Title: What is best to you, about LU?
Post by: Legodac on May 15, 2011, 11:39:33 pm
Well I'm so glad we got so many responces in our LU welcome topic, makes me feel really great when people share their passions with one another.
So on that note, let's take the Nex step together shall we.

I think we could all benefit from each others favourite aspect of play in Lego Universe, and don't be shy, tell us why.

Is it buiding with identity, or is it sharing in the building? I for one really want to hear all that you love about the Universe.

btw, anyone remember this?

Well you ask for it. Here's everything I never said in the old forum and few people know.

Regarding the building aspect:
Imagine yourself in a partitioned room filled with lego builders and of course someone needs a particular brick to keep building. They could go home and tear something down, or wait until the store opens, etc., but instead they shout out "Hey Legodac! You got a 1x4x6 door frame and a 1x4x6 glass door for it? I'll trade you or pay you for it." and you pull the parts with joy to be able to help someone out and go on building, "How much do I owe you?" and you reply "Nothing. Just keep me in mind if I need something and do the same for someone else works for me." - "Thanks Legodac."

Well it's like that in LU also: Suddenly your chat indicator starts blinking and a friend who sees that you're on your property asks if you have a rare STOCK FISH brick. To his amazement you do and he's happy as a lark. You ask him to  look in his backpack and see if he has a rare TECHNIC DRAGON WING with 2 pins. He has one and mails it to you and there's a mailbox on each property so you don't even have to go anywhere to get it. BUT you don't know that your brick buddy just put out the word to a few of his friends and now you get this rare brick from someone who has just become one of your new BBs.

Regarding game play:
Sometimes you just want to run around and knock off small achievements that are not really conducive to teamwork and other times there are feats you can't do without help. It's those times when you need help that all these former legouni.com folks know who to call on. There are 'friends' and there are your Uni friends. Who ya gonna call?

For me personally I'm an old man with leukemia. I had very little energy or stamina when I started chemo last September. I had played during beta and my wife bought me the game on pre-order. I later developed a small heart anomaly that has me taking shots everyday and using oxygen until the Docs can fix me up. So i play and build with my young friends who teach me a bit each day about how to have fun and lighten up. I've done more digital building in LU than I ever could with real bricks. Now my chemo is over and i'm getting a tiny bit stronger each day. I'm just waiting to hear what the Docs have to say. In the mean time what started out to be something to keep me busy and my mind off my physical world, has now turned into an expanded circle of real people playing together in an imaginary world and connecting in live forums.

Does that answer your question at all?

P.S. I want to build your lego scene in LU. Did you see my LU Jungle Tree House?

P.S.S. Those palm segments make great snakes since you can bend them sort of.

Got to love your spirit, Intrepid. You're an inspiration  :D

Anyway, to answer the question:

My love for LU derives from a few corners of my persona. Firstly, I love video games. I am so passionate about games that I made sure I got a job in the games industry about 6 or 7 years ago and I've never wanted to leave. This is sort of a given, though, as is the fact that I really enjoy MMOGs. I find a lot of pleasure in making friends in MMOGs, sustaining the momentum of a friendhsip which builds up over a virtual space where you share experiences you'd never have in real life. Of course, real life friends are important (some would argue more so) but it's a different kettle of fish. There's very little need to get to know someone in an MMOG, before you become friends with them, but it's that getting to know people when there's so little need that makes it all the more special to me.

Of course, it's main draw is that it's LEGO! I absolutely love LEGO. I always have and at this rate I always will. As I've grown older I've found new meaning to it; where I used to have fun trying to stack as many bricks on top of each other as possible before the tower fell, I now relish in creating working mechanisms and finding art in the bricks. This extends very nicely into LU (albeit somewhat less lenient than real LEGO) and I just love that I can build my real life models in LU and my LU models in real life. It's the only game I've played which properly crosses the game/reality boundary.

I love the combat mechanics. I was tired of targeting an enemy and click buttons to queue up attacks whose likelihood to hit was based on an invisible dice roll. I get so much out of being able to dodge attacks and rush in for a sneaky wallop in the back of a pirate's head. It's just so much more engaging.

I too played the beta and pre-ordered. I couldn't help myself. It's pretty much my ideal game. I can battle, build and race all from one title and despite running out of things to do I rarely find myself bored. Most of the time I have to tear myself away - unlike other MMOGs I've played, that's not because of social expectations ("But the guild is doing a Trial and if you don't join in you'll be left behind") but because I enjoy myself so much in that world. Of course, if my friends need help or just want some company then that's all good, I'm happy to stick around, but that's different.

I could go on and on but I think I'm starting to ramble a bit. At the same time I'm sure I've left out a lot. Let's leave it at that, though, eh?  ;D

I could not possibly have hoped for a better responce to a simple question.

To say these two gentleman are passionate, is an under statement of epic pro portions.
)sorry if my style is not what you are used to(, I am manic depressive and a little crazy too, so the doctors say. God bless the ramblers, for in the onslaught of thought and words, the truth will be discovered.

Yes, we all agree, Lego in one form or another is what brings us here together, talking about a little brick that some have elevated to greatness. So when we get building, and we share that build, we feel nothing less then great because there are other brickers out there watching to see your nex move and saying how much they love your creation.

That's what I call cool.  8)

My heart is always going out to those of you I have not met yet, my heart also belongs to those I have.

Pain of life is a common fact, but I think that sharing our Love of Lego for one another will become a Universal truth.

A very special thanks to Intrepid and to iratecorpse, man, do I wanna know you guys!!! :)
