The American Grading System is a far cry from yours...
It goes from A,B,C,D, and F, where A is the highest and F is the lowest.
And then, a +, -, or nothing is assigned to each letter not F.
So from best to worst grades, it goes A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, F
From 0-100%, certain number ranges are assigned to the letters.
98-100 is an A+, 97-92 is A, 91 and 90 is an A-.
So + > nothing > -
Similar patterns occur with B,C,D, and F.
B - 80s range
C - 70s range
D - 60s range
F - 59 or lower
At this point in my life, it is near impossible to achieve an A+ in my school (Grade

, unless you're ub3r smart.
Oh, and the class system in America is:
K-5
6-7
8-9
10-12
College
OR
K-6
7-8
9-10
11-12 <-- I think.
College
Whew. Long text block.
@MsRR - History is okay for me now... Just substitute English in for History in your post and that's me. =P
