I really liked Jason, but reading book two I realized how important Percy is. His strength as a central character makes me have to choose him as my fav male character, although I feel that Luke could get a cool backstory as well. Nico also gets a mention, jsut because he's affiliated with death/darkness.

As for females, Annabeth and Thalia are strong central characters, but the recent female additions in Heroes of Olympus were pretty cool as well.

 Annabeth is definitely a close second. But I like Thalia better; really couldn't tell you why. =P And yeah, Nico is pretty sweet too. I'd almost forgotten about him, lol. =P

ZLS: Yeah, I agree there. Dunno how much more could be put for Luke's backstory, though; we pretty much know it all now...

And you do have a point about the new additions. But, IMO, and maybe it's just because I've had more time to consider them, I prefer the Lost Hero new protagonists, over the Son of Neptune new protagonists. Even if Hazel and Frank are very cool still.(Hazel especially, for the same reason as Nico. =P)

for any who are interested, on a certain social networking site (not sure if site names are banned), a new (well, old really) chapter has been released by Rick Riordan on the official Percy Jackson page. This chapter is a part that was cut out of the first chapter in the first Percy Jackson book. Nothing new plot wise, but cool to read (and find out some camp traditions).
