Okay, well, this morning the power went out a total of three times, the longest one lasting 30 min. Now the desktop downstairs will not get to the log in screen, and it keeps saying that the System 32 file is either missing or corrupted.

I have tried restarting the computer, used F8 to reboot from last known safe point, and tried the system recovery disk, but nothing seems to work. So... any ideas?

Well, first you should just try holding down the power button until it turns off. this will reset the CMOS battery, and maybe fix the problem.

If not, ouch. I did some research, and it seems that a critical part of your Registry is gone. I'll keep looking for a fix.

EDIT: Jade, go turn on the computer that's having the problem and try to quote, word for word, the error message. it will really help me find a fix.

I think that it got damaged when the power went out, because my brother was using it at the time, and we didn't have a power surge protector hooked up. =/

Well, could you try to give me an exact quote of the error message? I need to know exactly what the error said before I can find the fix.

I think I know how to fix it, but I need to know that, as well as some other stuff, before I know for sure.

here's what I found when I searched for that:

c:\windows\system32\config\system (to c:\windows\tmp\system.bak)
c:\windows\system32\config\software (to c:\windows\tmp\software.bak)
c:\windows\system32\config\sam (to c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak)
c:\windows\system32\config\security (to c:\windows\tmp\security.bak)
c:\windows\system32\config\default (to c:\windows\tmp\default.bak)
then delete the above files (not the backups!)
then copy the above files in c:\windows\repair to the c:\windows\system32\config directory

This is assuming that windows is installed into c:\windows, so adjust as required!

restart your computer

hmmm... maybe the RAM got damaged? try removing one RAM module and trying to start the computer. if it still doesn't work, replace that RAM module and remove another. that way, if it works, you'll know that you just need new RAM.
EDIT: I think I found something!

I dunno if that'll leave your files intact or not, but it'll get you on there (unless the computer is physically damaged).

My laptop has had troubles like this recently, but it fixed itself somehow, both times it happened.

See, I thought I was using the correct disk, but after reading your post, hero, I may not be. All I know is after I tried using the disk to reboot the computer (again) I got a blue screen with an error message that had a bunch of 000's at the end.

The automated reboot process is a fail, since it asks for a floppy disk, and those haven't been around for a long time.

Sounds familiar, I've been through this before, and relax, I think I may have the answer,

Time is the key, and it's a slow recovery with windows, depending on your medical programs, (virus, spyware, etc) Last time I went through this I was able to do 2 loads of laundry and change the fuel pump in my 5-ton international deck, while checking back every now and then

Sorry I had to say that.... In all my few months with this custom made desktop of mine.... 20 Blue screen of deaths have haunted me, with no push against me and using this PC.

Two options....

A)Reformat with your original Instilation Disk or your OS
B) Get into your computer and unplug, and put back one of the cords going from the motheboard to the SATA Disk Drive... If it is your Laptop... That I don't know.

Just got it back yesterday... and everything seems to be fine, except half the hard drive was mysteriously wiped. I find it real funny that all my stuff disappeared but yet everyone else still has their files. Thankfully everything was backed up on my laptop.

Whoops. The computer must dislike you. =P And the hard drive getting partially wiped would be expected with what happened. When I just attempted to get my SNES working for LTTP(Link to the Past), and it worked, I found all my save files were wiped, so stuff can happen.
