Title: The Garbage Patch, a message for garbage disposal(Earth Celebration) Post by: Maplen13 on April 14, 2010, 01:38:54 am As you know, we humans make a lot of garbage, and for 7 billion people in this planet, that's alot of garbage. And where do we put it? We can't really put it in land can't we? So what we do is in the only thing that covers this blue planet... the oceans that cover 70% of this planet. And see how the garbage from thousands of miles away make an impact.

Funny how all the garbage is plastic? Title: Re: The Garbage Patch, a message for garbage disposal(Earth Celebration) Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on April 14, 2010, 09:34:34 pm In Oregon, we recycle plastics. Even the bags, tho I use reusable fabric bags for everything.
It is amazing to me when I see people toss recyclable items into the trash. How ever, once I tell them how much a fine is, they listen until I'm no longer around. =P
Title: Re: The Garbage Patch, a message for garbage disposal(Earth Celebration) Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on April 14, 2010, 09:55:45 pm When someone litters near me, I pick it up and loudly say.. "excuse me sir.. you dropped this"
Title: Re: The Garbage Patch, a message for garbage disposal(Earth Celebration) Post by: Mahri828 on April 15, 2010, 10:14:18 am Lol. That reminds me, at my last home meet in 2009 last year, I saw a lady toss her lit cigarette out her window, and then get out of her car. So I said, "Excuse me, but could you pick that up?", and her reply was a very firm, "No". So then I staged a very loud conversation with someone else who happened to be standing there about the $1250 fine for littering cigarretes. By the time I left, the cigarette was gone, and a very red faced lady was leaving rather quickly. =P

When we all come together, is when things will change and not before. _PERIOD, end of story. Title: Re: The Garbage Patch, a message for garbage disposal(Earth Celebration) Post by: Teddy3333 on April 18, 2010, 10:38:30 pm By living frugal lives, you can lessen your impact.

Title: Re: The Garbage Patch, a message for garbage disposal(Earth Celebration) Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on April 22, 2010, 05:46:09 am The three main principles of trash reduction are Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
To reduce, buy things with less packaging, and always shop with reusable bags, use steel water bottle instead of plastic ones, or filter your water at home. Reusing can be as simple as using the backs of printed pages for scrap paper and lists, etc. Recycling is as simple as putting recyclable items in the right place, which is NOT the trash. :) If we all try to do all three as much as possible, and ask our family and friends to do the same, we can really have an IMPACT! |
