am If you create a custom brick, it should say you would not be allowed to order it, but you could upload as a creation.
That should also happen for the 'unavailable' bricks. DirectX 9.0 or later (hate that program, btw) Usually 2gb ram? Maybe 8 gigs of memory... (hopefully less) Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Maplen13 on August 22, 2009, 10:33:30 am I agree on those.... But I prefer that you use an Intel core duo or i7 extreme even thought i7 is very expensive.
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 22, 2009, 10:34:47 am *Twitch twitch* I don't have 2 gig of RAM... Does that mean I'll need another upgrade? =/

I stand corrected, thanks Maple13, oh and Blade, you don't have to buy a new PC or laptop, perhaps get yourself what I have, a remote storage device that plugs into a usb port, mine is a 160 gig and it's where I store all my pictures, movies and Music. It greatly increases the speed of your PCTitle: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 22, 2009, 11:40:07 am I'm not buying a new one, but I do need a new hard drive, and it's not because of my speed.
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: guitaralex on August 22, 2009, 12:31:31 pm I would prefer if LDD was optional, because of my big problem with it :(
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Jade on August 22, 2009, 05:03:47 pm If its built into the game, you might not have an issue... it doesn't load on your computer, right?

Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Kritzelei on September 02, 2009, 11:04:20 am I saw something that said you can design the box graphics as well!
Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Trijhak on September 02, 2009, 11:34:04 am It said a $10 fee is required to download it now... and order your creations.
I think... and this is not good. LDD ws free before, so why the sudden change? Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on September 02, 2009, 11:48:42 am "Download FREE LEGO Digital Designer software and design the LEGO creation of your dreams!"

Title: Re: LDD Getting An Upgrade -- Source: Jedi Jade Post by: Trijhak on September 02, 2009, 12:10:08 pm Hopefully this has BIONICLE pieces in. There's pieces I don't have but it would be nice to use them.
And I also hope it doesn;t get annoying. (IE, when you're trying to place a brick on the bottom of the model and you;re viewing the top, it places it on the bottom instead. That is annoying.)
