Title: The End of BIONICLE
Post by: Trijhak on November 24, 2009, 11:34:07 am
LEGO has reported to popular BIONICLE fansite BZPower that BIONICLE will indeed end in 2010. The BIONICLE Stars will be the six last sets and a new theme will be started in summer 010...

News article (http://bzpower.com/story.php?ID=4419)

It's true. BIONICLE ENDS. And will be replaced...

BIONICLE has gone on for 9 successful years now, and it only has one wave left. The End of BIONICLE.

D=< GRAAAAAH. WHY? WHY LEGO? *Shakes head in epic disappointment* Fail. FAIL. This had better be a joke...

If it came from TLG, I doubt it's a joke. They don't usually pull jokes.

At least I can save my money for this new theme that say will  be replacing it.

I'm still skeptical. But, it seems that the actual story isn't ending, which is good, because that means that if they epic fail in sales after winter '10, since we all know that even if BIONICLE does end(*Cough'03cough*), people would still buy the Stars, then they could just bring it back the next year. See, the thing is that while everyone disliked Exo-Force ending, that never was one of their highest selling themes. Like, Bionicle and Star Wars had priority. But now they're ending BIONICLE, which I think is their most successful series and line every and their highest selling theme currently, so this may actually not be a good decision. I mean, Bionicle was what got them back up in '01 and so, as Advance even said.

The only thing that could redeem this is if somehow this new theme is even more epic than Bionicle. But I highly doubt that's possible. I probably won't be buying any more sets after the Stars, if I even get to get those. *shakes head*

Story isn't ending. But the sets are. I think we should expect a lot of BIONICLE-like elements in the new theme. Here's hoping it has no connection with the normal BIONICLE Story... apart from being in the same universe. Bota Magna, with no connections to BIONICLE, maybe?

I don't know what to say...

I'll certainly miss the theme, but at least the story will still last for a little while.

I don't think this new theme will live up expectations though.

I doubt it'll even be that, from the way Greg's talking.

Why would Lego do this? I heard they had plans for 2011 sets... I hope it's almost exactly like BIONICLE this new theme, but a different story and different locations.

TBD: Same here.

After 010 I;m guessing that the BIONICLE Forum will be moved into LEGO... (here)

Now we need to wait for toyfair 010 to see the summer 010 line.

Not unless people stop posting about the story and such. The only reason Exo-Force is only a topic is because no-one posted in the old board for it.

The summer sets had better be awesome, I really wanted a fully yellow (Mata Nui was orangey yellow) set, the colour of Bitil. And I wanted a purple set as well. :P

Title: Re: The End of BIONICLE

There are NO BIONICLE SUMMER SETS. Haven't you read the article?

Title: Re: The End of BIONICLE
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on November 24, 2009, 12:40:02 pm
Yeah, not gonna happen. They tossed Purple like last year. >_>

KZ: He meant the new theme.

Title: Re: The End of BIONICLE
Post by: Kritzelei on November 24, 2009, 01:01:00 pm
Noo! Purple! Purple and yellow could have been the Lightning tribe! :D

Yeah, I meant the new theme, sorry I didn't point that out. Well, I guess this confirms Ben 10 isn't taking over from BIONICLE (it starts January I think).

It does say "There will be no more BIONICLE sets for the fore seeable future"... Perhaps it may come back under a different name a few years later?

Title: Re: The End of BIONICLE
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on November 24, 2009, 01:05:51 pm
They announced it last year, no more purple stuff at all, because they can't find a decent colour they can stick with. >_> Of course, that doesn't include Mini-figs, but still. >_>

Title: Re: The End of BIONICLE
Post by: Kritzelei on November 24, 2009, 01:14:39 pm
:( I am ashamed with LEGO. Purple is a cool colour!

But, BOT, this 'new range of buildable figures' doesn't sound to bad. As long as it's not like Knights Kingdom 2 (I mean the action figure Knights Kingdom by '2'. The original was just minifigs, now it is Castle.)

Title: Re: The End of BIONICLE
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on November 24, 2009, 01:19:51 pm
Most of us know what Knight's Kingdom 2 means, but yeah. But on the bright side, I think KK2 led to Exo-Force(It's joints were used in EF), so that's a good thing. ^^

Title: Re: The End of BIONICLE
Post by: Kritzelei on November 24, 2009, 01:25:29 pm
Oh yeah, sorry. :-[ Just thought there might be someone who didn't know what it was. The joints were the only plus points to KK2, they're in Power Miners, EF (like you say) Creator and Ben 10.

Title: Re: The End of BIONICLE
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on November 24, 2009, 01:41:18 pm
>< Of course they had to use those epic joints in that line... >_> I still think that was partly why Bionicle's now ending. >_>

Title: Re: The End of BIONICLE
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on November 24, 2009, 01:44:07 pm
Yes, yes, YES.

The summer sets will be based off Bionicle's system. =D

Quote from: GregF
And to Vorox Chief's point -- the summer 2010 line will be based on the same building platform as BIONICLE, so the end of BIONICLE will not mean no more new pieces you can use for BIONICLE MOCs.

=D Now all we need is the masks/helmets to stay, or at least that there are heads that are compatible with Bionicle...

Title: Re: The End of BIONICLE
Post by: Kritzelei on November 24, 2009, 01:47:51 pm
Yay! LEGO has saved us from the leaving of BIONICLE misery! :D More awesome helmets would be nice.

This has put a damper on my day. =/ Bionicle was my escape from have my Legos forcefully torn apart for pieces for my brother's MOCs. I hardly own a "actual Lego set" according to the MOC elitists at Brickfair. It's sad to hear that they'll leaving, even with the chance they might return. While I'm glad the story isn't ending and no one has been fired, I wish that'd we would still have sets to go with.

If it was Ehlek or Hahli Mahri, that was a known problem, due to a bad batch of the Limegreen pieces. None of my other sets have broken, unless I've MOCed with them a lot...

No it was the original Toa Gali #8533. She was blue.

Title: Re: The End of BIONICLE
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on November 24, 2009, 05:09:20 pm
... She...

And as my set, which was the exact same set, has been through a lot, like tons of MOCing and taking apart and putting it back together, it's possible that yours was just flawed or so, because if I could find all the pieces, I could probably put it all back together with cracks that are only there just from the sheer age of the set... =/

But that is weird that it broke though. =/ Especially since the Mata were some of the strongest sets. Only a few of mine have broken pieces, and those are only because of me using them a lot, like the green Mata foot I have from Lewa. =)

MsRR: Ah, okay, I see. Just thought you thought Gali was a guy. ;)
And yeah, if it was the socket, it could be too much pressure. I think I did that with Ehlek's pieces when I was MOCing or such, and I know I did it when I was trying to rebuild Jaller Mahri(RIP poor orange socket pieces... =/). It seems I don't know my own strength. xP

Title: Re: The End of BIONICLE

... This is a good idea on Lego's part, IMO. Even though the only Lego Sets I've bought in years has been Bionicle I find that the overall sales were dropping, and the originality of the sets was being dropped also. I hope the new sets are better than the newest sets.

I find it odd to keep the story alive though. The story is only really there because of the sets(but I guess it does need to be closed off and put to an end, so another year of story would be okay).

And if the new line of sets is the same style as Bionicle I'll just rename sets to be Bio characters.

*Epic cry* No....just no. THIS CAN NOT BE REAL. IT JUST CANNOT BE REAL.

I don't believe this. I've seen plenty of you-know-what in my life, and this is the you-know-whattiest of them all. BIONICLE IS NOT DYING. THIS IS NOT HAPPENING. THIS. IS. NOT. HAPPENING.

And BTW, that new line they mentioned is ben 10. They said it is from a third party. Cartoon Network is a third party. Ben 10 is going to have the same pieces as Bionicle.

So the Ben 10 universe is going to meet with the Bionicle Universe... O_o

The most failtastic idea from LEGO...

It better be BIONICLE renamed on a different planet if they choose to reintroduce he BIONICLE storyline...

Perhaps references to the past storylines...?

They look like a Knight's Kingdom/Galidor crossover. Only worse.

They CANNOT replace Bionicle. :'(

Though based on the wording the actual Bionicle replacement is not Ben 10.

Well the sets never got better past 2004 and the only recent good ones were Lewa and a very few select others... back when I was sooo into Bionicles was the Rahkshi and Toa Nuva, and when I was in 2nd grade it was the original Toa. Now I own most of my friend's collection of Bionicles including some semi-rare masks and things. Goodbye Bionicle!

Surprisingly, I'm kinda glad. They began ruining it when they made the Mahri, and it kept getting worse. There's a saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" that can apply to this.

Hopefully whatever they are planning to make won't be too terribly bad...
