K then.

BLAZIKEN!!!

Type: FIRE/FIGHTING
Ability: Blaze - When this Pokemon has 1/3 HP remaining or less, its Fire move's power is increased by 50%
Stats:

HP         80
Atck       120
Def        70
Sp. Atck 115
Sp. Def   70
Speed    80

Author's Opinion: This may look like an inferior Infernape, but it has some few things that Infernape doesn't have. It has access to Reversal, which combined with a Focus Sash and a Salac Berry is a nasty combination. He also packs Agility to make up for its OK speed, as well as Baton Pass to pass the boosts on.

Recommended Movesets:

Nature: Jolly
Item: Choice Band/Scarf
EVs: 4 HP/252 Attack/252 Speed
~ Flare Blitz
~ Superpower/Brick Break/Sky Uppercut
~ Thunder Punch
~ Stone Edge

It's a Choice Band/Scarf set. What else? It just hits hard. Fun fact: Choice Banded Flare Blitz can score an OHKO on Skarmory, the best Physical Wall in the OU metagame. Earthquake is also an option to use.

Nature: Adamant
Item: Life Orb
EVs: 140 HP/252 Attack/116 Speed (with Agility)
       4 HP/252 Attack/252 Speed (with Swords Dance)
~ Flare Blitz
~ Agility/Swords Dance
~ Superpower
~ Thunder Punch/Stone Edge/Earthquake/Baton Pass

Agility can help you outrun base 120 Speed Pokemon as well as Scarfed 100's. Swords Dance is there for increasing Attack power. And then sweep. You can also Baton Pass to another Sweeper for the boost.

Alternate Moves:
Reversal and Substitute make a nasty combination. Depending on the boosting moves, you will want to use a Salac or Liechi berry.

Countering Blaziken:
I just use too much Smogon don't I?

Anyway, Starmie, Gyarados, and Slowbro can wall its STAB Attacks, and can hit back with Surf/Waterfall. Tread carefully with Thunder Punch, and that means you, Gyarados.

Suicune is an exception, since Thunder Punch will still fail to OHKO.

Salamence walls it, but be careful of Stone Edge.

Hippowdon, Gliscor, and Donphan can counter any set without Special Attacks.

*still can't decide between Dusknoir and Hippowdon*

At least the Battle of the Budews has been postponed to next week...i have more time to prepare.

Eh, I'll go with Dusknoir. True, it has worse HP, but Hippowdon is only good with Physical attacks. Just by looking at the Base Stat breakdown...

Dusknoir                         Hippowdon
HP-45                            HP-108
ATK-100                         ATK-112
DEF-135                         DEF-118
SP.ATK-65                      SP.ATK-68
SP.DEF-135                     SP.DEF-72
SPD-45                           SPD-47

AS you can see, there only major differences are in SP.DEF and HP. IMO, for a staller, Defense and Special Dfense are more important than HP.

Now...anyone have suggestions for it? I'm going to teach it mostly physical and annoyers attacks (will-o' wisp has to be in there somewhere), but for an EV set all i know is that I'm maxing out HP.

If it's Dusknoir, you'll want a Tank setup. Wink

Item: Leftovers
Nature: Impish
Moveset
~ Will-O-Wisp
~ Pain Split
~ Earthquake / Fire Punch
~ Ice Punch / ThunderPunch
EVs: 252 HP / 28 Atk / 228 Def

All from Smogon.

Do you have a male Misdreavus?

That's what you need for Dusknoir to learn Pain Split.

And it is easier if you have one with good Defense/Special defense/HP IVs...

Nature doesn't even matter, since it is a male, and Everstones so not work on Males. [/duh]

I have fully EV trained 4 of the six members of my team. And I just need to find the right 6th member for my team. There'll be a bit of overlapping on my team, sadly, and I'm kinda afraid of fire types(although having my lead start out with Stealthrock would help).

What's a good moveset for Scisor, Adamant Nature w/ Technician?

Quoted from Smogon.

Name “It’s a Trap!”
Item: Life Orb / Expert Belt
Ability: Technician
Nature: Adamant
Moveset
~ Pursuit
~ U-turn
~ Roost
~ Bullet Punch
EVs 176 HP / 100 Atk / 176 SpD / 56 Spe

Scizor is a perfect choice for a Pokémon that can put its opponents into a checkmate position. With Technician, Pursuit becomes a 60 base power move if the opponent decides to stay and fight. If the opponent decides to flee, Pursuit’s base power will double from 40 to 80. This set is tailored for the Uber environment where many of the physically frail Psychic-types are either hit hard by U-turn when staying in or Pursuit when attempting to escape. In the OU environment, this set is capable of handling threats such as Gengar, Starmie, and Celebi.

The given EVs allows Scizor a balance of offense and defense. With the Special Defense EVs, Scizor has the ability to switch into Dragon and Dark Pulses from Latias and Darkrai, respectively. Scizor must be aware of Latias in the rain as a boosted Thunder will 2HKO Scizor. With only one weakness, it is easy for Scizor to step into many of these threats and force them to switch out. This makes Roost an excellent option to recover damage from switching in and out or from constant Life Orb recoil. The 100 Attack EVs will OHKO standard Mewtwo, Latias, and Darkrai most of the time with U-turn unless they invest a ridiculous amount of EVs in their HP and Defense stats. Bullet Punch will hamper not only Deoxys-A, but also Darkrai since it resists Pursuit anyway. On top of that, a 379 HP / 216 Def Rayquaza suffers 36 – 43% from Scizor’s Bullet Punch, or a 95% chance of a 2HKO with Stealth Rock taken into account. Finally, the Speed EVs will outpace and trap Shedinja before it can attempt to use Will-O-Wisp (provided that Shedinja lacks its Focus Sash beforehand).

Life Orb is the best item for this set. It guarantees the OHKOs and 2HKOs listed above. If the recoil from Life Orb is a problem, Expert Belt is a fine option to remedy it. Unfortunately, not many Pokémon are hit for super effective damage from Bullet Punch. The only residual damage Scizor should really worry about is indirect damage from Stealth Rock and Spikes or Hail.

Cool. I'll look around Smogon a bit, since this one seems to be mostly for Uber, although still effective in Standard. So far I have a lv 70 Scyther with Swords Dance, Agility, Night Slash and X-Scissor.

True, Typhlosion has a weak movepool, but still. =P

I just noticed something:
Diamond = Dialga
Pearl = Palkia
Platinum =/= Giratina

Something's wrong with that setup =P

because Ducky said so =P

My first Pokemon was a Treecko. MY first game was Ruby. I now prefer Fire Types, but i know deep down I'm a grass type trainer. Even though i deny it. Anyway, the aformentioned Treecko was one of two Pokemon i got to level 100- although the other was Rayquaza, who sorta doesn't count.

Anyway, enough of my nostalgic ramblings..

I could use a Feraligatr analysis actually. I've already picked him as my starter for SS. Coincidentaly, in SS i can get the Mascot for my first Pokemon game.

BTW, is making Heracross part of my team in SS a bad idea? His movepool put him above most fighting types IMO, but I'm not sure if there's a better choice...

I've been wondering, is there a rule on PP-Up/PP-Max in any tier?

The real beauty of Heracross is how its attacks work. It has horrible Sp. Atk, but doesn't learn any level up moves that are special. You can totally ignore SP. Atk.

I don't think there are PPMax limits. If you own Emerald and don't use all of your PPMax' before the Battle Tower you can get unlimited amounts, and I don't see why you wouldn't be allowed PPMax usage on teams. There aren't many moves that actually need it much, mostly Extreme Speed, Dynamicpunch, Stone Edge and in Ubers Spacial Rend maybe...

You can usually ignore 1 atk method on any pokemon. Scisor and Porygon-Z come to mind. Both have sky highatk and spatk respectively, but their other attaking stat is mediocre. Infernape and Lucario are mixed sweepers, so they can be either. Same goes for defence most of the time(Blissey and Steelix anyone?), although defence is usually more rounded IMO.

Feraligatr rules!  Typhlosion drools! Tongue  Totodile was my first ever Pokemon.

Hey!  Tongue
I like Typhlosion!!!*sniff* Since he has hurt me by poking fun at Typhlosion, I'll make Typhlosion feel better by doing a review of him first.

Nah. I like Feraligatr too.  Smiley But Typhlosion got a bost in the 4th Gen too D=. And he asked first, so...

I finally beat Cynthia, and the double team of Volkner and *forgets name* the fire guy.

Ronald McDonald. XD

@SH and DT - PPMaxing moves is legal  Wink

Type: WATER
Ability: Torrent - When this Pokemon has 1/3 HP remaining or less, its Water move's power is increased by 50%
Stats:

HP         85
Atck       105
Def        100
Sp. Atck 79
Sp. Def   83
Speed    78

Author's Opinion: This may look like an inferior Gyarados, but don't underestimate it. Unlike Gyarados, it has Swords Dance, as well as Torrent, making it a nasty sweeper if played correctly.

Recommended Movesets:

Nature: Adamant/Jolly
Item: Life Orb/Leftovers
EVs: 4 HP/252 Attack/252 Speed
~ Dragon Dance
~ Waterfall/Aqua Tail
~ Ice Punch
~ Earthquake/Crunch

It's the Gyarados-Mimic of the Dragon Dance set. If you are using this set, I would go with Gyarados, since he is more threatening with this set. But you can still use it if you want.  Wink Aqua Tail has more power, but less accuracy, while Waterfall has a 20% Flinch rate and 100% accuracy, but less power. Crunch gets rid of Celebi and Cresselia as well as takes on walling Grass types and Dragon types.

Nature: Jolly
Item: Life Orb/Leftovers
EVs: 4 HP/252 Attack/252 Speed
~ Swords Dance
~ Waterfall/Aqua Tail
~ Ice Punch
~ Earthquake/Crunch

This set is what sets Feraligatr from Gyarados. Swords Dance can multiply its Attacking power by x2, resulting in a nasty sweep. I personally like this set more than the Dragon Dance one, but you must have a Jolly nature to make up the speed loss.

Nature: Jolly/Adamant
Item: Liechi Berry/Salac Berry
EVs: 4 HP/252 Attack/252 Speed
~ Swords Dance/Dragon Dance
~ Waterfall
~ Substitute
~ Flail

Assuming Feraligatr has 31 IVs in HP and 4 EVs in HP, its Substitutes are enough for 3 Substitutes, leaving exactly 25% health, as well as a Berry boost. It also is handy for Flail.

Countering Feraligatr:
Bulky Grass types such as Leafeon and Tangrowth can wall its Ice Punches.

Beware phazers, as they can roar away stat boosts. This includes Skarmory and Suicune.

Abomasnow, Hippowdon, and Tyranitar can switch in on a boosted Waterfalls and Flails respectively. The weather effects will wear down the Substitutes and eventually Feraligatr's own HP. If your name is Abomasnow, watch out for the occasional Rock Slide as well as Waterfall if you are Hippowdon or Tyranitar.

A Jolteon's Thunderbolt will OHKO Feraligatr and will completely outspeed Feraligatr even with a Dragon Dance boost (Jolly +1 Speed Feraligatr will outspeed it though). Gyarados can wall him well, but beware Rock Slide.
