9/11

Today marks the 8th anniversary of the ground-shaking terrorist attacks led against the United States of America.

American Airlines Flight 11 - 87 passengers and crew, plus 5 hijackers.
Hit the North World Trade Center Tower at 8:46 AM EST.

United Airlines Flight 175 - 59 passengers and crew, plus 5 hijackers.
Hit the South World Trade Center Tower at 9:03 AM EST.

American Airlines Flight 77 - 59 passengers and crew, plus 5 hijackers.
Hit the west side of the Pentagon at 9:37 AM EST.

United Airlines Flight 93 - 40 passengers and crew, plus 4 hijackers.
Crash-landed in a field near Shanksfield, Pennsylvania at 10:03 AM, EST.

Of the above flights, nothing good happened. Except for one thing.

They brought out HEROES.

At the site of the Twin Towers, the New York City Fire Department climbed floor after floor, each man carrying 100 pounds of equipment with him, checking every floor for survivors till the last second and even beyond.

At the Pentagon, both firefighters and survivors searched for survivors until right before the roof collapsed in front of them.

On Flight 93, the passengers themselves revolted against the hijackers, forcing them to crash the plane before they could hit a larger target.

These acts of courage, bravery, selflessness, and sacrifice shall never be forgotten. I implore all who read this to post with only the utmost respect for the heroes, victims, and families affected.

Thanks, DB. Something so important to people across the world that devastated millions must be in the news.

I must have been... 5 (?) when that happened. I hadn't a clue what was happening when I saw it on TV.

Thank you DB. I was too little to know what was going on when it happened though.

...thankfully that Airplane attack in Mexico/New Mexico (I cant' remember) wasn't terrorist.

Thank you so much, Dudebot. I almost lost my father there and he was a very close friend of a man who went in with nothing but a ragged shirt around his mouth.

That man received the purple heart but has lung problems today.

God bless all those who served that day, and thank God my dad is still here today.

9/12 will be quite a day too... they plan a march upon Washington.

I was only four (I'm seeing a pattern here) when it happened... Still, it was quite a traumatic experience...

We will never forget, and never let such a tragedy repeat...
I hope...

I'd make this post in red white and blue if I was an American, BTW.

I was born in NY, and grew up there. I had several friends working in the WTC.. and lost 3 of them on that day. One of them had gotten out clear, and went back inside to help.  Many good people were lost that day, and many became heroes in the days following. I ask you to remember this in all the days to come, and especially when you hear the words amnesty for aliens, for that means all of them, including those who would do things such as this.

It's strange isn't it, how pain and joy can bring about the same result, tears.

Christmas and giving is one of those times, the joy, the gratitute, the pleasure...

I remember the moment of 9/11 and the result was the same, tears, devestating tears, and I then wondered if he actually was.

Remember my friends, life makes no promises, the ones you make to yourself are the the ones that make a difference...

Love thy neighbor, wherever they may be

9/11, the horror, the revenge, the futility of it all...

9/11 is a quite sad tragedy. A friend of mine who moved here from the East Coast had friends who lost parents aboard the flights.

@legodac, Very well said.

Only as I matured did I understand what had actually happened... not just that two towers fell, but why they fell and the effects of that on the people of the world. The only thing I remember from back then was being in the towers weeks before the attacks... And after the attacks having nightmares of what might have happened.

Remember everyone and everything, from the towers' and event's significance to the victims and heroes, including those still struggling today.

It's one of those things you'll always remember what you were doing when you found out.  I was in a math class.  Even being older than most of you, I had difficulty grasping that humanity could devolve into such violent acts.

That happens to be a picture of lights that are occasionally lit up to fill the NY skyline where the Twin Towers once were. It looks kinda cool, actually.

I was in 3rd grade when it happened, and school had just started. Actually, it was during the morning prayer that we got the news about the 1st plane hitting the tower. I remember my teacher just staring in shock at the intercom, then the alarms started going off and the whole school was under a lock down.

My friends dad was there when it happened, but he was across the city, so he was fine.

I was only 5 or 6 years old when it happened and living in England at the time. I remember my parents staring in shock at the TV screen...
