Admittedly I've only played Deus Ex 1 but it's worth the price of admission alone (I hear DX3 is just as good, but it won't run well on my computer, and I hate DX2 but ah well).

Why is Deus Ex so great? The story and the choices. It's a well-written and mature tale about things like classism, government, terrorism, rebellion, and so on. It kept me engaged from the moment they said "go" to the moment the credits rolled. And the gameplay is neat, too - the shooting isn't as good as Half-Life, and the stealthing isn't on MGS level, but the neat thing is that you can do all of it as you please. And there's a lot of subtle choices in the game, including several where you may not even realize you do have a choice! There are so many times when I thought "there is no way they will let me do this" and it turned out that yes, they will let me do this!

To quote Yahtzee (and agreeing with this man is not something I do often, so this should make you listen): "I don't see how these days you could have a game with nearly as much depth and complexity as Deus Ex 1. And before all you people who like The Witcher 2 start pounding your keyboards so hard that it starts snowing Cheeto dust, I meant the kind of complexity that I like: A plot where people can reference philosophy and G. K. Chesterton in really really bad accents, and it has an intuitive inventory system, and a health system where you can get all your arms and legs blown off and have to slither over to a health station using only your lips."

I still hate it for all the alternate versions. I refuse to buy a game that keeps releasing minor updates and making us pay full price for the new version of the game.

I will admit I enjoyed playing the DSiWare version, though. Never did beat Cave Story 3D.

So apparently my computer decided to pick something nasty up from somewhere.  I suspect it had to do with a bad link in the Irregular Webcomic! archives.  So now I basically don't have a computer (since I don't feel safe posting from this one unless I absolutely have to).  The strip in question was part of the "Martians" theme, the annotation was a rant about [Citation Needed] tags.  If someone can find that (BUT NOT CLICK THE LINK) and notify the comic author, that'd be awesome.

Apparently, my main computer had a pop-up after the force reboot that said "your copy of Windows is invalid."  Yeah.  So I have no computer for the first whole weekend of the semester.  Or longer.  And I've rediscovered how little most people at school actually care about me (hint: if I randomly died no one would really notice, unless maybe if I was the victim of a serial killer or something, and even then it'd only be the two or so people who actually watch the news), although most of the teachers are really nice and there ARE two or three students who would notice and care (plus one more who doesn't really have time for me, but knowing them they would have a TOTAL guilt trip because of that if something ever happened), so it's not TOO bad I guess, but still.  Gawd my life is sucking ATM.  (I guess the "secondary character" deal isn't quite working out as planned.  I need to look up more secondary character tropes so I can try and invoke them, particularly if they make my life a little easier and/or happier.)

Still, if I can make it two more weeks, I may be able to get into an Iron Kingdoms RPG gaming group, which'll be a HUUUUUUUGE step for me.  (For one thing, I may actually have a/some friend(s) whose HOUSE I visit regularly!  Le gasp!  Yes, that's a huge deal for me, I've only had that kind of friend about twice in my life.  And I'm 21.  Not exactly optimal.)

Also random thoughts from like a month back: alcohol tastes awful, why do humans even drink this stuff?!  Seriously.
