Interestingly, most EU stuff was non-canon at one point. There appears to be an arbitrary line that people draw to say something is "canon" or "not." Just look at how Leia said she remembered her mother in Ep. VI, but obviously couldn't according to Ep. III. So don't worry about canon too much, because it's not like it's consistent anyway. Personally, I hate about 90% of EU anyway.
