Title: New Forum Launched!
Post by: d.j.m.2 on April 28, 2010, 01:03:03 pm
EDIT: WE ARE LIVE NOW! CLICK HERE (http://buvee.invisionzone.com)!

Hello, some of you may know me from LUOrg. It's a small forum with some amazing staff, including Tombomdoodle, Walter313, and Designerdude101.  ;D We are thrilled to announce a brand new project that has taken a massive chunk out of all our lives. I'm pretty sure the rules are that your not supposed to advertise MLN fan sites, but this is a LEGO fan site. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Note: Buvee is a made-up word, derived from the Latin "buvet", meaning build. Click here (http://buvee.invisionzone.com/) and register now! We are Now LIVE.

Thanks, and happy posting! :D

Latin for build eh, does this mean you're gonna try and teach me something? Sounds cool, I'll check it out.

Hey Jas, how's it Goin' eh?  :)

May I also add d.j.m.2 that you also may be missing out out on a good thing here, All the best Brickers are here and die-hard aswell.

There are many who have come to be close friends, a network of friends called MLNO.

Most of us will check out your new ideas, but remember, most of the best online friendships about Lego where formed here at MLNO.

We all look forward to hearing from you again, so post a few more, and talk to us, you'll discover the backbone of Lego People.

41 hours to go eh, sounds like a build forum, cool.

Were extreemly excited about this. Our "business" model is a little different than MLNOs, we actually pay for our software "skeleton" and make our own money from ads. This way, as we grow, we can have giveaways an contests and such. We are still a non-profit, but it's nice to know as we grow we ca build out and upgrade.

Plus it looks pretty bloomin' awesome.

EDIT:BTW, our staff core is set up so that the thing that happened to MLNTeam can't happen to us. Don't believe me? Read this.  (http://lu.smfforfree4.com/index.php/topic,611.0.html)We are also built so staff can have no question as to how we do things.

Thanks Skye!  ;D At the moment I'm trying to figure out how to make the portal the homepage, you have to sign up somewhere else to find out though. :-\ It's not like SMF see. :P

Yea but you don't have to make hacks, plug-ins or work-arounds either; which is somewhat of an everyday thing w/ SMF.

If you have a way to contact Lucio (Kit), he might be able to tell you how to do it. He created his own forum some time ago.

Kit was actually offered a staff position two months ago. He declined. So I don't know. But this software is not one used very often given that it costs money and therefore is a bit of a risk to pay off.

Did you have some arguments with Kit whilst I was inactive, or was that something else?

That's not all that uncommon then; BZP actually uses it for their forum type. It's a pretty nice forum type, but is a little complex at times.

Are you hosting this yourself?

*Coming back from inactivity*

Mhm, quite an interesting forum, I like the structure and design of the forum, and I do indeed love the preamble, and the constituition, with the freedom of debates, it is quite nice to hear organization and control of such a highly motivated forum, and I might add quite strategic to show that someone is knowing how to take some control, and have for any nuisance, even if coming from a moderator or even an admin. I really do feel that this forum made will be a very nice and excellent move forward here.

However, I do express many questions about this, and very intentionally even calling my depature in MLNO, I feel like this would be a very nice restart, and I have to say impressive work with a logo, preamble, constituion, and the forum itself also having some kind of protocol when someone is being inactive and deleting. I still want to ask some questions about amendments to the constitution and the very safety of the forum. The protocols when some hacking or very much cordinative "attack" to a forum, what sort of protocols would be in place, what can happen, and also this one is important for me:

How can this forum be able to help and provide its members of the safety and happiness in this forum, or a stable community, how fun, and how this community extends, makes projects, and makes extensions to itself and becoming a growing healthy forum. Exactly how and more importantly, will that administration be able to conduct such things. I think we can assume that this forum promotes debates, but also can we have contests cordinated with events, can we propose new events any month, or anything in between. Can we institute awards, badges, or any system to ensure some kind of "Identity" to any member of the community.

Mhm... 48 minutes... Well, I hope this forum would be a success, but still something I want to ask, this to the administrators and founders, How will buvee be different, and much of a successor than MLNO, will it ever be? What differences and similiarties? Strengths and Weaknesses? And how can you avoid the weaknesses, or can you? What would also be your opinion on Buvee's future?

Do they use an older version? Because theirs looks older than our version.

No, I don't think so.

@kritz: no, he just declined, that's all. He's getting busy, and on buzz he posted he'd be withdrawing from all forums and buzz. So... That's all, I guess.

@thedoctor: no, IP is hosting it. And it may not be uncommon for a bussiness, but where just a bunch of teens. It's a big risk.

TBD: Don't think so; it may just be the skin; which is the only one that doesn't glitch up some way apparently. xP

DJM: Ah, okay. Do they allow other things hosted in addition to that?

You mean a self-hosted licence? yes, they do have that. You can see their packages here. (http://www.invisionpower.com/products/)

Note: I'm not advertising for them, it's just that you asked, so I answered. :P

No, I mean can you say, host a web page in addition to the forum. =P

What differences and similiarties? Strengths and Weaknesses? And how can you avoid the weaknesses, or can you? What would also be your opinion on Buvee's future?

I'll let DJ answer the first two, not sure if I can answer them.
3) Yes, we do expect to be holding contests, some of which may differ quite a bit from MLNO's contests (still keeping MotM though). We will hold events, almost certainly.
4) We have awards, with rep and "likes" on posts, which help you to gain rep. We can also give a member special titles (I'll look into badges).
5) Buvee, although it is mostly LEGO based, is the successor of LUO. Therefore we will focus on LEGO Universe very much, as we already have an RPG "Faction Wars" set up and ready to go based on the areas in LEGO Universe. We also have blogs and a gallery built in. Strengths? We run on a server which seems to offer more flexibility on the design of the forum. We have an amazing chat system, way better than the ones we've had at LUO. The rich text option in your profile allows you to view posts and PMs without, what can often be complicated, BBCode. So you basically preview the post without pressing preview. Weaknesses? I'll be honest, paying is a bit of a pain (but Walt, who pays, gets the money back via Google Ads, whom we are asking to view the forum and try and get some ads up).
6) My opinion on Buvee's future... well I hope it will become a popular success. We have considered later on when Buvee gets running fully using some ad money to provide prizes (like e-vouchers for example) which will be a good point of the forum, but that's quite a while off yet. I estimate by the end of two months we might have approx... 50 members? Possibly slowing down slightly to 100 as we progress through the year, but when LU comes out, we should have another burst of members hopefully. We have already advertised at LUO and are considering at some other sites we know off/are affiliated with.

Hmm. If you set it to say /forum somehow, would that work a little better? And have the web page at the old one? I think that's how BZP's got theirs set up...

Title: Re: New Forum Launched!

Hmm... Perhaps we will do something like that ultimately. Right now, though, we don't want to wreck it the day before launch.

It's a lot different to SMF of course, but luckily if you do get stuck you can always call for one of the IP technicians to come and sort something out for you. :)
Thanks to everyone who's joined so far, and for all the positive comments you've made! ;D
