Thankfully I've managed to avoid upgrading to Windows 10, just one more month and I'll have avoided it entirely. Half the reason I've avoided is the people who got the upgrade even after they said they didn't want it, then there's the forced updates when you have Windows 10 itself, then there's the apparent breaking of hardware drivers, meaning that doing a clean install is preferable...

I've been running Windows 10 since about the first week it launched (also had it in a VM during the beta). Never had any issues with it since it's come out only bugs I've ever got were in the beta builds. Forced updates can be avoided simply by making your connection a "metered" one in the network settings. It will always say "cannot download updates" then unless you tell it to download them. Hardware drivers all worked fine I know some had problems with the Nvidia GeForce drivers but I don't hear of anything happening with them now.

You'll have to reinstall those programs unless you have a backup of your PC's HDD/SSD. You purchased the programs so you should be able to redownload them if you login to your account on the company's website or contact their customer support. Also there's probably a list out on the internet that shows you which Windows Updates bring in the 'Upgrade to Windows 10' prompt so you can be sure to not download or uninstall them if they get downloaded, be sure to turn off auto updates ASAP.
