Whenever I download a file, after the download reaches 100% a window pops up that says "Preparing to Copy..."
That window. Stays. Up. FOREVER.  And if I try to close it, IE freezes, hangs, and the file isn't on my computer.

USB:
2.0 device/cable can go inside 3.0 port, 3.0 device/cable cannot go inside 2.0.

look. the (damaged) blue one is 3.0



its physically larger. Here's USB-B and Micro USB. The 3.0 version are in blue



as you can see, there's no way to fit a new cable into an old port, because they purposefully made them too big. However, all your existing 2.0 stuff will still be able to plug into your new 3.0 ports. They just won't have 3.0 speeds.

Huh. Well that's definitely different. I haven't actually seen a USB 3.0 cord before; in fact, I only just found out about 3.0 last week.

That's definitely different from the 1.0 to 2.0 switch...

Then what I suspected was right, someone WAS trying to trick people with no USB 3.0 port into buying that external disk with USB 3.0, as it said that one could use a USB 3.0 with a USB 2.0 port but with 2.0 speeds...

@ raks = yep. 3.0 not only can transfer more information, it also draws more power than 2.0. so, by trying to use 3.0 in a 2.0 slot you won't have enough power to run - it'll just break it.

Also, that means, for example, a smartphone with micro USB 3.0 could charge/transfer really fast, but could still use 2.0 cables if no 3.0s were available.
