"Well, I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you," Guinan said jokingly.  "All jokes aside, let's wait for a better time, when there aren't quite so many people around.  I can't give my secrets to just anyone, you know."  She grins.

--Main Engineering--
"Hey, don't just stand there--grab something and get to work!" Norton shouted out as he rushed through the main doors into Engineering.  Just then, another engineer forced him to turn away to deal with some other issue.

Elaine nodded, and pulled out a phaser, and did the same thing Midori was doing right then.
I wonder what actually caused the damage, though...?" Elaine thought, as she looked around at the walls.

As Elaine looked at the damage, it became apparent that the damage was caused by a single, overpowered phaser blast from some point, which set off multiple chain reactions.  Just then, Etain walks in, though Midori doesn't notice her at first.
"Well, I guess we've found out what set off the Red Alert.  Any phaser blast set high enough to vaporize things will trigger an alert," Midori said.  Then she notices Etain.  "Oh, hi Etain!  We've almost finished with the water, then we'll have to figure out what else is broken."
"Would you like a list?" a passing engineer muttered grumpily.

"Hmm... It's almost as if whoever used this had either never used a phaser before, or had very very little experience using a phaser..." Elaine said, and thought for a moment.
"That would match up with what I heard about the rumoured people who were involved... That one was a cadet..." Elaine said, and returned to helping clean up the water.

Etain turns to the grumpy engineer..
"hey if you're not having a good day, change your mind!" " We could have been blown to the Sartori system and/or totally disabled"

Returning her attention to Elaine
"I will start checking the extent of other damage."

--Main Engineering--
As Etain turns back, she sees a fused diagnostic circuit for the life-support system.  She instantly sees that, if it's not fixed, a critical system could go down without raising any alarms, but she also sees the damage is such that she can't reach it physically, meaning she'll have to used automated repair controls to fix the problem.

OOC:  OK, so here's how challenges work.  I will choose a game that best fits the task at hand, along with a Difficulty Challenge proportionate to the task.  You simply have to play the game and accomplish the task.  For score-based tasks, simply leave the comment "<Character Name> <Challenge category> Challenge, BNS" with your score.  If the challenge involves something different (say, "Earn X medal in Game Y"), take a screenshot of your result and PM it to me.
Successful completion of tasks will result in a positive consequence (i.e. a locked door opens, you mix the food ingredients successfully, the system you're working on is repaired, etc.), while failure will result in a negative consequence (i.e. the locked door's system is fused, the food comes out inedible, the system you're working on explodes in your face, etc.).  Most tasks can be circumvented by good roleplaying, and not all routine tasks will require a Challenge; these are for those medium-difficulty tasks requiring skills that are difficult to exhibit through simple text. ;-)  Good luck!

OOC: Preferably, yes.  It's a recurring minigame, so...
Also, Chainreaction CH will be our primary Medical minigame, and I have a LOT of different challenges in mind for this one.  Still working on other types of challenges.

Through her skillful manipulation of the controls, Etain managed to repair and reactivate the diagnostic circuit.  Immediately, a local console alarm goes off in the vicinity of the bulkhead near the damaged Jeffries tube; a bewildered ensign who had been working on removing the door jumps back from her repair work as a force-field snaps into existence.  She turns to yell at Etain, when suddenly a ventilation conduit in the isolated compartment starts spewing gas.  The console helpfully identifies the dangerous gas as a dangerous, corrosive coolant.  The ensign stands there in shock, then almost mechanically shakes Etain's hand, thanks Etain for saving her life in an odd, stunned monotone, then walks out of main engineering, presumably for Sickbay or the ship's counselor.  Or both.

"You've earned it.  In fact..." Norton checks a nearby chronometer.  "I need to get ready for a meeting.  I'll walk you to the turbolift.  The rest of you, Chief Becklissinn is in charge."  He gestures toward an unfamiliar-looking female humanoid with orange skin, vestigial horns and odd, striped, fleshlike tentacle-things hanging over her shoulders.  Norton smiles and heads for the main exit to engineering.

OOC: DC stands for Difficulty Class.  The higher the number, the harder the challenge is.  Lets you know how much is at stake if you fail, in case you decide to try to RP around it instead.  (I.E. for an Engineering challenge, exceptional treknobabble would be a valid way to RP around it.)  Basically, the minigame challenges offer a different way to get things done, in case someone isn't familiar with and/or doesn't like the Trek way of doing things.

OOC: OK, since the minigames thing seems to not be working, I'm getting rid of it.  For now, I'll be using a simple hidden dice roll to determine if you're successful or not, but I may expand the system in the future (i.e. stats of some kind, some way players can add bonuses to the hidden roll to overcome the DC) if I can think of something elegant that won't turn this into a number-crunching fest.

Elaine notices a console flickering across the room.  Examining it closer, she sees it monitors power flow throughout the ship, but she can't see any specific data due to the console's constant flickering on and off.

OOC: Well, I don't think it's that, as much as it hasn't been utilized much, outside the first example of it. =P But alright then, either way whatever works the best I'm okay with. =)

Elaine frowned, as she tried to figure out how to stop the console flickering so often. She looked around the area, to see if there was some way to fix the console, without anything else that was bad happening.

OOC: Well, it killed it because I didn't have time to play ALL the games in the arcade to find which ones would work for different tasks.   Plus, a number/dice-based system lets this work across multiple forums, and since LZP actually has a PCG roleplay area...

Elaine sees a blackened cable running up to the console.  Curiously, it doesn't seem to have been directly hit by any blast.

OOC: Yeah, PCG has its own sub-forum.  It makes sense, given that like half of the old Council are mods/admins there.

The cable appears to have burned itself out through overload.  You think it might be a good idea to switch off the console before you start playing with its power supply.
