Title: Rosewater II: Veri Vitae
Post by: The Truth on November 27, 2014, 04:55:43 am
Nobilitas in Falsitate
-Rosewater family crest.

??. Rome, 1986.
I contemplate the document before me. "It's a risky proposition, Alan." I find myself muttering under my breath, as if trying to conceal my doubts from him.
But to try to conceal anything from that man is an exercise in futility. He stands and looks at me, his scarred, prematurely aged face both kind and vicious at once. "Anything with a high potential for reward..." he begins. "has high potential for risk." I say, finishing our mentor's favorite motto. "I know, Alan, I do." I say. "But I can't just drop all my money into your projects at the drop of a hat anymore! I'm a married man, with two children to provide for!"

Alan slams his hand down on my desk. I flinch and lean backwards in my chair as Alan Rosewater stands at at his full height. "You would put your family...a mere three people...above the entire world? How many families do you think this world holds, my friend? How many are you discarding in favor of your own? I thought you a stronger man than that." I sigh. "I can't argue with you, Alan. I never could. This project of yours...this chain of schools...will have my investment."

Alan nods. "I must ask one more thing of you, old friend. I've lived a harsher life than most, and made many enemies. Should anything befall me, I want to know the Project will survive."
"Of course, Alan. Anything for you." I say, rising to shake his hand. "But...I was under the impression you planned on siring an heir yourself?" I ask. He shakes his head. "I have a different goal for my child-to-be. We each have our own part to play." So saying, he slowly turns and leaves my office. I will not see him again until his funeral is held...but even then, Alan is prepared. Even his death is carefully planned out, and the mere sight of his body tells me what must be done. I will not fail. I owe him that.

Sally Finch. New Orleans, 2014
I close my eyes and breathe deeply. The scent of my lunch is divine. At Rosewater Academy, I was always given whatever foods I wanted...but I always asked for the same things. And in the mental hospital, the food might have been good, but it was still hospital food. But now...I was released officially seven months ago, and I'm celebrating with a cross-country trip with my fiance, Tomas (I should probably TELL him that he's marrying me, now that I think about it). This trip is exactly what I need...good food, beautiful scenery, and new experiences. It's time to drown out the bad memories with new ones.

My phone buzzes in my pocket. It's a text from my doctor, Dr. Nadzieja. He wants to know if I'm enjoying my trip - and remembering my medication. I roll my eyes and send him a quick text back, telling him that I'm having a wonderful time and not to worry. I'm about to return my phone to my pocket with it buzzes again, this time with an email alert. I open the email, and feel my throat clench.

It's from admin@rosewater.evl. My old email address, back when the Veronica personality was in control of my mind. But the government shut down the servers and confiscated everything. That email address shouldn't exist anymore.
A bead of cold sweat runs down my back as I open the message. My fear turns to confusion. The message...it's complete nonsense.
I close my phone and try to calm my breathing. Tomas will be back with drinks any minute. No need to worry him. The email program probably just glitched. or something. There's probably nothing to worry about.

I shake my head and take a bite of my crawfish. It's delicious, but...it's hard to swallow with the sudden lump in my throat.

"Yo." Tomas said with a smile, as he walked back with drinks; though Sally seemed as if she was almost... unnerved about something, from her body language?

Title: Re: Rosewater II: Veri Vitae

"Yo." Sally smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes.

"What's up?" Tomas asked, definitely intrigued now.

"Clouds."

Tomas smiled in amusement, but still seemed perplexed.
"Alright then; how are you?" Tomas asked, since she still seemed a bit off to him, and yet, he had only left for like a few minutes.

OOC: That was Roxanne, Truth. =P Yu know, first gym leader....? =P

Title: Re: Rosewater II: Veri Vitae
Post by: The Truth on November 29, 2014, 11:49:15 am
OOC: Yeah, I noticed that last night.

IC: "I'm fine. Everything is fine."

Title: Re: Rosewater II: Veri Vitae
Post by: Blade on November 29, 2014, 07:16:54 pm
OOC: I also found Tate and Liza in Lilycove Mall, which would make the third or fourth Gym Leader to be out of their place now, counting Wattson. That leaves Norman, Flanner, Brawly, Winona, and maybe Wallace, if Delta Episode's counted.

-==IC: Tomas==-

"Would you tell me if something wasn't okay?" Tomas asked both teasingly and concernedly, as he still seemed skeptical of things.

Title: Re: Rosewater II: Veri Vitae
Post by: The Truth on November 29, 2014, 07:24:44 pm
OOC: Yeah, those two were the first I found. Flannery is in the Scorched Slab looking for Heatran.

IC: "If I thought there were anything to worry about, yes."

Title: Re: Rosewater II: Veri Vitae
Post by: Blade on November 29, 2014, 09:12:09 pm
OOC: Does it pan like the other two? If so, I count them, technically. =P

-==IC: Tomas==-

"Alright then." Tomas said with a sigh, conceding the point for right then, though she still just didn't seem right, as if there was something bothering her she didn't want to admit.

IC: "So, where should we head next? Maybe somewhere overseas?"

OOC: LIke, mini auto-cutscene.

-==IC: Tomas==-

"Hm, might be an idea; anywhere in mind?"

"I'd say Paris or Rome."

Title: Re: Rosewater II: Veri Vitae
Post by: Blade on November 30, 2014, 01:07:58 pm
OOC: Lisia... IS... WALLACE'S NIECE... "Impressive contest skills... Equally impressive battle skills... *Player name*, I've gotta tell my uncle about making friends with a star like you! He's great at contests and battling, too! You've gotta meet him, *player name*!" And since this could happen, theoretically, any time after Slateport and before Sootopolis...

-==IC: Tomas==-

"Hm... Never been to rome; that could be cool."

OOC: /EDIT: FREAkinG CONFIRMED. I challenged the Beauty contest again, and Wallace proceeded to curbstomp me, then I got a dressing room cutscene where Lisia and Wallace both explained that he is in fact her uncle.

"Lisia is the daughter of my elder sister and does not live in Sootopolis any longer." Also, that posing was a big hint they were related somehow. =P Wallace inspired Lisia, too.

Also, apparently Wallace is friends with 'that trainer who looks like a star'? Wonder who that is... The guy who likes Stones is pretty dang obvious, but...

"After this, I feel I should try my hand at contests again. Or perhaps I should steal the title of Pokemon League Champion from you. That could be quite amusing..."

"I imagine Steven must be gnashing his teeth over missing today's Contest Spectacular."

Title: Re: Rosewater II: Veri Vitae
Post by: The Truth on November 30, 2014, 08:13:29 pm
OOC: 0_O I stopped after I beat Lisia in the contest, I never saw Wallace!

IC: "Rome, then?"

-==IC: Tomas==-

"Yeah." Tomas said with a nod.

OOC: Heh, I kept going because I wanted that glass statue. Stopped after finally beating Beauty Master for the 3rd time, because that took way too long to beat the third time; they definitely got a buff after beating Lisia.

Title: Re: Rosewater II: Veri Vitae
Post by: The Truth on December 01, 2014, 03:21:59 am
OOC: I didn't know there WAS anything more. ^^;

IC: Sally picked up her phone to order the tickets. Her hands were shaking.

OOC: Don't abandon Phoenix/Alone. :P

Title: Re: Rosewater II: Veri Vitae
Post by: Blade on December 01, 2014, 05:53:46 pm
OOC: Heh, I knew about the Pidgeot Statue, which is why I kept going. =P

Also, I won't, just don't have a ton of time. =P

-==IC: Tomas==-

"You really sure you're alright?" Tomas asked, slightly skeptically.

Title: Re: Rosewater II: Veri Vitae

She sighed. "I got an email from my old Admin account. Just gibberish, but it brought up some...unpleasant memories."

"Hmm..." Tomas frowned, unsure what that could mean.
"Gibberish, though?" Tomas asked, curious as to what that might be about, but nodded, as he sighed, and chuckled slightly. "if you had've mentioned it, I would've tried to cheer you up sooner." Tomas said with a smile, trying to help reassure Sally; though he was still unsure what this was all about.
Wasn't that shut down? Why would it...

"Yeah, gibberish." She handed him her phone and opened her email. It read:

Tomas frowned, as he looked through the... whatever it was.
"Hm... Noticing two things here..." Tomas said, as he showed Sally the thing again.
"What's that second email address? I don't think I've seen that before... The third seems about as odd, and... Seems connected to the other two." Tomas pointed out, as he thought for a moment.
"RTP... i can wager a guess what the first letter means, but what does the other two mean..." Tomas said, and then looked at the message again.
"I have a hunch there's more to this message than it seems, though. This doesn't look like normal gibberish."

"Please don't say that. I just...I want to forget what happened. I don't want to think that it might...start up again...I...I'm scared, Tomas.  If something happens...what if Veronica takes control again?"

Title: Re: Rosewater II: Veri Vitae

"Veronica won't take over again." Tomas said, as he placed a reassuring hand on Sally's shoulder.
"And no matter what, I'll be with you to make sure things go a-ok." Tomas said, as he smiled reassuringly. In an amusing twist of fate, Tomas now was the one trying to make sure that Sally wasn't worrying.

The decrypted version of the first email read:
Situation normal. Joshua Rend still MIA. Agent 99-T progresses to Rome. Sally/V to return to Paris. KNN-TL program revived.

-Noël.

The second email apparently used a different key.

"What the..." Tomas mumbled almost inaudibly, as he looked at the contentsof the deciphered email, and then typed in the second, and failed at that. Thinking, Tomas scratched his head for a moment, and tried that name that showed up at the end, on a hunch, even as he noticed the third email...

Message received. Forwarded to all agents Re: XL-97. Will report in on Case 44m. PS: Veronica remains CCd? Is this a possible risk, or can only the proper personality decrypt?

(Sally): "...So my options are a flight in three hours, or at midnight tomorrow...I...guess I'll take the one in three hours?"

Title: Re: Rosewater II: Veri Vitae
Post by: Blade on December 02, 2014, 02:13:45 am
-==IC: Tomas==-

"Three hours sounds good to me." Tomas said, as he looked up with a smile, uncertain what's going on here.
"Enough tickets for us?" Tomas teased, as he smiled amusingly, as he quickly input the text from the third email. It detected a switch in encryption, and Tomas tried a couple of passwords... But neither of them worked. Tomas sighed, as he absentmindedly attempted a password or two more... And then frowned at the screen when 'Azuril' worked. He didn't even spell it right, and it popped up a decryption... Which led to different code, as the encryption changed again. Tomas frowned, and had a bad feeling, as he attempted the password again...

I expect code to be cracked easily, hence the usage of algorithm x5-C2. This will be in JL-57 instead, but remain with X5-C2 for this communication. It is intended that Tomas accurately read this from "Veronica's" email. We want him here.

-Noël

Sally batted her eyes at him. "You don't want to share a seat?"

OOC: Asexual people can still enjoy cuddling. :P

Tomas chuckled.
"Well, if you can manage to convince the nice people running the airport to allow us to share a seat with just one ticket, then that's fine by me." Tomas said with a smile, as he glanced over at the decoded email, quickly reading it before backspacing it out.
I don't want to worry Sally, but... This definitely is unnerving me a little bit. How do these people know me,and what do they want with me? Are we just walking into a trap...?

The bellhop glared at them, then ushered them into a limo, which took them to a luxurious hotel.

"Seems like our best bet right now." Tomas said with a nod, as he frowned slightly.
I'd go with my cover name, but everyone here except Bandages had to have heard it... Tomas thought, and frowned a bit more.
"My name is Tomas Hikari, and this is my fiance, Sally Finch." Tomas said, though he still continued to think.
This situation reminds me a lot of the last time... Is this how that guy's planning to make Sally turn evil again...? I don't like this at all... Tomas thought, annoyed at the fact that he walked into such an obvious trap.

Tomas didn't really let it show, but already he was processing the information, and recalling different things.
Nalle Pines... 'NP'. Now that's a coincidence and a half, if that's not really her. Tomas thought, as he also noted that she just so happened to be interacting with him right before the trap was set.
And I don't know how Sally was captured either. Hmm... Tomas thought, very skeptical of her, but decided to play nice for now.
Noel... That reminds me of that one message. A Noel sent that too. And this girl speaks Italian... Again with the coincidences? But this one could be real... What is going on, though? Tomas turned his attention to Bandages, in confusion.
"Number 16?" Tomas repeated, unsure what he meant.

Lights above three doorways activated, one red, one blue, one green.

(Sixteen): "Our most logical course of action would seem to be to play along. No doubt our captor will punish us if we resist, and we may find some clues if we follow their instructions. As far as pairs go, I can see a few possibilities. Option A, the people who know each other team up. That is to say, Noël and Nalle will be team 1, Tomas and Sally will be team 2, and I will go through the remaining door to meet up with our other member.
Option B, boys verses girls. I will team up with Tomas, and two of the girls will be a team, while the third girl goes through the remaining door.
Option C would be to select purely at random, which to me feels rather time consuming, but is nonetheless a possibility."

Tomas looked at Sixteen oddly, still wondering exactly who he was. However, none-the-less, Sixteen brought up a good point in general.
"Any of them seem right, though, I'd rather partner with Sally." Tomas thought for a moment after he said that.
They don't seem to know this guy any more than me or Sally... I don't know who's behind door number two, but... Tomas considered it for a moment.
"Let's go with Option A."

"Well, isn't that 'sixteen' guy absurdly suspicious? Is it really smart to do what he suggests? I mean, really. He hides his face, his name, and doesn't answer any questions. Plus, as far as we know, none of us know him. Ten to one he's working with whoever grabbed us."

"He does seem suspicious." Tomas admitted, but frowned.

She nodded. "I suppose so. On the other hand, if everyone paired with someone they didn't know, it would be a good check against any treachery, if each member of a pair was equal in strength to their partner."
She returned the chocolates to her pocket. "I guess it doesn't matter right now. If he wanted that door to himself, he's already got it. let's hope he doesn't do anything to the person on the other side."

The room was decorated to look like a miniature movie theater. A popcorn stand was in one corner. In the far side of the room was a large television screen. Five red chairs were set against the wall. Nicholas and Mary are meeting to exchange presents. They agree to meet between the hours of noon and midnight, with the minute being a multiple of ten, but after that they have difficulties. Mary refuses to meet at any odd-numbered hour except 5 and 9. Nicholas refuses any hour divisible by 3 or 4. Both agree that noon and midnight are out, to avoid the confusion of two 12s. Mary is a night owl, and prefers the latest time that both are willing. Nicholas would prefer to be in bed by 9:30.

After agreeing on the hour, there is the issue of minutes. While they agree that the minute should end in a '0', the tens place causes them some conflict (though they both agree that the tens place should be greater than 0). Mary considers the number 4 unlucky due to an incident with a gorilla that she would prefer not to discuss. Nicholas would rather just get it all over with already, and prefers an earlier time. Mary prefers an even number, but is alright with 3. Nicholas would rather not have anything that has an even-numbered square.
Before a slapfight breaks out, perhaps you should tell them when to meet.

Noël nodded.

On the left side of the room was a large desk with three drawers. Each drawer was locked, and had an image above it - a circle for the first, a square for the second, and a star for the third. A box was on the desk.

On the right side was a series of wind chimes, all different sizes.

And on the ceiling was an image of a little girl walking along a field, with a small lamb by her side.

The floor was covered with tiles. Each tile had either a letter or a number on it. (A-Z, 0-9).

On one was  was a framed blank sheet of paper. The frame had a keyhole on it.

On another wall was a scroll, which read as follows:
"I am that which most desire, but few find. I am in your heart, but more in your mind. Many dream of me, but those that do find me are jaded by it. I never live up to the ideal, so take what you can get.

People die for me (stupid people), others see me as flawless (as if). They think flowers can buy me, or sweet poems,
But they can't buy what doesn't exist.
What am I?"

(Nalle): "...wow. I think I know that, but geez is that a cynical riddle if I'm correct."

"Suppose you were given a button. If you pushed it, you would be guaranteed wealth, a long life, and friends who care for you. But for every hour you live after pressing the button, a child somewhere in the world will die. Maybe they would have died anyway, maybe not. Amy seemed a bit surprised at the question, and mulled it over for a moment, but nodded and answered 'yes' as well.

Nalle pressed "No".

(Rosie): "Okie-dokie, go on to the next room!"

The door opened. Before any of them could move, however, a sharp buzzing noise filled the air, and all three of them were hit with another electrical zap, more painful that the previous one.

The next room had what seemed to be a pair of electric chairs, and one normal chair with a trio of buttons on it. A turned off television screen was in the end of the room.

The television turned on as a set of handcuffs locked Tomas into his seat.
"Hi hi hi, party people! This is a very simple game! I ask you a series of questions, and Tommygun and the Brainless Beauty will each come up with an answer! Cotton candy will then hit the button for the chair whose answer she thinks is right, or press BOTH buttons if the thinks both of you are wrong!
If she presses wrong, Tommygun and BB both get a zap! Whee!"

The other team's door finally opened. Sally came out first, then Noel, then 16.

(Rosie): "Yeppers! And that means we can do the BONUS ROUND! Now this is SUUUPER simple! One of you gets to SKIP THE NEXT CHALLENGE! Just vote who you think deserves to skip!"

Sally smiled and gave him a thumbs up.

(Rosie): "3...2.."

(Nalle): "S-Sixteen!"

An arc of lightning hit 16 in the chest, blowing him back several feet. A door in the side of the room opened. "OK CC, go on through! See you in the next challenge! Hehe~"

Plastic fruits and sandwiches were glued to the table. There were also some knives and forks, as well as a single spoon. The spoon was magnetically attached to the table.

The drums made an odd sound when played. Something was likely inside one of the drums.
