get the Asus Nexus 7 straight from Google. Has 4 times the CPU, a near-retina screen, and stock jellybean.

Only cons are no SD card and no video out. Since there is no SD card, you have to choose between the 8 gb version ($199) and the 16 gb version ($249). If you can afford it, I reccomend the 16 gb version.

the transformers are 10" tablets, the nexus 7 is a 7" tablet. So hard to compare.

There are only 2 transformers worth looking at, the transformer pad tf300 and the transformer infinity tf700. Both have video out and expendable storage, which the nexus 7 lacks, but come at much higher price points.

The tf300 has the same CPU and the same resolution screen as the nexus 7 (so less PPI). Pretty much its a nexus 7 in a 10" form factor. The tf700 has a better version of the processor and a glorious 1080p screen.

Regardless of how good it is though,  the tf700 is very expensive- you can buy two 16 gb nexus 7s for its price and have money left over. The  tf300 is therefore the more realistic competitor, and at that point it all boils down to whether you want a 7" or a 10" screen.

Uh oh, I think you hit mtm's berserk button.

For the record, my mom owns an iPad and it is the finest tablet I have ever used. I know mtm will go insane from hearing this, but no company makes mobile devices half as well as Apple IMO.
