Title: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Canama on October 08, 2011, 08:33:45 pm I am fully aware that I am the only one here who plays TF2, but I feel like starting this topic anyways. Maybe I can get someone else to play too. :P
Team Fortress 2 is a free-to-play online multiplayer first-person shooter made by Valve. It was released in 2007 and continues to be updated to this day. (Well, the PC/Mac version does. The PS3/360 versions, which are NOT free-to-play, have gotten like 3 updates ever and lack things like unlockable weapons.) It can be downloaded easily via Steam. The game is based, as the name suggests, on teams. There are two teams, RED (Short for Reliable Excavation & Demolition) and BLU (Builder's League United). Both contain nine mercenaries, employed by companies that, while seemingly innocuous (Look at the names! Just construction companies, right?), actually each control half of the word. There are nine classes (Each one of the different mercenaries is a class). They are Scout, Soldier, Pyro, Demoman, Heavy, Engineer, Medic, Sniper, and Spy. Each has a very distinct playstyle, which is exacerbated by the large number of unlockable weapons that let you tailor your characters in a way that best suits you. It is also ridiculously fun. Discuss. (Or don't, since none of you have the game. :P) -Canama Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: mtmerrick on October 09, 2011, 02:16:38 am i'd join if i had the time............
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Canama on October 09, 2011, 02:24:15 pm i'd join if i had the time............ Eh, it's not like it requires a significant time investment.-Canama Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on October 10, 2011, 11:47:55 am I'd join, if I had the space. Problem is totally that, as I don't entirely foresee that changing permanently very soon. =P Though, if I actually get through some things, I should have a lot more space.
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: KnownandUnknown on December 02, 2011, 03:01:25 pm I'll join you when my computer is able to meet the recommended requirements (I wish I could play though, I have been for a long while)
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Canama on August 14, 2012, 01:26:03 am MANN. VERSUS. MACHINE.
That is all. Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 14, 2012, 09:03:53 am I've been playing recently; and it is definitely fun for me.
Most fun is getting blown up quite a few times, and then switching to Pyro, and setting everyone on the other team on fire. On an instant respawn server yesterday, I managed to set almost the entire team on fire, before finally getting taken down. xD "Whoa, how many people did I just ignite? xD" "A lot." Also, Mann Vs. Machine sounds very intriguing, can't wait for tomorrow's update. Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 14, 2012, 07:11:44 pm I am almost at spymaster, need 17 more backstabs or so. Only have 250 on my strange knife though. TF2 isn't letting me change my spy loadout though =\
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 14, 2012, 07:38:22 pm The item server's up and down tonight. It's barely up right now, I think.
Also, add me(BZP Blade), wagner; I need to actually fight some of you guys sometime. xD Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Canama on August 14, 2012, 08:54:45 pm The item server's up and down tonight. It's barely up right now, I think. Yeah. Take note that the "item server" seems to be the same as the "Steam Community server", so they typically share downtimes. Also, add me(BZP Blade), wagner; I need to actually fight some of you guys sometime. xD Expect item server downtime when the Steam Community update comes out. Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 14, 2012, 10:13:38 pm Well, I believe the item server's been down more tonight than the Steam Community site has, but typically, that is indeed true. I do expect downtime, and might take a break, especially if it breaks items.
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 14, 2012, 11:34:32 pm I still can use my custom items, I am just currently with y.e.r. enforcer and invisiwatch, which is okay. I prefer both cnd and dead ringer to invisiwatch with y.e.r.
I normally use Ambassador, A strange Knife, and Invisiwatch, though I switch to enforcer when I am aiming poorly. What loadouts do you all like for your favorite class? I am going to try to get a strange ambassador, though I haven't seen anything selling for below 3ref. I got the knife for one ref, which isn't a bad price. I have currently around 1ref worth of weapons which I am willing to trade (and maybe smelt sometime in the future) so if you want a specific weapon I may have it/be willing to trade it. Blade, when I search bzp blade no results =\ Also my mom may not be too keen on me adding people I don't know in real life, though I am sure we can play sometime =P Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 15, 2012, 08:59:40 am 2. Well, I don't really have much yet, having just started a few weeks ago, but
3. Silly question I'm sure, but what are refs? Refined Metals? 4. Hmm, that's odd, I wonder why it did that...(Did it to myself the other day, when I tried to find my own profile) You could find me through the MLNO group, I'm the one with Wheatley as the avatar. =P Fair enough, though, about the second point. =P Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 15, 2012, 11:36:03 am 3. Yes, they are equal to 18 weapons
got spymaster (http://bit.ly/bBWczl) Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 15, 2012, 03:47:39 pm 3. Thought so. *Nods*
Sorry, didn't see that. =/ Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 15, 2012, 06:44:47 pm I'll be back on for a bit, on the server I posted earlier, though I am content joining a different server of your choice.
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 15, 2012, 06:46:19 pm What's the server name, if you know it? I haven't actually tried outside connections yet. =P
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 15, 2012, 07:02:07 pm Convict gaming minecraft 7 or something along those lines. I think there is 100% crits or something goofy like that, but it is a cool map and is fun.
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 15, 2012, 07:15:30 pm yeah, I can't join you yet; don't have the right map. =/
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 15, 2012, 07:19:32 pm if you find another server I'll join it.
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 15, 2012, 07:56:22 pm I've mostly just been server hopping recently. xD I'll try and find one, though. =) Preferably an empty one.
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 15, 2012, 08:00:49 pm I know a few empty with bots if you want that.
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 15, 2012, 10:04:28 pm Oh yeah? I ran into one similar to that earlier, was rather fun, though I had to get off. =P
/EDIT: Haha, isn't that just my luck, I was still not even a quarter of the way through the achievements up at the moment, and they add more. Well, look like I know what I'm playing tomorrow. ::) //EDIT: In fact, wagner, find a server tomorrow, and save me a spot; I'll do the same if I manage to convince people on BZP to actually play matches with me. =P Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 16, 2012, 09:28:49 pm I could do some for a little bit now
well I was in a car for 10 hours today, so sorry about not being on. Probably won't be able to go on until maybe monday afternoon, though it is my last day of summer. Tuesday afternoon/evening should be okay. Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 16, 2012, 09:56:28 pm Timezones, how I hate them. =P
I understand; I'll try to scout out a server to play on, though in the meantime, try and play a little of MvM, if you can; it really good. =) Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 16, 2012, 10:36:42 pm I am curious to see how your eternal reward plays in mvm. I don't know if the machines detect silent backstabs, if they don't it could be excellent
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 16, 2012, 11:11:38 pm Well, wouldn't your disguise go down anyway? And therefore alert you to the horde of machines just waiting to turn around and fill your body with lead?
No, sappers are the way to go, despite me not playing as a spy yet. I barely use the spy in normal mode, I'm not ready for this yet. xD Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Canama on August 17, 2012, 03:33:39 pm YER's upside is that, upon backstab, you instantly disguise as the player you stabbed. No smoke clouds or anything; it's instant. The downside is that you can't manually disguise.
You can chainstab with it, allowing you to get multiple stabs without dropping disguise. Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 17, 2012, 03:39:04 pm Ooh, interesting. I honestly haven't used it yet. >_>
I can understand why it'd be used now, then. Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Canama on August 17, 2012, 05:31:52 pm Ooh, interesting. I honestly haven't used it yet. >_> It's hard to do until you get used to playing Spy. You need to know how to work the cloak pretty well first.I can understand why it'd be used now, then. Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 17, 2012, 05:38:58 pm You'd need to cloak, unclock, stab, cloak again, and get safely away before they started shooting at you. =P
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 17, 2012, 09:26:15 pm if the robots don't react to silent backstabs, the spycicle may be great for mvm.
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 17, 2012, 09:29:14 pm Doesn't the Spycicle get rid of your disguise, though?
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Canama on August 17, 2012, 09:35:36 pm Yep.
ANYWAYS: I preordered CS:GO, so I should be getting the AWPer Hand! ON THE DOWNSIDE: TF2 just uninstalled itself apparently, or rather Steam seemingly won't recognize the installation. The files are still there; I haven't touched them. Yet despite that Steam claims it's uninstalled? EDIT: I realized that I still have TF2 installed on OSX, so I checked for the AWP there. I have it! Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 18, 2012, 05:46:19 pm in css awp is considered a noob weapon like the machina is in tf2 =P
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Canama on August 18, 2012, 06:44:47 pm I disagree that it's a noob weapon; even in high-level CS games it gets a lot of use.
I suppose that's because it's ridiculously OP. :P I mean, one hits on anything but the legs? Come on. Thank God they made it give out only $50 reward money in GO. (Seriously, screw the AWP) BUT ANYWAYS MvM is like the greatest thing. I might actually buy some tickets and go for Mann Mode. The lobby system is godawful, though. It needs some major fixing. Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 18, 2012, 06:50:05 pm That's what he meant, I believe. =P
MvM is awesome, I definitely agree. =D I've found a good way to fix it, is to search for 6 player servers. That way, you bypass the matchmaking service, and can manually see what servers are full, and which aren't. =) Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Canama on August 18, 2012, 07:06:55 pm That's what he meant, I believe. =P I just type "mvm" on the "map" field and look for servers with one or two connected.MvM is awesome, I definitely agree. =D I've found a good way to fix it, is to search for 6 player servers. That way, you bypass the matchmaking service, and can manually see what servers are full, and which aren't. =) Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 18, 2012, 07:09:52 pm Same, but I cut down on the search time by typing '6' in the max players field. =P
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Canama on August 18, 2012, 08:46:52 pm Also, if anyone else is disappointed that the Gray Team is colored blue, here (http://gamebanana.com/tf2/skins/download/119917) is a download for gray skins.
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 19, 2012, 07:37:12 pm blade, may be able to play tomorrow, but I also have to watch a movie, write two reports, set up my binders, and read 150ish pages.
I haven't liked spy too much in mvm, prefer regular gameplay with him. Haven't done mvm much at all with other classes. Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Canama on August 19, 2012, 08:09:31 pm Spy in MvM is massively UP. Sapper is good, but the limits on it prevent it from being used to much effect. Backstabs would be useful, except for the fact that when you kill one robot all of the others turn around and murder you. Revolver isn't as good as the other classes' guns.
On the other hand, Engie is massively OP. Wrangler + Disposable Sentry + Two-way Teleporter + Additional metal + Additional building HP? Nothing but a Sentry Buster, Rapid-Fire Soldier, or Deflector Heavy can touch that. Behind Engie, Heavy or Scout are probably the second-best class. Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 19, 2012, 08:33:48 pm Engie and Scout rock, as shown by our match the other day, Canama. xD Engie for sentry, Scout for just dashing around, firing at things that move.
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 24, 2012, 05:43:40 pm anyone want to mvm sometime tonight?
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 24, 2012, 05:46:11 pm I would, but the computer that I know can run TF2 is quite a few cities away right now. =P
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 24, 2012, 05:48:02 pm I am going to play some demoman, see how he plays out in mvm
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 24, 2012, 06:28:03 pm Demoman's fun. But he's best as a trapper; lay stickies, and then detonate them later.
Haven't tried DemoKnight yet, though I tried the Soldier/Demoman shared sword, and got stuck on it by accident, and could barely kill a Scout. xD Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Canama on August 24, 2012, 10:01:00 pm All right, Cave Johnson mode. Let's do this:
I'd like to announce that I'm selling all my duplicate weapons for 1 scrap each. Now, I won't lie to you here: I am trying to rip you off. Upside, nobody ever killed anybody with a couple pieces of scrap metal. Currently, I'm selling a Fan O' War, Bazaar Bargain, Tribalman's Shiv, Scottish Resistance, Natascha, Homewrecker, and Southern Hospitality. EDIT: All gone except Natascha Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 25, 2012, 10:16:45 am If you can hold Natascha, I'll take it when I get access to trade again; though I'll understand if you can't keep it until then.
I should try the same idea eventually, getting a stock of dupe weapons myself, slowly but surely. =P Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Canama on August 25, 2012, 12:19:01 pm It's all gone, I wound up selling them off for the market price.
(I.E. 1 scrap per two) Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 25, 2012, 01:04:07 pm Wow, they went rather fast. 0_o
Fair enough, though. =) Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 25, 2012, 04:31:35 pm 1 scrap per two Doesn't it only take take only two weapons to make one scrap? I may have a natascha, along with a bunch of other items I am willing to trade, such as the winger, huntsman, natascha, jarate, bushwaka, mantreads, reserve shooter, righteous bison, postal pummeler, Holy mackerel, escape plan, dalokoh's bar, the bootlegger, persian persuader, the overdose, bazaar bargain, buffalo steak sandvich, equalizer, bonk! atomic punch, sharpened volcano fragment, big earner, cozy camper, cloak and dagger, righteous bison, dead ringer, gunslinger, warriors spirit, shahanshah, vita saw, and the enforcer. About half of them are duplicates, others I don't need/use (like vita saw, I use crossbow/amputator as medic). I know it is a lot =P Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Canama on August 25, 2012, 06:04:06 pm 1 scrap per two Doesn't it only take take only two weapons to make one scrap? Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 25, 2012, 06:34:34 pm well what would the benefit of trading be?
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 25, 2012, 07:28:49 pm Likely for him to get rid of duplicate weapons, while allowing others to get weapons they need. ;)
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 25, 2012, 07:39:37 pm ah, I see
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 25, 2012, 07:40:45 pm That's what I figure, at least. =P
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 27, 2012, 07:46:02 pm I prefer soldier over demoman in mvm, though I am not great at either class =P If spy wasn't so up I would use him, as I have aprox 83% of the spy achievements, though that doesn't measure too much skill.
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 28, 2012, 09:50:03 am Use Engie or Pyro, you'll thank me. =P
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 28, 2012, 02:41:27 pm I have played as both, engineer is the uncontested best. I find heavy, soldier, and demo to be more useful than pyro, though that is just my opinion.
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 28, 2012, 04:48:47 pm That's because everyone finishes them off. You get more assists as the Pyro than anyone else, I believe. xD Aside from maybe Engie. And yes, Engie is definitely best.
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 28, 2012, 06:26:18 pm the residual damage of flames I find to be inferior to rockets/bombs/heavy's minigun dps. And needing to get up close, unless you're using a flare gun.
I'd say the top tier would be engie the next tier would be Soldier, demoman, heavy, medic and probably pyro, as they are all good. Last would be scout, sniper and spy as they are by no means bad (fully charged headshots on giants along with jarate along with relatively cheap sniper rifle upgrades, the upgraded sapper is also useful for giants and backstabbing medics and the spy can collect credits extremely well, and the scout can get some decent damage along with collecting credits well) Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 29, 2012, 11:45:14 am Getting in close doesn't really matter, especially if you get the 'restore health on kill' upgrade for the flamethrower. Then you're just torching everyone and laughing all the way. ... Actually, just being the Pyro, now that I think of it. =P
The Scout is good... If he actually decides to grab the cash. If not, things go bad quickly. And if anyone tells you, when you're a scout, to stop grabbing the cash... Ignore them. I kinda wish friendly fire could be on for MvM to kill those people in response, but it'd just backfire on you, like a sentry that decides it's engineer is it's true target, and shoots rockets at him.(Happened to me. Twice.) Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: . on August 29, 2012, 08:12:17 pm lol. Your entry gun probably aimed for enemies behind you. this can generally be avoided, depending on where you stand/the map
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on August 31, 2012, 02:10:20 pm Yeah, there was no getting around that, and yes, it was aimed at things behind me. Stupid Scouts. =P
