Title: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 02, 2011, 04:54:02 pm
Maybe a general music topic will help; did in the past. =P

Discuss any and all kinds of music here.

Okay, I'll start off...
My favorite band is Rage Against the Machine, hands down. You know them? (they are a rap/hip hop/rock group from the 90's who were anti-war and commonly sung about politics)

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 02, 2011, 05:00:17 pm
I've heard of them, I had a song from the Matrix Soundtrack, but I'm not sure if they're the band that I've recently heard.

They're not the same as 'Rage Against', are they? If they are, then I've heard a song by them, it's on a game I recently got. Otherwise, I haven't heard anything by them in a while now, because I lost the one song when I edited up one of my MP3 Players, and forgot to save it. >>; I can get it again, but the point is it's not easily accessed right now. =P

@Blade: I do not believe there is such a band called Rage Against, infact, when I wiki'd it the result was a re-direct to Rage Against the Machine's page.
There is a band called Rise Against though (Rise Against is one of my all time favorite bands).

Oh; maybe I'm mistaking Rise Against for Rage Against The Machine... Did Rise Against have a song in NHL 2k11?

Title: Re: Music
Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on July 02, 2011, 05:45:58 pm
I remember Rage Against the Machine.. Zack de la Rocha,Tim Commerford,Brad Wilk and Tom Morello, from So Cal.. LA perhaps??

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Darth Rexus on July 04, 2011, 02:06:19 pm
@Blade: Yes they do, Long Forgotten Sons, one of my favorite Rise Against songs of all time.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 04, 2011, 02:08:04 pm
Ah, alright then, sorry for the mix-up then. =P

That game's got a very good soundtrack, if anyone's played it, or heard of it's soundtrack. =)

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Darth Rexus on July 04, 2011, 02:10:51 pm
I know two of the song from the soundtrack (Kryptonite and Long Forgotten Sons)

Title: Re: Music
Post by: KnownandUnknown on July 04, 2011, 02:12:18 pm
Kryptonite is good...

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 04, 2011, 02:13:54 pm
Kryptonite is very good. =) At first I didn't realize it was an old song, until I tried to find out what CD it was on. =P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Darth Rexus on July 04, 2011, 02:15:20 pm
Kryptonite is from 2000, you sure we're talking about the same song? :P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 04, 2011, 02:17:31 pm
It is from 2000; that's why I said it was an old song. =P It's been 11 years since it was released. ;)

What I meant was, I thought it was a recent song, of one of 3 Doors Down's newer CDs. =P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Darth Rexus on July 04, 2011, 02:19:12 pm
Oh lol.
Old songs for me means 1928 or whatever.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 04, 2011, 02:28:07 pm
Ah, I see then. =P I should've said 'older song from them'. =P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Darth Rexus on July 04, 2011, 02:31:46 pm
Lol, I'm not really sure what their older songs are due to me only knowing one of their songs.
I'm starting to listen to Rise Against now because of this thread.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 04, 2011, 02:35:37 pm
I've only heard that song, myself. =P But it's a very good song. =)

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Mahri828 on July 04, 2011, 02:38:17 pm
I've listened to Rise Against occasionaly. I like Breaking Benjamin better though.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Darth Rexus on July 04, 2011, 02:39:11 pm
Whereabouts Unknown is another great song by the same band.
I'm gonna listen to other 3 Doors Down songs, wondering if they are as good as Kryptonite.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Mahri828 on July 04, 2011, 02:43:50 pm
Listen to Here Without You, that one's really good. So is Better Life.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 04, 2011, 02:44:46 pm
I've been listening to Daughtry again. Very good band. =)

Title: Re: Music

Never heard of them. You ever listen to Matchbox 20?

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 04, 2011, 02:54:58 pm
I've heard of them, but I don't think I've heard any of their songs, unfortunately.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Mahri828 on July 04, 2011, 02:56:13 pm
You should listen to either Shame or Real World or 3 Am by them; those are probably their best songs.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 04, 2011, 02:59:28 pm
I'll try to listen to them sometime then. =)

Title: Re: Music

Title: Re: Music
Post by: KnownandUnknown on July 04, 2011, 03:14:12 pm
Of course!..No, but it's probably awesome if you think it is :)
*Writes down Iris on invisible to-do list*

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 04, 2011, 03:18:37 pm
Ah, I see. =P

I'll give you two songs that you should listen to(Mostly just so you get the right Iris): In Spite(That's the only part of the title. If you see something else, it's not the right song.), and 'When I'm Not Around'.

If you're using videos to listen to it, and you see what looks like album art that says 'iris' and 'Awakening', then you've got the right Iris. =)

Or, I could try to find it and link it, if you want, and if it'd be easier. I'm not sure. =P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Mahri828 on July 04, 2011, 03:19:21 pm
Listen to "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence. That's a really good song. I love the start.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 04, 2011, 03:20:23 pm
That is an awesome song, yes. =O Fits the 2008 Bionicle storyline, too. =P

Iris is an awesome band. =D

Listening to In Spite right now... so far good, but diferent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jejmLcCR0U (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jejmLcCR0U)
EDIT: I like it overall, to say it in simple terms
Here is When I'm not around http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDVOZaAFn9M (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDVOZaAFn9M)

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 04, 2011, 04:05:22 pm
Yep, that's it. =D

It is a different style of music(They're classified as Synthpop); but they're a very good band.

I tried to play In Spite on my Keyboard; and while I mostly succeeded; I accidentally got it stuck in my head for the week after. xP

/EDIT: Taylor is awesome. =D

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Mahri828 on July 04, 2011, 04:05:46 pm
Yep, must have. =P You know of Plain White T's?

And R8, Bad romance is okay, and some of Taylor Swift is good. And I think you just like listening to female voices more than male because they're female. =P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 04, 2011, 04:34:04 pm
I think I've heard of them, but haven't heard any of their songs. =P

Right now I am into Slipknot.
People who listen to them get different feelings about the music, love it or hate it really.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: KnownandUnknown on July 04, 2011, 04:55:12 pm
In one post I'll post bands I like:
Rage Against the Machine\
Guns N' Roses
Aerosmith (older music, newer stuff isn't as good)
Blur
Raconteurs

Among others in which I have only heard a few songs but liked them anyway.

You're welcome. =) I really like that band, so I try to mention them when I can. =)

They've got some other good songs, as well. =) Their latest album likely won't be for everyone, but I like it. =P It's got a different feel from Awakening. ;)

Yeah, I think I've heard at least one song by Train. =P Can't think of the name, but it's the one they always play. I can think of the opening(Nearly posted it, but it doesn't sound as good in text form. =P); but nothing else. =/

Title: Re: Music

Have you listened to U2?

Title: Re: Music

Title: Re: Music

You've never heard of U2? D=

And as for your question, no.

Title: Re: Music

Hmmm... Billy Joel or Bon Jovi?

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 06, 2011, 02:22:32 pm
I've heard some songs by Bon Jovi, and I've heard of Billy Joel, but you'd have to name off some songs, as I haven't heard them all. =P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Mahri828 on July 06, 2011, 02:25:14 pm
Bon Jovi: It's My Life, We Weren't Born to Follow, Livin' on a Prayer

Billy Joel: Pressure, Uptown Girl, We Didn't Start the Fire, Entertainer, Piano Man

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 06, 2011, 02:30:04 pm
I've heard at least Living on a Prayer. =P

Title: Re: Music

Yeah, the songs I put down are just the ones that I think are the best.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: CheshireCat150 on July 12, 2011, 05:18:02 pm
Does anyone here like Coldplay? Their songs are fun to sing along with. A few of my favorites are: Every Teardrop is a Waterfall, X&Y, Viva La Vida, and Life in Technicolor ii. Youtube them if you're interested.  ;)

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 12, 2011, 05:21:23 pm
Is Vida La Vida the song you can pretty much tell is Coldplay, even if you've never heard of them before, nor any of their songs? I can't remember the name. >_^

I like that song that I'm referring to though. =P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: CheshireCat150 on July 12, 2011, 05:25:21 pm
Hmm... I don't know. The singer used to rule to world.  ;)

Title: Re: Music

If Viva La Vida is about the king and such, then that's what I'm referring to. =P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: CheshireCat150 on July 12, 2011, 05:33:25 pm
Indeed, it is one of Coldplay's more popular songs. What genre of music do you like?

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 12, 2011, 05:38:52 pm
I've been getting into Rock more and more recently, though I also like Synthpop, Alt Rock, and Country.(Country was my original favourite Genre; but I've been listening to Rock stuff more. =P)

Title: Re: Music
Post by: CheshireCat150 on July 12, 2011, 06:04:03 pm
Rock is good if I need a change in my day, but usually I just stick with alt rock. Slow, cool songs are my thing. What is your favorite band?

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 12, 2011, 06:10:16 pm
I have a few favourite bands. =P One of them is Iris; a Synthpop band. Daughtry is pretty good as well; and of course U2... If you can tell, my favourite bands range different genres. =P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: CheshireCat150 on July 12, 2011, 06:13:44 pm
I like U2, but the only song of theirs that I own is Beautiful Day. What are some of U2's other songs you like?

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 12, 2011, 06:25:18 pm
Beautiful Day is very good(And is quoted in Raks' sig. =P)...

As for other songs; some off their most recent CD(last i checked) are good; like Get On Your Boots and I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight; and their older songs are good too, like Vertigo, 40, and some of their other songs I know of, but can't remember.

We need Raks to see this topic, he'd have some recommendations for you. =P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: CheshireCat150 on July 12, 2011, 06:52:12 pm
Yep, where's Rak when we need him?  ;)

Thanks for listing some of your favorites. I will listen to them.  :)

Title: Re: Music

Title: Re: Music

Oh I cannot believe the news tonight, oh I can't close my eyes and make it go away!

Sunday, bloody sunday!

Sunday bloody sunday!

How long, how long must we sing this song... how long...

Title: Re: Music

This is a good song. I forgot how good it was, surprisingly. =P

It most certanly is.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 12, 2011, 07:28:15 pm
Yes, yes it is. =) It didn't help that it didn't show up on shuffle when I played some U2 songs a couple weeks back. =P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Rakoua on July 12, 2011, 07:29:25 pm
Yeah.

I also like Gloria, it's a pretty nice song.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 12, 2011, 07:31:51 pm
Oh yeah, that's a good song too. =) Numb's an interesting song, but mostly because it's... weird. =P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Rakoua on July 12, 2011, 07:32:58 pm
I don't like Numb, too repetitive.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 12, 2011, 07:34:49 pm
Yeah, that's why I said interesting, but weird. =P I usually skip it, partly because I can't make out half the words they're saying. xD

Title: Re: Music

I don't have it on my playlist.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 12, 2011, 07:36:56 pm
I see. =P It's only on my playlist because I can't be bothered to remove some of the songs when I add the songs on. =P

Ooh; remembered another good song: One!

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Rakoua on July 12, 2011, 07:37:19 pm
One is another awesome song.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on July 12, 2011, 07:40:02 pm
That it is. =D This is my luck: I skip a few songs ahead in the playlist(Some of them being other artists, since I merely added songs to my existing playlist); and get One more or less instantly. =D

Buddy you're a boy, make a big noise, playing in the streets, gonna be a big man some day, you got mud on your face, ya big disgrace, kicking your can all over the place, saying: we will, we will rock you! We will, we will rock you!

Remembered!

Yes, yes it is. =D

I believe it's this DoaH where that song was sung; but it could be RPGM's. =P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 30, 2011, 11:27:49 am
Kaze and Novia sang Bring Me To Life in one of the DoaHs. =P Might've been during that concert we did, or when we were distracting the Hunters... But it was sung, I know that. =P

Nice, that's epic. I'm working on a new character for DoaH by the way. You think hecould just come in known in Chapter 4.

I don't like girls who like guys that sing.

I only sing in the shower.

Okay, there are 3 songs that go on FOREVER on Lego Rock Band/Band Hero.

American Pie
Free Falling
Everything She Does Is Magic

Title: Re: Music

Be glad you haven't. They last over 8 minutes! And fingers playing on extreme on guitar can't last that long :P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: lionytai on August 30, 2011, 08:27:52 pm
Well, perfessional hands can.

Playing the guitar isn't that hard, I guess.

Title: Re: Music

I bet if I had a guitar controller I could last that long. =P

Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic is 8 minutes long, though?

Title: Re: Music

That's what Jade said.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 30, 2011, 08:40:37 pm
But I could've sworn that the version I listened to wasn't 8 minutes long... So either the one I heard was a radio edit, or I'm thinking of a different song. =P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 30, 2011, 08:52:51 pm
I was talking about the LEGO Rock band version of the song we were just talking about.

And just to say before anything else; the mechanics behind playing songs on the controller are different than IRL; so one method of playing could be different than the real guitar method. =P

Blade: yes, all 5 keys D:

Mahri: Frustrating ones. And, they like to group them together in rock challenges >_> so, you're already tired out from one song, then you have 2 more remaining?! ridiculous!

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 31, 2011, 09:49:14 am
Jade: Yikes. Yeah, I can see how that'd be hard. =P When I had RB2 a few weeks ago, I had to use the PS2 controller. And to use that, you had to hold left. And to do that, you had to have like three hands, hold it down with something that wasn't your fingers, or have part of your thumb hold it down while pressing up to strum. It was hard... And that only had three of the buttons for the most part. =P

Could not figure out what button activated the whammy bar, however...

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Jade on September 01, 2011, 10:57:31 pm
That reminds me of a song....

To the best, to the best of our knowledge we
Are doing are best to fight technology
'Cause back when our parents were in college we
Weren't even born and neither were CD's
'Cause when our folks listened to their rock & roll
They'd gather round and play it on their turntables
These days their records are worthless
'Cause DJ's scratch their records on purpose

So let's put this in a perspective
For the present day in which we live
It's all the same with all the kids
No one knows what vinyl is
Cause they just burn the mp3's
Onto their stacks of blank CD's
And during all that arsony
Their records stay right in their sleeves

It's all the same with all the kids
'Cause no one knows what vinyl is

’Cause these days kids, they are so ignorant
They have no clue what to do with their 7 inch
They say, "It won't play, it's my CD player's fault!"
I'll take it to the park and play some Frisbee golf
So, give me side A, give me side B
It really doesn’t make any difference to me
I tried to burn it like all the CD's I get
What the heck is all this melted plastic mess?!

So let's put this in a perspective
In the present day in which we live
It's all the same with all the kids
No one knows what vinyl is
Cause they just burn the mp3's
Onto their stacks of blank CD's
And during all that arsony
Their records stay right in their sleeves

It’s all the same with all the kids
'cause no one knows what vinyl is

So let's put this in a perspective
In the present day in which we live
It's all the same with all the kids
No one knows what vinyl is

Most artists tend to enjoy being parodied by him though.. (Gaga, Kurt Cobain, Michael Jackson, Chamillionaire, Billie Joe Armstrong etc..)
Well, that's good to hear, as the original people don't mind.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Legodac on September 12, 2011, 07:30:08 pm
I have to admit, just like another song title says, I love to listen, listen to, Beethoven.

Classical music really rocks, after all, it is the root. Also, if you want to talk about power of projection, nothing compares to 133 brass instruments, 12 drummer boys and girls and a string section that reaches beyond fantasy. Electronic does not come close, though sadly, it will one day.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Mahri828 on September 12, 2011, 08:16:02 pm
I will say, classical music does have it's place. But it has nothing in comparison to the thrill of singing your heart out with modern music; I wish I had a glee club. =P

Title: Re: Music
Post by: lionytai on September 12, 2011, 09:02:11 pm
Keep in mind, Classical music was modern at those days.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Legodac on September 12, 2011, 09:09:03 pm
Wow, sparked a little interest there eh, classical is what I listen to when I want to get back in tune with reality.

It's a medium that speaks the true volume, one that must be heard to appreciate it.

As I've said, and so few have, rock and roll derives it's it's roots from the dead, the ones who have left us, and left us with something special...

The term for male soprano is sopranists.

Present day notable sopranists include:
Simone Bartolini
Max Emanuel Cenčić
Aris Christofellis
Philippe Jaroussky
Vyatcheslav "Slava" Kagan-Paley
Adam Lopez (pop, jazz, latin)
Michael Maniaci
Angelo Manzotti
Radu Marian
Tomotaka Okamoto
Brian Charles Rooney (musical theatre)

What's a solo? There is a degree in singing by yourself? And I suppose a solo is not in a choir.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Legodac on September 29, 2011, 07:41:36 pm
A solo performance can always be in a choir, simply means that their talent gets to stand out amongst the rest...
Kinda like a Soliloquy in a play.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Mahri828 on September 29, 2011, 11:20:09 pm
It means that while the rest of the choir is singing, I'd be singing my own line, on a mic, and I would have the melody for that section.

Title: Re: Music

Lionytai: I do play it; but I'm not exactly the greatest at it. =P

Though, one thing piano has over Guitar; it doesn't require attachments. =P Keyboards could have more keys on them, though... As it doesn't match up to a piano at all, and therefore lacks some of the higher pitches...(And that's an understatement. =P)

Hmm? What do you mean? Explain a little further? Also, keep in mind; my keyboard's older than even my computer; as I've only recently decided to actually try and follow up on this. =P But I wouldn't doubt that there's a function somewhere... I just need to find it. =P

Title: Re: Music

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on October 02, 2011, 08:27:41 pm
That's always possible. =P I wonder if there's ever been a lead singer who also plays exclusively keyboard/piano aside from singing...

Also; it seems I need to step my speed up; and learn some other related techniques; otherwise I'd definitely never play something like I Am The Doctor; the theme song for the Doctor in Series 5 of Doctor Who(I think 6 too; but it wasn't play near as much as I would've liked. D=).

Maybe a general music topic will help; did in the past. =P

Discuss any and all kinds of music here.
How about all, as in the universal language? Tabulate this and share, what songs when you listen to them inspire you? For starters one that makes me feel really cool while driving my Pete is "Highway to Hell", awesome tune, not bad lyrics. So my question is this, is there a song that inspires you to go faster when driving? Good question eh?

Hmmmm.... I seemed to mixed up a couple of forums.

So what do you think of the song Marry You when it's done by the Glee cast? =P It's origonally by Bruno Mars.

1. I think so. =P

2. I actually don't think I've heard of it... I might have heard it, but while I've heard the name, I don't recall hearing the song itself. =/

IS that a Christmas song?

Title: Re: Music

No, I don't think so. =P

Nope, definitely not a Christmas song. =P

How about We're Not Gonna Take it? I don't happen to know the author of that song though. =P

Is that the one that's always used as chanting songs in sports? It sounds familiar, and if it's what I think it is, I believe the original singer is REM.

Post by: lionytai on December 24, 2011, 01:17:49 pm
Not every sport uses the same chanting songs.

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on December 24, 2011, 03:04:06 pm
Yeah, I just can't remember which that one goes to. ::) Might be lacrosse or something. *Shrugs*

Title: Re: Music

Baseball uses "We will rock you sometimes".
Every team also has a different chanting song. A lot uses "Let's go...(whatever time)"

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on December 28, 2011, 11:30:21 am
Well, I'm not quite sure if it's a 'chanting song', or just one that's used at the beginning of a game or something. *Shrugs* I don't really pay attention to it. =P

Sunday Night football on NBC uses "I hate myself for loving you" song, but with altered lyrics.

Did you guys know that Adele has three songs that have been nominated for a grammy? Rolling in the Deep, Set Fire to the Rain, and Someone Like You. I think that the second one is my favorite.

I have stopped listening to the radio because of Adele (and other artists and auto tune, but that's an entirely different story)

Lol, what's wrong with Adele if you're in the mood for more sad music? =P

I completely agree with the entire auto tune thing though; it's kinda gotten out of control.

Does anyone here still watch concerts on DVDs? Or on Blu-ray?

1) the radio station in my city plays Adele all the time, which gets annoying.

2) auto tune doesn't even sound good. If it was just used to fix a few notes it would be fine, but people sound like computers, and pretty much anyone can get airplay nowadays.

Not me. If I want to watch live music I watch bits and pieces on youtube. but I don't do that very often.

There are some times when sounding that way could be good... It's just that no-one ever uses it in that way.

Like; one or two songs where sounding like a computer is a good thing, and is accompanied by someone in the techno or electronic genre is good; but not all the time. It just gets overused that way. =P

If any of you are looking for a good cover artist, check out Tyler Ward on youtube, he's really good. =)

I've heard that Tyler Ward is a pretty popular youtube artist, but i'm not that into cover artists. Does he change the songs much, or are they just covers?

Yes, Daft Punk music sounds good with autotuned and overly synthesized and compressed vocals, but that type of music isn't generally marketed as vocal. The vocal parts in electronic music are (generally) using the voice as just another instrument (as in Harder Better Faster Stronger, Around the World etc.)
A lot of Autotune is now used in actual vocal pieces,  and it sounds awful.

^ I can think of a good example for some of the 'awful vocal autotunes'... =P

I've only heard two of Tyler Ward's songs; but it's only because he was singing with another group that was doing cover songs(But has their own songs as well, which are just as good, if not better.).

Anyone like to listen to the oldies here?

Title: Re: Music
Post by: The Host on January 24, 2012, 12:28:12 pm
You'll need to better define oldies. I listen to Big Band Swing on occasion (especially if my school band is doing that style of song), but I'm not sure if that's what you mean...

Title: Re: Music
Post by: mtmerrick on January 24, 2012, 03:38:40 pm
Depends what you mean by oldies.....

my dad has a thing for the Who and Simon&Garfunkel......

Title: Re: Music
Post by: Mahri828 on January 24, 2012, 07:38:03 pm
Tyler Ward changes the music generally only by having a guy sing a girls part or vice versa; but it still sounds amazing. Other than that, the changes are just unavoidable solo preferences that no one can get around. =P

Oldies: Perhaps like the sixties?
