Spam, which stands for Stupid Pointless Annoying Messages, is one of the most common offenses made on every forum. As the name implies, spam are deliberately or unknowingly posted messages that include, but are not restricted to, off-topic material, advertisements,  Smiley - only posts,  Smiley > words posts, leet, and gibberish. Spam creates a negative environment, takes up forum bandwidth, and is highly discouraged.

Off-Topic Material

The name speaks for itself, off-topic material are posts that do not contribute at all to a particular topic. For example, if a topic was about LEGO Star Wars sets, and someone posted a post entirely about water bottles, then it would be counted as spam.

In addition to this, posts that say that someone is doing something unlawful is spam itself. If someone posted "spammy" message, or a message that violates one of the forum rules, then there is no need to say so out loud, simply report the message by hitting the "report" button located on the upper right-hand side of the post, or PM the forum moderator so that they can remove the post.

Advertisements

Posts that advertise anything, is spam too. Unless if the topic is about advertising things. Like the former, if someone is advertising anything in a post, then please report it.

Smiley - Only Messages

This isn't an official name, but posts like:

Quote
Sad Shocked Huh? Roll Eyes Embarrassed Grin Grin Cheesy Roll Eyes

are spam. These posts are completely useless and do nothing whatsoever to benefit the forum. Not only is it useless, but it is annoying. Very annoying.

Smiley > Words Messages

Similar to the prior, with one difference:

Quote
i like legos Shocked Angry Angry Cheesy Wink Smiley Lips Sealed Cry Kiss Undecided Cool Shocked Sad Angry Roll Eyes Tongue Embarrassed Lips Sealed Lips Sealed Sad Grin Grin Cheesy Sad Sad Huh? Roll Eyes Lips Sealed

As you can see, this post actually has words in it, but is almost entirely made up of emoticons. Nonetheless, it's spam.

Leet

Informally known as "1337", or "l33t", leet is the usage of chat lingo, used in chat programs like AIM. It's also the usage of numbers replacing letters, like "l33t". It's most often hard to decipher, to the point where it's incomprehensible. It's okay to do it sometimes, just to add a little spice to a conversation so to speak, but it most definitely should not be used on a daily basis.

Gibberish

Very simple.

Quote
ajskdl;faksdjf;laksdjf;lakdsjf;lakdjf;la
Quote
brakelatabasaasta feed me Roll Eyes

Posts like these will be removed on sight.

One Word Posts

If you post in a topic, and the only thing you say is only a single word, that's considered Spam.
