Ahoy there mateys. Here's a short story I wrote in the LMB. I'll add chapters by the post. Any feedback (comments, criticism, etc.) will be heartily accepted. Enjoy!
Arr, gather round for a tale of misery and sorrow... but, in every tale of sadness, there shines a small ray of hope...
-----------
It was a dank; dark, stormy night. The lightning flashed and revealed a shady captain known as the Dark Patch. A hook extended from his right hand, long ago severed by an enemy. He wore an eye patch which gave him his cursed name. As he doggedly steered the ship onward to Cuba, his crew murmured dark thoughts of mutiny. But what did he care? He was after... the Dark Patch!
Lightning tore through the sky and tore the heavens in two as thunder rolled over the sea. The captain laughed madly and roared insults to the sky. His hardened crew stayed below decks and muttered dark things of the captain while they did their best to stay warm. Only six pirates stood above decks as they pulled on sails and fixed the ship. Usually, they'd wear ropes to keep themselves from falling off the ship but the captain had singled them out to be the master conspirators. With no mercy, he had given them no ropes and four pirates had fallen already. The captain laughed at their guts while the other six did their best to hold on to the railings.
Hours later found the nearly-destroyed ship port into Cuba. Hanging from the bow were several bodies as the pirates made their way to the shore.
The scraggly crew immediately made way to the tavern, where they could rest at ease and - for many of the crew - to find a new captain. The captain, on the other hand, went to a small unknown hut known only to the elite of pirates. He roughly nodded his head to members such as: Brickbeard, Black Brick, Bad Block, Fatal Fig, and more. He finally came up to an old, bearded man at the end of the small house and revealed two emeralds. The old pirate said, in a raspy voice, "I see you've found the legendary emerald..." "Aye, dat me did," replied Patch. He then continued, "Now t'were's me r'ward?" "Ah yes, here's you reward," the man suspiciously replied. Then, drawing an evil, jagged blade he jumped at Spot, "S'death for your troubles!" But Spot was not easily overtaken. With a scowl he dodged the blade and easily swiped it aside. He then quickly dispatched the old pirate and took his purse of gold. The other pirates had remained motionless but a few of them had hands on their swords. With a dark and dangerous growl, the Spot pushed through them. Why should he care? He had one enemy down; and two prizes for himself only.
The Black Patch left the small hut and went to his ship where the only men aboard were his steersman, first mate, and five other crew members. "Let's git the supplies den ditch the fools at the tavern," he laughed. His members all laughed with him, whether they wanted to or not. For this was his way... other than he and his seven closest, he would always ditch the crew and take on a brand new one. He never kept the same crew for long, to prevent mutiny. As four of the crew members, including the first mate, crossed the gangplank - to get supplies from the town, Patch entered his cabin and smiled. With the last of the stones in his hands, and an extra prize to boot, he was ready to retrieve the fabled... Skull's Helm.
What was this “Skull’s Helm”? It was the long-lost ship of a pirate named simply as 'Skull.' Tales had it that whoever had hold of the ship would be granted possession of all the creatures of legend. There was also a treasure of immense proportion aboard. The tale had another side however, yet to be found out by the Patch. [/i]
