Title: Pseudohumanity [Sign-up/Discussion Topic]
Post by: Trijhak on July 22, 2012, 03:57:14 pm
This is the signup topic for the upcoming RPG Pseudohumanity, an RPG about the ethics of cybernetic implants and rising number of cyborgs, as well as early extraterrestrial colonisation on the Moon, and the possibility of sentient life on Mars, in order of importance. The reason this is here is because the basic stuff is figured out. Other things need to be fleshed out before the actual topic goes up (which will be soon).

The sign-up sheet:

Name:
Cybernetic Implants?: Yes/No/Other (you may expand if you choose other, for example your character may be 0% human and be 100% cybernetics for some reason. Choosing no would mean they are pure human. You can also specify what the implant is.)
Age:
Appearance:
Location: (you could say a place on Earth, or that they are on one of the moon colonies)
Extra Details:

-=LIST OF CHARACTERS=-

Name: Seth Tregol
Cybernetic Implants: Yes (Cybernetic Right Hand, Cybernetic Eyes)
Age: 19
Appearance: Seth is 5'7 tall has blonde, short hair. If it were not for his implants, he would look 'normal' by today's standards, and he often wears all-white clothing. He is of Asian descent, and wears sunglasses to cover up his cybernetic eyes, and gloves on both hands because society is still trying to accept cyborgs, and he could get killed if those in the EUS knew he was a cyborg.
Location: Earth, Eastern United States of America, near the border between the EUSA and the WUSA.
Extra Details: He really likes his implants, as his Cybernetic eyes let him see far more than his natural eyes ever could, as they can adapt to the darkness.

Name: Virunk
Cybernetic Implants?: No
Age: 20
Appearance: Virunk has bright green hair that is either worn down, or in spikes that have an odd look to them. Virunk typically wears either a black tank top, or a black jacket over the tank top. Virunk also has blue jeans, and he has a frown on his face most of the time. Due to his sword proficiency, and the hostile nature of the Cyborgs which have taken over, Virunk wears a sword on his back at all times.
Location: Wherever humans rule typically, but Cyborgs have actually taken over.
Extra Details: Virunk can wield a sword rather well, and has fairly good dodging skills, making people who don't know him think he has implants. He has had his family and friends brutally killed by the Cyborgs, including his mentor, who taught him how to fight, and wield a sword.

That would mean you would likely be in Asia, in either the Chinese Empire or Korea. Both have mandatory implants, in Korea so that the dictator can literally force propaganda into your brains. Action will be taken against non-cyborgs. In the Western United States of America, the European Union (which now includes Australia and NZ) and a few other places, cyborgs are mostly accepted and aren't hostile. Or perhaps you're in South America.

There's no war between Humanity and Cyborgs... not yet. A war between nations that do not accept cyborgs and nations that do is more likely. (i.e. a war between the Eastern United States and the Western United States)

Nations that accept Cyborgs:
Chinese Empire [MANDATORY to be one] (The Chinese empire takes up most of Asia now)
Korea [MANDATORY to be one]
All nations below accept Cyborgs and they generally aren't hostile if they are Cyborgs:
EU (now including Australia and NZ)
Japan (they are masters of cybernetics)
Western United States
Russia
Canada

Nations that forbid Cybernetics, possibly punishable by death if you are one:
Eastern United States
Most nations in Africa
All middle Eastern nations
Most South American Nations (although those high up in crime can get implants, as South America is in chaos and ruled by crimelords. Only those deemed worthy can get them, which is very few.)

Well, I don't mean that they're forced to; I mean that the place was typically human only, but the Cyborgs took over and killed the majority of the normal humans.

I'm willing to have it be a city or region at the most, however; and be set in Canada or Japan.

Canada then, probably ;) japan loves cyborgs

Name: Matt Keito

Appearance: Image Link. (http://www.majhost.com/gallery/mtmerrick/misc/character.jpg) 6'2"
Location: Japan, though wants to go to mars
Bio: An only child with parents in the government, Matt has always been a bit of a prodigy: he helped create the first sentient computer system at age 16. He recently got a very important job at a robotics firm.

Doesn't necessarily mean Cyborgs love them. =P

Though, to explain slightly; the majority of them are nearly full cyborgs; more on line with androids.

my character is a typical Japanese citizen, as far as implants go. some have more, very few have less.

Name: Amarus Zagrene
Cybernetic Implants?: Other; Zagrene was forcibly experimented upon as a child, injected with tiny nanobots that constantly change his makeup, seemingly randomly, according to their own, unknown plan.  These nanites can replace cybernetics with flesh and vice versa, healing injury without any sign it had taken place.  Virtually the only cybernetic implants that remain the same are the chip in his brain containing his memories and enhancing his reflexes (the only cybernetics he had before his incident), and a plate in each of his hands with a yet-unknown purpose.
Age: 20
Appearance: Brown hair and eyes, with a red long-sleeved rayon shirt and earth blue pants of the same material.  Pale-skinned, almost pasty due to rare exposure to sunlight.  Keeps the front of his hair trimmed neatly, but has a braid in the back.
Location: California, Northridge.
Extra Details: Though one of Hollywood's rising stars, Zagrene actually spends most of his time in counselling, trying to deal with the trauma of his cyborgification and his lack of control over his own cybernetics.  Though his neighbors and coworkers try their best to convince him that cybernetics are OK, inwardly he hates them, wishing he were a pure human in the Eastern United States or another country where cybernetics were unpopular, but knowing he can never go there or risk being killed or worse.  He loves and hates his friends, liking them as people but hating their impurity, just as he loves and hates himself.  A calm, rational man, constantly subduing a deep internal madness, wishing not to surrenderto it but knowing resistance is futile.

Name: Lieutenant Hazel Trenmari
Cybernetic Implants?: Yes
Implants: self-healing carbon nanotube plating (bulletproof) under her ribs, right arm up to shoulder, right leg(covered in SynthSkin), left foot (covered in SynthSkin), left ear (internal implant, not visible),enhanced left eye (not visible, provides HUD only), limited neural implant (internet access, but no cyberspace virtualization: military requirement)
Age: 22
Appearance: almost always in military uniform, black hair, green eyes. 5'8. Of European decent.
Home: EU (Dublin)
Bio: a member of the EU Army, Hazel Trenmari serves under an 85% cyborg commander, and takes her job very seriously, though loves to have fun when she's off duty. Her superiors have chided her as being a loose cannon, but have never punished her because she's such a valuable soldier. Has recently been assigned to a protective corp, guarding the WUSA ambassador all her implants were done of her over free will, and her own paycheck, except the neural implant, which is a military requirement. .

Name: Rakoua Nehori
Cybernetic Implants?: None
Age: Unknown, appears to be in his early twenties.
Appearance: Very pale skin, brown hair. Wears some sort of scientist's robe.
Location: Minsk, in the EU
Extra Details:
He was recently involved in an incident during a trip to the Moon in which he mysteriously lost his memory. Prior to that, his name is mentioned in some records from 30 years ago, but otherwise he doesn't exist.

Name: Rock
Cybernetic Implants?: Other: Rock is entirely mechanical, though has a prototype emotion circuit, based off research from America. He theoretically could be capable of true intelligence, if his programming was updated slightly somehow, though his emotion circuit is able to influence his decisions, and could theoretically cause him to disobey orders. He has an arm cannon built into his left arm, as well.
Age: 16
Appearance: Rock's robotic shell was designed to look like an average male teenager, with green eyes and black hair. He has a set of battle armour that is blue in colour, and has a matching helmet, inspired by the design of the protagonist of the old game series 'Megaman'.
Location: Originally created by Light/SciLab industries in Japan, but has since headed to North America, hearing about evil robots in the area.
Extra Details: Rock has more capabilities with Artificial Intelligence than the typical robot, however, he still only relies on specific requirements; though a brain map update would allow that limitation to be taken away.

Any non-sentient (at this time Kira is the only one) robots have to abide by the three laws of robotics, remember. So I'm not sure how useful that arm cannon would be.

Title: Re: Pseudohumanity [Sign-up/Discussion Topic]
Post by: Blade on August 20, 2012, 03:28:59 pm
Technically even Kira should abide by them, but... =P

And the arm cannon would be used against the robots that break those laws.

Post by: mtmerrick on August 20, 2012, 03:50:24 pm
o_O you can't break the three laws of robotics. If its programmed into a robot its literally impossible. And its illegal in every country to leave them out. Too many people got worried about a robot uprising :P

Robot uprising you say?

Title: Re: Pseudohumanity [Sign-up/Discussion Topic]
Post by: mtmerrick on August 20, 2012, 03:58:55 pm
Well, back in the dawn of the robotics era, some idiots got the idea to start developing military robots. When they became fully autonomous everyone started freaking out and there was a nearly unanimous worldwide decision to enact the 3 laws of robotics on a global scale.

Title: Re: Pseudohumanity [Sign-up/Discussion Topic]
Post by: Trijhak on August 20, 2012, 03:59:08 pm
MTM, the three laws can apply to Rock and not conflict. Remember, they are not to injure a human being or allow them to come to harm, must obey the orders given to it, except when it conflicts with the first law, and must protect its own existence as long as it does conflict with the other two laws. It can fight other robots, but not humans. Rock has heard about 'evil robots', not 'evil humans'.

Besides, that's not even the most ridiculous thing in the RPG as of right now. One of the more ridiculous things is the talking inappropriately flirtatious motorcycle that used to be a human. Yes, I was tired when I came up with it.

MTM: Tell that to Canada. =P Light SciLab Industries got wind of the uprising, and, well, this was the result. =P

Skrief: But even still, that motorcycle is awesome. =D

Personally I love the motorcycle. :P

Also, Light SciLab Industries? Sounds... awkward. Perhaps LightSci Laboratories? Light Science Industries?

@ skrief - great explanation! So Rock is a misinformed robot hunter then?

Post by: Blade on August 20, 2012, 04:06:28 pm
Light Science Industries would work. I didn't really give much thought, because most of the reason is for backstory, and so Mr. Smith can't take over Rock. =P

Name: Retnuh
Cybernetic Implants?: Other: Retnuh has 99% of his body converted into cybernetics; however, he is not a total robot, even still.
Age: Unknown
Appearance: Imagine the Terminator. ... No, not with the Arnold Schwarzenegger look, the robot base without any humanoid look. Yeah, Retnuh looks like that, due to his body's conversion.
Location: Currently unknown.
Extra Details:  Retnuh is renowned as a famous assassin, able to use his converted body for highly precise attacks. He can carry many weapons at a time, due to having superior strength, compared to humans.

As far as I was aware, character profiles don't need approval. I never said that they did, you can start playing as soon as you post your profile.
