Yep, those are good sprites. Can't wait until Nintedno calls him out for copyright infringment and uses those sprites in Pokemon Extrusive/Rock versions. =P

Piplup's good, but as Twi said, he's not that great against the second gym... Which is Grass. I'd suggest Chimchar; got my through Diamond okay. Or Turtwig. 'course, if you have access to Wi-Fi, then once you get past the first gym we could swap Friend Codes and I could trade over the starters you don't have. =)

Sweet, 'k. Just remember that if you don't have certain badges, and your traded Pokemon are over certain levels, it may not listen to the commands.

Since he is not here, what Pokemon are you going to use for your team? I can tell you whether a Pokemon is better or is it a good choice, and the preferred moveset in-game.

Make sure that your Pokemon do not overlap types. For example, if I have a Shinx, I would not get a Raichu for that reason, as they are both Electric types.

Here is my Diamond team:
~ Empoleon
~ Roserade
~ Rapidash
~ Drifblim
~ Hippowdon
~ Lucario

Although I noticed I had two Steel types, you don't see that many Steel type Attacks. The Steel Typing serves for defensive purposes, even if Lucario is known for having low defenses. So pardon me for having two Steel types, even if I say that having two similar types is not recommended. Anyway...

The three starters for Sinnoh are, if you want to let a few spoilers...:












Turtwig (GRASS) - It evolves to Grotle (GRASS) at Level 18, and Torterra (GRASS/GROUND) at Level 32. He is the slowest of the starters, but he can take hits very well, as long as you stay away from Ice (especially!), Bug, Fire, and Flying moves. He has High HP, Attack, and Defense so you want to capitalize on those stats. When Torterra evolves, he learns the incredibly useful move Earthquake. If you have a Heart Scale, you can teach Torterra Wood Hammer to deal a bucketload of damage, at the expense of 1/3 of the damage done to the Pokemon. However, his high HP helps negate it. The Turtwig line can also learn Curse, which capitalizes Torterra's high Attack and Defense for lowered Speed, which isn't his best stat anyways. Crunch is also an option for in-game, even if Wood Hammer outpowers it despite being ineffective on certain Pokemon.


Chimchar (FIRE) - It evolves into Monferno (FIRE/FIGHTING) at Level 14 and into Infernape(FIRE/FIGHTING) at Level 36. When Chimchar finally evolves into Infernape, he has very high Speed, Attack, and Special Attack, however, his HP, Defense, and Sp. Defense is low. As a result, even an ineffective hit on Infernape can deal considerable damage. He learns Close Combat and Flare Blitz, all very good moves. He can also go to the Special side, but you will need move tutors or TMs for that. If you choose to keep Chimchar unevolved until Level 23, he can learn Nasty Plot, which boosts Infernape's Special Attack stat very high. Be sure that you have a Special move though.  

Piplup (WATER) - Evolves into Prinplup at Level 16 and Empoleon (WATER/STEEL) at Level 36. It is slow, just like Torterra, but is a bit faster. Empoleon's greatest stats are his Special Attack and Special Defense stats, and its other stats are not too shabby at all. His typing is great, resisting all types but Fire and Grass, and takes 2x damage from Electric, Ground, and Fighting. Once you have the fourth/fifth Bade, depending on version, and have reached Celestic Town, you can teach it Surf for an effective STAB move. It can also learn Drill Peck, and it's Physical Movepool isn't shabby, with several moves to back it up, such as Aqua Jet, which allows it to strike first, Brick Break, and Earthquake. The former two requires TMs. He can even learn Swords Dance to boost this already decent Attack. On the Special side, he can learn Ice Beam and Grass Knot, both good moves.  











Basically, choose Turtwig if you want to have a sturdy Tank, Chimchar if you want a Sweeper, and Piplup if you want to have a bulky sweeper.

What ever you do, though, don't challenge any of us to a battle. You'll lose terribly until you know how to make your team fully epic. =P

'k. Just remember that you have to go through 4 towns first, since there's the starting town, the lab town(Why they split it in this game is beyond me...), the GTS town, and then finally the first gym town. But that shouldn't take long.

@Red - The Pokemon you will encounter in your way to Oreburgh are:

~ Starly -
Starly (NORMAL/FLYING) --> Staravia (NORMAL/FLYING) (Lvl 14) --> Staraptor (NORMAL/FLYING) (Level 34)

Unlike Noctowl and Pidgeot(you can't find one in the game until you beat the game), all average Normal/Flying types, Starly and it's line is very unique and powerful. It learms Wing Attack at an early level, which is very powerful at this point in the game (Level 9!). Eventually, it will learn Aerial Ace, a move that never misses, and when it evolves into Staraptor, it learns Close Combat, a powerful Fighting Move that deals high damage, but lowers Defense and Special Defense. This is what sets Staraptor apart from its Normal/Flying Counterparts, as it finds a way out of being walled by Rock and Steel Pokemon. His Attack and Speed are excellent, but both his Defense stats are very low, so beware of that. 

~ Bidoof
Bidoof (NORMAL) --> Bibarel (NORMAL/WATER) (Lvl 15)

zomg Bibarel! It's Blade and Dudebot's favorite Pokemon of all time. =) On the serious side, Bibarel is just like Rattata/Sentret and stuff, right? Think deeper. Just because it has naturally poor stats, with the only decent one being Attack doesn't mean it isn't viable. It has various disruptive moves that cause havoc for the opposing team. If it is used in competitive play. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend Bidoof too much other than being an very useful HM Slave.

~ Shinx

Shinx (ELECTRIC)--> Luxio (ELECTRIC) (Lvl 15) --> Luxray (ELECTRIC) (Lvl 30)

He has good Attack, but a shallow movepool for that stat, with his strongest Electric Move being Spark. YOu can use Crunch and Return, overall, he's a decent member on your team, but there are better options. If you really want to use him, then go ahead. 

~ Kricketot

Kricketot (BUG) --> Kricketune (BUG) (Lvl 10)

When it is Kricketot, he really does not have that many moves to start out with, only having Bide and Growl. Even after he evolves, he still does not have many good moves. I highly do not recommend it on your team.
~ Budew

Budew (GRASS/POISON) --> Roselia (GRASS/POISON) (Happiness at Daytime) --> Roserade (GRASS/POISON) (Shiny Stone)

Although it is a pain to evolve, needing a certain amount of happiness, and has to level up at daytime, the results are worth it. It evolves into Roselia after the required conditions are met, and evolves after a Shiny Stone is used on it. Roserade has powerful options, with Giga Drain and Petal Dance being decent options, and Sludge Bomb is a good move to teach it to as as TM as well. I highly recommend this Pokemon, as it has a high Special Attack Stat, good Special Defense, and a decent speed stat.
 
~ Magikarp

You know how this thing works, and everybody does. Just note that some Water moves are physical now because in this generation is where several moves became Physical to Special and vice versa. So Waterfall is an option when he becomes a Gyarados.

Second gym is Grass, so I can't exactly say you'll have any major advantages going in. Try teaching your Prinplup an Ice-type move, or grab a flying type. That'll help a lot.
