Title: Doctor Who
Post by: Kritzelei on April 02, 2010, 08:02:36 am
I thought I'd remake this topic once more, as tomorrow (April 3rd/Easter Saturday)... Doctor Who Series 5 comes to the UK! ;D Or, if you live in America, you only have to wait till April 17th for it to come to your screens. ;) So, here you can discuss Time Lords and Tardises, Davros and Daleks, the Classic Series and the Smilers ("Oo! The Smilers, mustn't mention the Smilers." - Matt Smith)

So, would it be the same time as the US for Canada?

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Kritzelei on April 02, 2010, 08:56:16 am
If you get BBC America in Canada, yes, it will be the same time. :)
EDIT: Just checking BBC Canada website now, I didn't know you couldn't get BBC America in Canada.  :-\
EDIT 2: Yes, it's the same date but on SPACE, not BBC Canada. :)

How come in some places it's kreitzeli and others it tombomdoodle?

I'm not sure, the forum doesn't put it as Kritzelei all the time for some reason. Let's get BOT though. ;)

Mustn't've been here when that name was changed; I'll have to fix that later. =P

OT: Ah, cool, around what time is it?

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Kritzelei on April 02, 2010, 09:17:15 am
9ET/6PT I think. (I guess that's 9PM Eastern Time/6PM Pacific Time? I'm British, so I'll be surprised if I'm right) :)

A note for Australians: Doctor Who returns April 18th on ABC1.

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on April 02, 2010, 09:21:21 am
I know Pacific time is right, maybe. I thought it was only an hour difference, but that may be central time I'm thinking of. =P

And I think ET is EST/EDT, so I think you're right there too.

Title: Re: Doctor Who

Yeah, I'm not too good with time, so I haven't a clue why one's on later. :P

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Trijhak on April 02, 2010, 07:25:52 pm
Apparently, there are things called "Face tendrils' in the first episode...

BTW, has anyone seen the newest trailers? Cybermen are back.

And Steven Moffat said that no classicmonsters would be returning...

Daleks
Weeping Angels
Cybermen
Silurians

^They've been there previously...

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Jas765 on April 02, 2010, 07:37:18 pm
Yeah, no classic monsters... ::)
Still, can't complain.
Have you seen the new TARDIS interior?
http://doctorwhotv.co.uk/peek-inside-the-tardis-3266.htm
(MAJOR SPOILERS, IF THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT TO CALL IT)

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Trijhak on April 03, 2010, 06:58:29 am
Compared to the image I had previously it looks fantastic/Brilliant/Geronimo! Ignore the last word...

I can imagine someone falling off, though and causing trouble:

A dalek goes inside the TARDIS, surprising the Doctor.

Dalek: EXTERMINATE!
Companion: Ahh! *falls off into the semi-spherical holes*
*Doctor is exterminated*
*Doctor regenerates*

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Kritzelei on April 03, 2010, 08:14:11 am
The new TARDIS looks awesome. =D On Matt Smith actually said it has a jacuzzi in one of the rooms, but I think he was joking.  ;) But he said it has a library, which could be true.
@Jas: If Silurians aren't classic monsters, what are?

Also, in Episode 1, they seem to encounter the Face Tendril (it was listed as just one when I saw it) and Atraxi, galactic police...? Isn't that the Judoon's job?

Title: Re: Doctor Who

I think that one was sarcasm. =P

Wait; I meant the Jas comment, though the Jacuzzi thing is likely a joke too. =P

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Trijhak on April 03, 2010, 11:13:31 am
Silurians, Classic series enemies, back in Episodes 8 and 9 apparently.

daleks, back in Episode 3, Victory of the Daleks.

Cybermen, unknown.

Weeping angels, back in episodes 4 and 5, flesh and Stone and Time of angels.

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Kritzelei on April 03, 2010, 01:35:38 pm
Ah... The silurians have new faces and appearances though, and the Daleks Cybermen and Weeping Angels have been in the 00's series' before.

WOW! The Eleventh Hour is AMAZING! And Matt Smith is hilarious!

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Trijhak on April 03, 2010, 02:51:46 pm
I know it is.

I love the new more electronic opening and theme tune.

AND I WANT THAT FONT

PRISONER ZERO HAS ESCAPED, THE HUMAN RESIDENCE WILL BE INCINERATED

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Kritzelei on April 03, 2010, 03:01:55 pm
Same.

THE THEME TUNE IS AWESOME! =D I didn't think they'd change that actually, they kept it the same on the trailers. Probably just wanting to keep it a secret.

The Smilers though... they look so creepy... =/

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Trijhak on April 03, 2010, 03:59:09 pm
IMO Matt Smith sounded a bit too much like the Tenth Doctor at certain points.

Although...

THERE'S A CRACK IN YOUR WALL

The Atraxi... is a giant eye.

Did anyone see the zombie cyberman? Picking up its own head and then putting it on... missing an arm, too...

Also, anyone see the green Dalek with the England Flag where its name-thing should be?

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Jas765 on April 03, 2010, 05:25:07 pm
Yeah, I was being sarcastic about the 'no classic monsters' thing.
There's something about the new opening theme that I just don't like... I dunno, I guess it could have done without the trombone parts.
Also, Lightning? Where'd that come from?

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Trijhak on April 03, 2010, 06:55:07 pm
It makes the title screens more interesting IMO. Not to mention..

*SPOILERS*

According to Prisoner Zero, there are cracks throughout time and Space, so they could be cracks, not lightning.

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Kritzelei on April 06, 2010, 03:03:52 pm
Jas: I like the new theme tune, it's awesome, but I prefer last year's just slightly.

KZ: I quite like the bit where it drops down into the 'fire', although the vortex last year was quite cool.

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Trijhak on April 06, 2010, 03:08:10 pm
And this Saturday we get to see the Smilers!  ;D

And after, the Daleks return in Victory of the Daleks.

According to Doctor Who magazine 420, they say 'you'll be smirking at the title because you'll think it's not a victory. But they win'.

And after the daleks... The Weeping Angels are back... in a Two-Parter this time! ;D

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Kritzelei on April 06, 2010, 03:10:45 pm
The Smilers look like they're going to creep me out... :P

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Trijhak on April 06, 2010, 03:23:50 pm
So, for Series 5, we have these returning enemies:

Daleks
Weeping Angels
Silurians
Cybermen

I hope they do them creatively... the Daleks should win this time. I assume episode 3 is called Victory of the Daleks because it is that-and hopefully it will revive the Daleks so they won't need to go into a complicated explanation as to why they're still living.

Same with the Cybermen-although 1851 (or was it 1859) may not be the only place the Cybermen ended up after the void collapsed...

Weeping Angels and Silurians don't need explanations because for the WAs, we haven't seen much of them or know their origins, and for the Silurians, they haven't appeared in over 28 years, apparently.

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Kritzelei on April 06, 2010, 03:32:07 pm
I think we see the 'Lonely Assassin' (they may not all look like Angels) planet in this series, so we'll find out a bit more about them. The Silurians... they're Earth 'reptiles' anyhow.
"Whilst you've been drilling down... something else has been drilling up." Episode 8/9 (Presumably the Eleventh Doctor says this)

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Trijhak on April 06, 2010, 03:35:04 pm
Apparently, the episode 4 synopsis is that a Ship called the Byzantium, which contained the last of the Weeping Angels, crashed into a planet called 'Alfava Metraxis.'

Title: Re: Doctor Who

Wait, is that a video game... Based of the Eleventh Doctor? =O

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Kritzelei on April 18, 2010, 07:44:02 am
Yep, there's going to be four 'episodes' of the games. :)

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Trijhak on April 18, 2010, 10:04:21 am
And the first one has the NEW AWESOME DALEKS. Or the red one. Whatever, I absolutely loved Victory of the Daleks. Lots of twists and turns, Mark Gatiss is nearly as good as Steven Moffat IMO.

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Kritzelei on April 18, 2010, 10:13:52 am
Yeah, he did an awesome script. :) I'm guessing when Amy asked "Ever fancied someone you shouldn't?" She was expecting her name. :D

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Trijhak on April 18, 2010, 10:16:27 am
"Who the heck has a name like Dora Bella?" XD

I'm glad those Daleks didn't die... and this time, it looks their exterminator beams don't just kill... they seem to disintegrate.
I'm guessing that the stuff they were using for the new 5 daleks was an old blueprint for older Supreme Daleks... explaining why they are bigger with better weapons.

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Kritzelei on April 18, 2010, 10:27:31 am
Yeah, although under the light of the ship the red Dalek looked orange. It looked a bit too much like the orange Dalek (ORANGE! ;D ) but as I say, probably just the lighting. I would like a non-camoflauge green Dalek as well. :)

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Trijhak on April 18, 2010, 10:31:22 am
Perhaps when we next see them in an episode (most likely in series 6 or 7) they'll have more daleks, like 8-10 with the 5 and then a green dalek, a brown dalek, a silver dalek, a gold dalek and maybe even a 2005- 17th April 2010 Dalek.

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Kritzelei on April 18, 2010, 11:17:09 am
That would be cool. :) I wish they'd make the crack in time a bit harder to spot, rather than having it obviously on the side of Starship UK and on the wall behind the Tardis. :P I'm wondering what the Pandorica is now... maybe they're leading us on a false trail, perhaps the crack isn't very important to the end of series 5... I don't know...

Title: Re: Doctor Who

Yeah; Each 'episode' of the adventure games will be free to download off the doctor who website =D

Title: Re: Doctor Who

*Raises eyebrow* Definitely wanna see how they handle this for other countries, if at all... People in other countries can't watch stuff on the site; correct?

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Trijhak on April 22, 2010, 04:14:50 pm
The first one is

"City of the Daleks'

They will also count as four 'extra episodes', making series 5 have not 13, but 17 episodes.

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on April 22, 2010, 04:19:58 pm
That seems interesting. Where would they take place in the season timeline then? Aside from obviously before the final epis. =P

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Trijhak on April 25, 2010, 04:55:44 am
Okay, the last episode had me shivering.

I don't think I can go into a dark cave with lots of statues anymore... A stone statue defence mechanism amongst stone statues... Perfect hiding place.... for a weeping Angel.

Disfigured weeping angels woken up by radiation... from a crashed ship... The Byzantium. (remember on Silence in the Library/forest of the dead where River mentions something about a 'crash of the Byzantium')

Title: Re: Doctor Who

While like the fourth or fifth just aired in the UK. We in NA are a little behind on them. =P

But The Beast Below was pretty good; not as many epic awesome quotes, but I don't mind; I mean The Doctor had just finished regenerating, so... =P

*^time zones cough cough (you didn't hear "I'm the bloody queen, mate"?!*

The Time of Angels (4/13)... now for Flesh and Stone, the second part...  5/13.

The Time of Angels-certainly the best episode so far.

In order of greatness:
1. The Time of Angels
2. The Eleventh Hour
3. Victory of the Daleks
4. The Beast Below

Another brilliant episode...

Although what the heck was Amy trying to do the Doctor at the end... O_o

Also:

Crack+Someone=that someone vanishing from time and existence

Therefore, there must have been a crack where the Cybermen CyberKing fell!

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on May 02, 2010, 08:08:12 am
I haven't seen it yet, so I don't know what you mean. =P

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Kritzelei on May 02, 2010, 09:45:33 am
I wasn't sure what she was trying to do either. :P We'll find out later on in the series though, it seems the episodes this series are solving a lot of mysteries...

... KZ, you're clever. :) That's got to be why no-one remembered the Cyber King... Wait, a vortex appeared which he sent the Cyber King through. :P (I didn't like that episode, the Cyber King ruined it).

Title: Re: Doctor Who
Post by: Trijhak on May 02, 2010, 10:11:34 am
No, pretty sure it went into a vortex, then hit a crack.

And anything that goes into the crack is erased from time and existence... but is stuck in the Pandorica, and comes out of it... whenever it opens.

Title: Re: Doctor Who

Let's Kill Hitler airs this saturday. Finally the second part of Series 6 comes.

And after that, Night Terrors. And after that, The Girl Who Waited. And after that, Closing Time. And the finale... to be titled.

Nice job replying to a year-old post.

For the record, and this is to everyone...

The name of the show is Doctor Who, not Dr. Who, Doctor Who. Dr. Who refers to two 1960s movies based on Doctor Who.

Title: Re: Doctor Who

Glad to be of Necro-service! -)

Sorry about the Dr. reference...I didn't know.

I once had a discussion with some fans of Star Trek.  I referred to myself as a Trekkie and was loudly denounced for using that term.  I should have used the word Trekker according to the denouncers.  It turns out that shortly after Trekkie was introduced into the world media in late 1969, it was associated with the word Hippie.  So the science fiction fans started using other names for themselves and avoided Trekkie.  Then the resurrection of the Star Trek TV programs started and the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" started using the term Trekker.

These days, I just call myself a Geek.  It covers so many more genres and interests!

How are there no new posts in this topic?

Summarising thoughts: Series 7 was okay, could have explored the arc more, Day of the Doctor was fantastic as was Night, Time was okayish considering it had a lot to live up coming right after Day.

Title: Re: Doctor Who

Now I only hope the rumours of the first episode of the next season being an easter special if they get it completed quick enough are true. It'll be long wait otherwise.

Moffat says he'll be like Tom Baker, which is good IMO. I like Tom Baker.

Also, there are literally hundreds of DW audios. I think there might actually be more audios than there are televised serials/stories. (not counting single episodes that make them up, then it doesn't even come close)
