Title: Chlorine (NXT)
Post by: CheshireCat150 on July 04, 2011, 04:57:02 pm
(http://us.mindstorms.lego.com/en-us/community/NXTLog/showmedia.aspx?id=7a8017e9-914b-470b-8822-89f5b92a756c&width=350&height=263)

My entry (Chlorine) for droidfreak36's table clearing contest has been approved!  :) Droidfreak36's prototype for the contest clears the table in a average of 55 seconds per round. My Chlorine clears the table it approximately 3.5 seconds per round.  ;D Want to see how I did it? Please go here(link) (http://us.mindstorms.lego.com/en-us/Community/NXTLog/DisplayProject.aspx?id=5cda807a-2d82-4b22-8bc0-7e29e946a353) to check out Chlorine and watch the video.

Rating would be much appreciated.

Looks very nice, CC150. =) Looks very efficient too.

It also sounds like you beat Droidfreak beyond return. =P

Very impressive, the model even looks cool. I have of those computer lego thingys kickin' around somewhere, perhaps I'll get into this one day.

Wow, awesome! I wanted to give you 6 stars, but thats imposible . . .
I have another challenge for you, create a floor sweeper that picks up lego from the carpet and hard wood floor, and puts them in a bucket! :P (I have tried, and failed miserably.)

I'm glad you all liked it! And thanks for rating! Droidfreak36's prototype (http://us.mindstorms.lego.com/en-us/Community/NXTLog/DisplayProject.aspx?id=0118a41a-3514-425b-8bef-756fb0a6af04) is way more awesome than Chlorine. Using many sensors and a complex program, his table clearer cleared his table with style. Mine may be more boring than his, but it completes the required task in much less time.

Thanks Blade! Yeah, I only hope that it doesn't discourage his contest makings skills... I have a feeling- and I'm sorry if I sound over confident- that there won't be very many more entries. :D

Thanks. The main body of Chlorine (not the arms) was poorly built. I used a lot of my long beams in the arms and I haven't had the heart to take apart my Ultimate LEGO Launcher yet, so my parts are lacking and the structure is therefore oddly shaped (the Intelligent bricks is barely hanging on). But it works consistently, and that is more important.

You have an NXT Intelligent brick? I wonder why you haven't used it...

Just what I have always wanted!!  Excellent job!
 5 stars!

Thanks!  :)

Lol, that's what droidfreak36 needs after his prototype. Clearing the table doesn't really help if all the bricks end up on the floor.  :P That's another advantage of mine: at least all the bricks end up on one side of the table.  ;D

I'm writing down your challenges, by the way. With your suggestions, my family's input, NXTLOG contests, and my own ideas, I will never run out of projects to build again.  :)

Yeah... It's shame, but I think we can understand why. Unless someone turbocharges it(And accidentally in the process turns it into a time machine); I doubt that anyone can beat 3.5 seconds. =P

And that's nice to hear, about the projects. It definitely helps. =P

It's the black thing, I bought 2 and kept one, it sits on a shelf with a couple other Lego boxes

:D I couldn't see how they could beat me without copying my idea. Time travel is a good idea though.  :)

Ok, let me get this straight: You own a black Intelligent brick, but you just leave it sitting on a shelf collecting dust because you don't own an actual set. Am I correct? Do you have a means of obtaining a set anytime soon? You strike me as the type that would be good at Mindstorming.

5 stars have been awarded by me.

Thank you for rating! :-)

Yes, you'd hit two birds with one stone. =P

Very cool. Using technic mobile electronic lego things has never been my strong point, but it would seem that you did an excellent job on yours. Congrats!

Thanks for taking the time to comment, everyone!  :)

Hmm... what about an NXT that jumps off the table then tips it over?  :)

Lol, thanks.

You know, it's like Bruce Lee just cleaned up a table covered with LEGO bricks. You know, boom, bang, sweep - all done.

Seriously though, that's fast. You've probably got the entire competition in the bag. Well done!

HAHA!! That's FUNNY! Thank you very much.  8)

Oooh, that might work. The thing is, what would the size need to be like?

Yeah, the size would have to be pretty enormous in order to tip a card table.

I also had the idea of a robot that you place in the center of the table, and has two big arms (just like Chlorine) that fold down and rotate. It would look similar to a fan, and it would push the LEGO bricks in circles. Eventually, all the bricks would fall off due to centripetal force. Here's a picture:

I would have to build the arms longer than Chlorine's due to the fact that the arms would be reaching across the hypotenuse of the table rather than one side (they would each need to be 6 inches longer). Also, they would need to have more height when rotating on the table to avoid bricks just skipping over it.
