Title: The 2009 Maverick Olympics
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on October 18, 2009, 04:59:17 pm
Today the 2009 Maverick Olympics opened up on MHOZ (http://s1.zetaboards.com/MHOZ/index/), which stands for Maverick Hang-Out Zone. The Maverick Olympics consist of events that people can participate in, like the Pixel Art event, or the 'Whodunnit?' event that'll start early Monday. The events are individual, as in there's no teams, and you must use only your original work for each event. You can do as many or as few events as you'd like. The entries are to be handed in before 9:30 PM GMT on Sunday October the 25th, and everyone can participate until then.

Now, MLNO is sponsoring the competition, which is why we have our new banner, and why I have my own new banner in my sig, both provided by (=Nemesis=). The last Maverick Olympics that happened last January didn't turn out very well, but hopefully this will turn out better than that time, and be a fun event that everyone will enjoy, as I feel it will be =)

Now, let the games begin!

Hello. I'd just like to say that I'm very proud to have MLNO sponsoring this event. I hope that those of you who participate will have a fantastic time.

I'd also like to apologise for a little mistake I made earlier in preparing the banner you can see at the moment on this site; I spelled it "OrganiSation", owing to my being English. It's not meant as an arrogant gesture or anything - I just forgot to Americanise the spelling. Or Americanize. Or whatever.

Anyway, thanks for reading this... please do come along and have a go at some of the events. We'd love to see you there.

Bye for now!

I missed it, and I also missed the missing 'i' until someone else pointed it out. =P  It's a cool banner and I was more focused on that than spelling haha.

Cool. But there's one thing I don't get- why are we "sponsoring" it? And what does it even mean to be sponsoring it?

Have you been to the MHOZ yet?? It's a great forum.

List of things I have to do:
-Finish two MOCs
-Do lots of organization gibberish
-Start on an animation sequence for a documentary
-Finish a story
-Do something

So I cannot participate...

Um, basically, the MLNO has its name all over the Olympics, which means advertising and whatnot which gets people to visit the MLNO and see if they like it, in return for which, the Olympics are promoted on the MLNO. Quite simple, really.

I'm an admin there. Mind showing us a screenshot or something so I can help with the problem, or should I assume you're using IE or your antivirus has a hyperactive imagination?

OK.... and you know this because...?

Title: Re: The 2009 Maverick Olympics

Because I logged on and I got linkted to an antivirus page and it said an attack on your computer was blocked,

I log off, and go to mlno for half an hour, I log back on to MHOZ and the same thing happened.

You might need something to block the advertising scripts. I had the same thing happen when I used Safari on my old PC.

You got linked to an antivirus page?

Show me the page.

I thought it was an ad so I just clicked the back button

Of course it's just an ad! And you should count yourself lucky if you didn't contract malware just falling for that old trick. Please check the actual facts before making the rather harmful accusation that the MHOZ was trying to give you a virus.

Whoa...that was a little harsh, Nemesis. But still, pretty much every ad you'll see on your computer can infect your computer. Heck, most of the ads at this site are doubleclick, which is NOT the type of ad you want to run into.

no one answered my question T_T

And why are they the "Olympics"?

Title: Re: The 2009 Maverick Olympics

Because they're a series of events that last a certain amount of time?

Hey nemesis! Guess what? Never has that happened before and now that I thought there was a virus from your website, and now I'm a big, stupid spaz on your records, huh?

Title: Re: The 2009 Maverick Olympics
Post by: (=Nemesis=) on October 23, 2009, 02:26:53 pm
No, that's not true.

The thing is, you immediately assumed that the MHOZ was to blame, didn't make sure, and then just stated it as fact for other people to read and believe.

I mean, what was I supposed to do, if not immediately set the record straight? It's my responsibility to make sure that incorrect and damaging information about the MHOZ doesn't spread like wildfire; if I hadn't, well, you can imagine for yourself.

I'm not an aggressor here. I'm defending the reputation of the MHOZ on behalf of its members; that's my job. Sorry.
