The card tournament is fast approaching.
Plans for intermission commentary: weather

Yeah those deadlines have a way of sneaking up on you. I just finished midterms; feels like I just started. I've got 2 universities that I keep swapping. I left the one because the financial aid department harassed me, so I left for a semester and when I came back, they harnessed me again. Even more. So now I hate my first university's guts.
I had an idea for using electro magnetism for buffering the area of air around a vehicle and making it ionized to repel the air around the car. You'd have zero wind resistance if you managed to reduce the actual air around a vehicle in the first place, but I e never figured out how you'd do something like that. Good food for thought, perhaps.
Sneaky, sneaky deadlines @_@
That's a total bummer man, sad to hear. Universities definitely seem to be businesses with little regard for the "customers" now.

I haven't read much into it but it's apparently possible to create hover cars using electromagnetism. The downfall and inherent impracticality is that the cars would attract one another.

Every once in a while one of our professors sends us articles. Sometimes the articles are about technology utilizing stuff relative to what we're learning, and sometimes it's just really cool, inspiring stuff. I don't have that professor ATM, but will again in the Fall Smiley

What are the weekend plans, my good sir?

Hmmmm...

Yeah that's always a good icebreaker. Unless it becomes the main conversation. Then it's just a little boring, and the fact that either you have nothing in common with the other person, or there is no imagination taking place. Tongue

Yeah, there has been a definite trend in recent years, gearing universities towards nothing more than businesses that crank out stereotypically educated people. Universities used to be where you went if you wanted to learn how to think. Now, it seems like it's just a place where you go if you want a better job. Well, or a job period, for many fields. Nothing wrong with that at all, I just don't like how the universities are operating. Personally, even if I don't use my degree, I'll still be glad I got it, because I just enjoy learning. 'Course, if I don't get a job, my student loan servicer could get antsy! @_@
Hoverers sound pretty sweet. Maglev trains use the same concept and are super-fast because they have no friction. I thought about forced-air cars, but that's just regular hover craft, and they're noisy and they blow dust everywhere. Sad
I have no weekend plans, as I have a blaring cold and have been doing nothing since Friday, except this, and watching TV and playing video games. *sneeze* Argh. You?

It's just to get the degree it seems. Especially with so many online resources, there doesn't seem to be much else of a reason. But having past pros teach and guide you is super helpful, so IDK.
I will be at a card game tournament for most of the weekend. And I'll always make time to play smash bros; the fun times are endless Cheesy
What're the good shows these days? Smiley

What do people talk about at lunch and between classes???

Get tables near the cafeteria entrance and play the "guess how much debt that one has" game. =P

We usually just talk about how we're doing a project/what trouble we're having, what games we've been playing, what we did the other day.

Well on the other hand, slides about tornados could get pretty interesting. Or instead of the weather you could throw some climate change stuff around - sure way to get some polarized discussions going. Evil
SO what exactly is a card tournament? Is it like pro level of, I don't know, crazy 8s, and then the winner gets to beat the other player up? Or something more civilized? Tongue

People need to stop thinking of politics as this black-and-white Left-versus-Right thing. That's a huge oversimplification and it completely ignores that people can think different things about different things. Especially on the extremist ends, who are by far the most guilty of thinking that way in my experience.

First goal: get some cybernetic eyes and digestive system. My eyes suck and having better eyes would be nice. Having a more efficient digestive system would be nice too, as well as one that wouldn't trigger allergic reactions. Maybe some cybernetic enhancements to the brain. More processing power would be nice, assuming I retain my human qualities and don't become an unfeeling robotic machine like science fiction likes to do with things cybernetic in origin.

I'll take some cybernetic eyes as well - I need to go get a different pair of glasses, because I've only had these about 5 years but my vision is going blurry at long-range again. Rats. I think that's all I'd need, which is great, but I'd like better math processing abilities, because currently math is not my forte.

Getting glasses scares me, but I suppose it's only a matter of time cool Kind of strange though, since I'm used to this vision and I'm sure I won't notice any gradual change, IDK how I'll know it's deteriorating. I suppose that's what chck-ups are for =/

Tongue

We just muted the stream in between rounds. Not my decision, but the tournament organizers didn't want the chatter in between rounds to be heard. Understandable since many players get carried away with their expressions after a loss =P

Poker tournaments are definitely a thing, but I was commentating a strategy card game, the likes of Magic the Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Pokemon. I ended up trying them all out but stuck with pokemon due to the incredibly cheap cards and friendly community. A competitive pokemon deck is like $50-$150, a competitive Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh deck can branch into thousands of dollars Cry
No one gets beaten up, but we do get unreasonably angry =P When you can't see your opponent's hand, it's easy to blame things on luck even when you actually got completely outplayed. But we all go out to eat together afterwards, discuss strategies, funny matches, and just enjoy the company. The community is something else Cheesy
One kid ended up loosing his deck. Players immediately took the kids written out deck list and replaced it card for card without question. Just a bunch of people gathering to offer what they could to help a kid who ran into some misfortune. This is the first time a deck has been completely lost or stolen in our community. I didn't know how the community would react, but I don't think you could ask for anything better Grin

Anyhow, commentating that tournament was enjoyable and it was good to see some familiar faces. One guy ended up having a seizure though; definitely a frightening experience! I can hardly imagine what that was like.
