In retrospect, the special lessons given to those my various schools deemed 'high achievers' really does not sit well with me. Those are the kinds of people that are going to succeed no matter what, and the staff chooses to help them when they could be helping the people who actually need the help. You don't need to help the people at the top, you should be helping the people at the bottom!

There is tutoring and whatnot. TBH, struggling students should go to the teacher rather than vice-versa. The amount of "struggling" students who refuse to seek help is what's sad; it seems that, most of the time, the student actually doesn't care to improve.

Not everyone is as gifted as you. People are different mentally. What may come to you in five seconds, may come to others in five hours. Days, even.

There are those who are less gifted than average. I had a friend like that. Capable, but needed some support quite often or he would seriously struggle. Abusing-himself level of struggling.

Mak is struggling with some of his HS classes. He doesn't want to ask for help because he doesn't want anyone to know he is struggling.

I'm a decently gifted mathematical thinker, but I've struggled plenty, and when I struggle I seek help. In college I couldn't grasp the process of derivation for an extremely long time. I asked classmates and teachers, spent extra time in the books, and figured it out. You can't just quit because you "naturally" didn't get something.

Mak is struggling with some of his HS classes. He doesn't want to ask for help because he doesn't want anyone to know he is struggling.

He should be asking for help, there's no shame in educating yourself. If he's afraid his friends will make fun of him for it, then he should find better friends TBH. Sad

And support can just make them understand it? No. Doesn't work like that. You're still assuming everyone is of an equal level when it comes to intelligence, or is like you. That is most certainly not the case.

Most if not all of his friends from the Waldorf school went to other schools. He got into Benson Polytechnic.  It's an entirely different environment, one the Waldorf school did not prepare him for.

The single greatest failure of our educational system ( and likely yours) is teaching the subject and not the students as if all people learned alike.  EVEN if all had equal intelligence and no issues, we all process material differently. (Seeing, reading, hearing, doing, etc)  Add in the many issues that exist in our world today and the failure escalates..  Now add in an unequal level of ability... and we are failing out future.

People learn differently, exactly.

My friend wasn't the sort of person who learned by hearing, reading, or writing, which was pretty much what most of our learning was done through.

I had a dream last night. The first dream I can recall to a decent standard, ever. Unfortunately, I didn't understand because, despite not knowing Spanish, people were speaking Spanish in said dream.  Speaking of foreign languages, if you ever go to  place where they speak a different language, at least learn whatever phrase is the equivalent of 'I don't speak [language]' or '[Language] is not my first language, sorry'. Like 'je ne parle pas francais'.

I believe you misinterpreted my point. I am not assuming everyone is on an equal level. My main point is that whatever someone falters with, they should work on and seek help for.
Unless someone has a mental illness, it's impossible for someone to be unable to learn something. It is possible for someone to give up on learning something.

@MsRR: school transfers can be rough, but I don't entirely understand what would be preventing Mak from seeking help. I suspect it's much more complicated of a situation than what it seems to be to me ATM Sad

Yes, everyone learns differently. Ideally students would be taught things one on one so that a teacher could cater to the student's learning style and pace. However this is completely impossible with today's schools. If you are struggling learning something, you must take the initiative and meet with the teacher or a classmate in order to achieve that environment.

That being said, there are many different forms of learning, but just because someone favors one type does not mean it is impossible for them to learn through another.

Kinetic learning is my least developed learning form (according to the tests, if you put any weight in those). However, I need to learn many things kinetically in my major. Sometimes a classmate will understand something in 5 minutes while it takes me days to grasp the concept, but that's okay with me. I'm not saying it isn't frustrating, but I'm not going to give up studying what I love just because it is difficult.

No creativity allowed. No thinking allowed. No deviating from the standard procedures. You MUST follow the instructions given to you by the leader and never, ever consider a contradictory thought. Contradictory thoughts are treason. Treason results in execution.

AWWWW YISSS THIS NUMBER TOOOOOO Cheesy sweatdrop

If a friend is willing to ostracise you because of a simple disagreement, are they truly a friend?

The quick answer is, no, however...
"Simple" is relative man. Eating pork doesn't mean a whole lot to most people, but to others it's against their religion.
Communication is key; have to understand the other's perspective.
