... I doubt it would if it was released in December in theaters. Last I checked, movies stay in them for only two and a half months.

Avatar is a lot more than a movie, dude. It's more like a cult. =P If you see Avatar, you have one of three opinions of it:

1. Cultish Love. Obsessive love of the movie, fiercely defending it with shameful amounts of profanity thrown at anyone who dares insult Avatar.

2. Love. I fall into this group. I loved the movie, but I only loved it. I don't obsess over it like I do Metroid or Mario. I'd be happy if they made a sequel, but it's not like my life is totally dependent on Avatar.

3. Hate. You saw the movie, hated the messege of it, thought it was just a bunch of overrated special effects.

As you can see, Group #1 keeps this film in theaters as long as possible. Heck, it could still be in theaters next Christmas. =P

I thought the message was overplayed and irrelevant, but I loved the imagination and everything they put into creating that world.  Since the sequel(s) will need different storylines, and therefore will hopefully not have an unnecessary agenda, I will look forward to them if they come.

Why would people hate the message that all living beings are connected and that those who seek to exploit nature rather than respect it will only destroy themselves?  This one is a call for spirituality and a more harmonious way of life with nature, not paganism.  I hope the message doesn’t get drowned out by the excellent special effects. That would be a shame.

I totally agree with MsRR here. The fact being, is reflecting the very nature of how humans desire anything they want, and then they take whatever they want for granted. This reflects how humans are destroying other habitats, and is a reason why many many animal speieces are thrown out of thier homes because of deforestation. Spieces are being close to extinction because of many human activity, and if this continues, it will doom them. Why is it necessary that what we want just like a mineral, we have to take with force? While other animals have to work harder and harder and innevitably die, because of our selfish needs, for things like diamonds and oil, instead of going for renewable energy, or something that can last forever without depletion.

Maybe the fact remains.... It's human nature, that we are the chosen people, the dominant species isn't it? That all the Earth's resources belongs to us, because we own it, and because we can take out other spieces out, because they are in our way, of having ourselves our pencil for school, or our food of fishes, and etc.

But other than Environmental, There is one other thing... that did struck me, the fact of how many people say that the Bush Administration commited the Iraq War for Oil? Or how America was founded in the territory of the native americans? Stealing land for either territory or resources? This is reflecting ourselves, the quest for sustainabilty for our economy, is what drives us to the ultimate fate, of war, suffering, and destruction. It makes me sad that all of these things... why can't other speices have our equality. Or is it because of the arrogance, to become in a place of superiority.

You find me an animal that can explain to me the topology of the real numbers and I'll understand giving that species our equality.  In the meantime, I'll continue caring about animals and plants, but not to the point that they take precedence the sensible use of the earth's resources.  By sensible of course, I don't mean the kind of deforestation in Cuba or the ridiculous pollution in China.

The problem here is that in the movie, the humanoid forms present on the planet the humans were attempting to mine were intelligent and they had their environment, which was interactive on a much different level than ours is, figured out completely.  You can't compare destroying a flourishing society of intelligent people interconnected with nature for a $billion/ounce rock to taking too much oil out of the ground, regardless of the stupidity of using oil in this day and age.  And you can't compare the Na'vi to the native Americans, because we aren't told the Na'vi warred with each other and killed off the people who were there before them, as did the native Americans, and the native Americans' ideas about spirituality have not been proven where the Na'vi's were.

Trying to use this movie to say much more than the point MsRR brought out, "a call for spirituality and a more harmonious way of life with nature," is invalid.  That point, I'm all for.  Bush is a moron, America is terrible, etc, those are irrelevant, regardless of how true they may be.  If Cameron was trying to say that, his analogies failed him.

Yeah it's fine.  It might be a bit intense for younger people though.

CRX, what is your age recommendation for the movie??
I trust your judgment more than I do the ratings system.

I'd probably agree with the rating system on 13+, maybe 14+.  The army dude curses a bit, there's some sensuality cuz the blue women are hot, and the violence is somewhat intense in a couple places, so those things should be taken into consideration.

Lol, the blue women are hot? Maybe that scene with the main character and the main naavi woman too, that might be cause for a 14= age limit. I think I agree with CRX though...Lol

You do have a point.... I seem to qualify for all those except for living in a enourmous tree. My tree is only 500m tall.
