Title: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Mahri828 on September 12, 2011, 03:33:43 pm
Alright. I'm creating a new RPG, Rise of Heroes.

Just go ahead and talk about what you think of it, anything about it, and/or give constructive criticism. I've only gotten the plot storyline down so far, but I should have almost everything else up by the end of the week.

Sounds really interesting can't wait. =)

I think I'm going to experiment with a new power type. As of right now, what I'm planning for the Heroes is that you simply choose something, and you can do it. With some restricting limitations of course though. =P For example, no flying. =P

What about lightning? =P Or, ooh, summoning stuff from thin air! Blasting energy at people is cool too. Or drastically increasing power when extremely mad, maybe?

The first few are good, but no power modifiers. I already have something worked out for that. I'm going to have factions inside the good and bad sides, and the factions will add physical powers accordingly.

Darn. Well, at least one of the powers from my RPGs got tossed out, but seemingly not all the way. =P </jk>

can we have all these powers at once? =P

Well, I was planning to have one power per Hero, so most likely it'll stay that way. =P Also, I was thinking about making the power something that ties in with the Hero's personality. For instance, someone who was rough would kinda be your worst nightmare on the battle field. =P

Ah, I see then.

This might be interesting, given I typically have like four sets of personalities for my characters that aren't in my own RPGs. =P

I guess just try to focus on a main one then. =P

Yes, that might be an idea. Any idea when more stuff about the RPG will be up? =P

I should have more of it up tomorrow. And chances are that it'll almost all be up by Friday. Or all up by Friday, hopefully the latter. =P

I see then. =P What would you add next?

The factions. =P I'll try and get'm up tonight. :)

Quick question before I finish my first char's profile; would manipulating energy ala Ki be considered one or multiple powers? =P If multiple powers; what about summoning barriers out of energy, that could also be used to attack?(Hard to explain)

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Mahri828 on September 13, 2011, 10:28:35 am
Erm... How so? Can you give me an example? =P

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic

Like, he can use energy to create a barrier, but also use that barrier to slice people.

I was initially thinking of something similar to Orihime's abilities; however, i just remembered that there's an even better example that doesn't need to have this character be Bleach-inspired...

The Shield Boomerang from Megaman Zero. Basically, the character could throw something to slice people, or use that to block other attacks(Talking about the RPG character, not Zero. +P

Alright, that sounds okay then. Just keep it fairish for a while, until you're done with training in a faction. I'll kick off the RPG in a little bit, I just need to work out the beginning storyline.

User Name: Blade
Character Name: Tray Seedman
Age: 12
Gender: Male
Character Personality: Tray has a fairly standard personality, as he tends to joke around and such. However, his biggest trait in his personality, is his unwavering will to protect others, including his friends. if his friends are in danger, he would do anything to protect them from threats.
Power: His desire to protect is reflected in his ability to generate a barrier. However, he can also use that barrier to attack by tossing a barrier generated around an object at whoever he is attacking. In the process, though, he is unable to use his barrier power.
Faction: Striker
Weapons: Two Dual Swords, and one Longsword on back for use if needed.
Character Description: Tray has light brown, bordering on blond, hair. His eyes are brown, and reflect his will to protect. He typically wears black or brown clothing, with some green here and there.
Bio: Tray's had a fairly standard life for people who live around there, but has just found out about the opportunities available to people, and has attempted to sign up now, for the program.

Ignore the bio's failness, this is harder since I have almost no clue about what the world of this RPG's like. =P

Yeah, that's fine. I suppose I should get some up too. =P Sorry you can't be on the other side yet, I'm still working on that.

User Name: Mahri828
Character Name: Stutlus Morgan
Age: 12
Gender: Male
Character Personality: On the surface, Stutlus will play pranks on people, joke around, and act like everydays a big party. Underneath, he's on constant watch, looking for every mistake. He doesn't miss much.
Power: Perception; Stutlus percives all the strengths and flaws of what he really looks at. His eyes seem to work a little to well, so to speak. He's infamous for breaking things.
Faction: Strikers
Weapons: Twin cutlasses, and a rather thick and heavy sword on his back, though it's still short
Character Description: Tall, smiling, and lean. He has windswept brown hair, and piercing blue eyes.
Bio: Stutlus has a personal vendetta against dark heros; his parents were killed by them, and he's been living under the Strikers' care ever since. It's only now that they've agreed to start training him.

That's okay, my first character's always the hero side. =P

There should be very interesting things with this personality stuff; I just need to figure out how to get the most out of it. =P

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Mahri828 on September 13, 2011, 12:02:11 pm
Yeah. It's hard to work out a really strong personality with a reflective power to go with it. You seem to be doing okay though. =P

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on September 13, 2011, 12:11:06 pm
Well, I meant in general; there are a few powers that would be difficult to translate to a personality, but i believe I can do it. ;)

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Mahri828 on September 13, 2011, 09:32:50 pm
Yeah, I'm sure you can. Well, the RPG should be ready to go as soon I get to posting some things in there. =P Just so you know, to begin with, there will be a ton of characters that aren't important, so I'll just not make a profile for them. =P

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Flipz on September 13, 2011, 09:49:32 pm
So, you're saying the trope Loads and Loads of Characters (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters) is in full force? :P

I might join this, though I'd have to figure out an archetype.  Possibly on the villianous faction, once it opens. ;)

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Mahri828 on September 13, 2011, 09:58:05 pm
No, no, not that many. Like eight or nine. =P Faction leaders, trainers, and there will of course be a mysterious Brotherhood character, though he'll be slightly more important. If you want to be a villain, go ahead and join now. No matter what you do, you have to start out in the Hero camp, and start with the trainings. The reasons why can't be explained until you join the Dark Heros however.

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on September 14, 2011, 07:53:47 am
Do we have to join the Dark Heros, or can we simply stay good? =P

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Mahri828 on September 14, 2011, 10:56:29 am
Either or. The Dark Heros are just Heros that disband from the normal force and move on to where Kelsier is. That's why they have to be in the good camp origonaly, so that they can leave. =P So that's why I only have on profile sheet.

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic

Ah, I see. =P

How much more stuff is needed? =P

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Mahri828 on September 14, 2011, 11:36:53 am
Me to kick it off. =P The other side won't come in for a while, since we're going to only be kids for the moment, and training is going to be our main focus. But yeah, I just need a good opening IC, which I can probably get today today.

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on September 14, 2011, 11:47:24 am
We're gonna have like a 4 year timeskip, aren;'t we? =P

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Mahri828 on September 14, 2011, 11:55:34 am
Yep, and actually, it's four years exactly. It takes six to be done with training, but we're doing four because.... Well, you notice when you play an RPG, your character is the strongest? That's why. =P

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on September 14, 2011, 12:25:13 pm
... Wow. xD I was just randomly thinking that it'd be because our characters would be more capable of fighting since they'd be 16, but... Wow. xD(That's why I keep making massive time skips, and have retconned some dates in the epic to match the new RPG timeline, or vice versa... Because it makes way more sense. =P)

And I see. That makes a lot of sense. =P

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Mahri828 on September 14, 2011, 12:56:50 pm
If you haven't guessed, the reason we're going to be done with training in four years instead of six is because we're going to challenge the brotherhood. It's a mandatory for anyone who joins the RPG. =P Otherwise you'd just be another normal hero. Odd as that sounds. =P

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on September 14, 2011, 02:01:07 pm
I see. =P Because if everyone's super, no-one's super? =P

Can we do stuff like you guys always do in DoaH, though, and splinter off from the main plot every so often? =P

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Mahri828 on September 14, 2011, 02:15:08 pm
Yeah, we can break off of the main plot, kinda. =P The main plot is *spoiler* the *spoilerspoiler* in *spoiler*! =D But anyways, the main plot only involves a few people, so any ideas can just become side-plots. ;)

I see then. =P Very interesting look into the world of the RPG. So many awesome things will happen, from the looks of that spoiler.

Is it true that *spoiler* will *spoiler* the *spoiler*? =P

Well, I'll try and get the RPG started tonight, but no promises, just high probabilities.

User Name: Flipz
Character Name: Samantha
Age: 12
Gender: Female
Character Personality: Samantha is, to borrow the phrase, silent but deadly.  She rarely speaks, but the fire in her eyes tells all.  She knows exactly what to say, exactly what to do at any time, usually without even being told.  Extremely perceptive, she is the epitome of economy of thought and action; so much so that when she is focused, she has been mistaken for a statue, an illusion doubly reinforced by the tale that she once remained motionless for so long that ivy began to grow over her.
Power: Samantha can throw or fire any object, of any kind, in any direction, and it will unerringly strike its intended target, even through ricochet after ricochet.  She is not physically strong, however, and must rely on camoflage and subterfuge to avoid being detected before she takes her shot.
Faction: Ranger
Weapons: Bow and arrows, standard throwing knives (x3)
Character Description: She wears a sleveless tunic, a short skirt, and boots made from the hide of a brown bear.  She made it herself, and not an inch of the pelt went to waste.  She strung the bear's teeth and claws into  a necklace, but they are easily removable to use as throwing weapons.  Another hide, of indeterminate origin, was made into fingerless gloves with vambraces, to protect her arms from the friction of the bowstring.  Presumably, the rest of the hide was used for other purposes with similar efficiency.  She has blond hair, usually streaked with dirt from her hiding places, and rich green eyes.  She wears a silver ring with a pale violet gem on her left hand.
Bio: Samantha has remained silent about her past, though it is known that her parents are dead.  She has a younger sister, Irina, who is very bright and cheerful, but Irina also refuses to talk about her sister's past, or what exactly happened before the two appeared in the mountains.

Alright, that looks great! Yay, another character! So I'll do my best to set up everything tonight. Quick question though, do you want to start out with everyone knowing everyone, or just meeting?

It's up to you, I wouldn't mind either, to be honest. In fact, just meeting might work for some characters. However, on the flipside, for others it might not. =P

...I think I'll have everyone know each other, inside our character group anyways. More interaction that way.

It's okay; I just wanted to mention it so you didn't think I didn't like the RPG... I just won't be at my normal computer, so it might not be as quick that I can post. =P

So, will this RPG be using the Second Chance system?

Title: Re: Rise of Heroes: RPG -- Discussion Topic
Post by: Mahri828 on September 14, 2011, 10:32:07 pm
Parts of it, yeah. I don't mind going back and changing, but suicide missions are part of all the fun! =D In otherwords, if someone goes somewhere that would kill them, they have to get out of it, or a NPC or one of us has to help them. But since you won't really be fighting intelligent enemies until a time skip or two, that won't be much of a problem for a while. Once you're in the Brotherhood, that's when fighting gets crazy. =P
