I am writing to you today as a concerned LEGO Fan. LEGO has always represented an image of quality, and a certain set of standards. It has been a toy to help kids grow into creative, problem solving people. Imagination and innovation have been the focus.

It has come to my attention that a growing number of players on the LEGO.com game MLN have been abusing the trust you put in them when they signed the terms of use.

When a player makes extra accounts, it is against those terms of use. When such a player blatantly makes a large number of dupes, and brags about it on the LEGO Message Boards, the kids of the MLN community begin to assume that this behavior is acceptable. This problem ranges from a top ten player having hundreds of accounts, to a newer player having extra pages to grow Thornax.

The Lego.com team worked too hard making the My Lego Network, a safe and fun place for it to be abused by players cheating the system.

To that end, I am forwarding to you a list of duplicate accounts, and corroborating evidence on the MLN Player known as: _________.

When viewing this evidence, please take into account the amount of time and effort it took to compile it.

As a part of a growing group of concerned MLN Citizens, I urge you to put an end to this, before a generation of kids grows up learning that it is OK to Cheat.

There's a print screen button on your keyboard. Hit that, then paste it into say paint and do what you want with it.

Plotkin also found 23, 24, etc. a complete list will be HUGE... but worth the effort.

I want to keep the activity here where it  may be seen by the dupers.
It may discourage them.
If they see they are actually going to be reported, maybe!
When they see the disapproval of their peers...maybe!
If we get good at this...definately!!

This will take some time to be most effective, FACTS and EVIDENCE are our friends here...

Or, it may just encourage them to continue in secret, and make up names that don't sound like they're connected. If they're serious enough to create a lot of dupes, I'm sure that disapproval wouldn't exactly matter. And what if a duper sees, and makes up an excuse for why, if the names are similar, the names are similar? I'm just saying. ;)

... I think you're doing a great job MsRR, and I bet Blade agrees... but he IS bringing up some important matters. What if they saw we were on to them, and deleted their "main" duping accounts, then made more to replace them, just using something less obvious?

I am agreeing you're doing a good job, but I'm just bringing up facts that could hinder the effort. Plus, there could be dupers who impersonate people, like someone on MLNT pointed out. But, I guess you've gotta take chances sometimes...

I thought this through for some time before doing this. I wanted to be able to involve members of both Team and MLNO without making a seperate forum, which only draws traffic AWAY from this forum.

The main object is for LEGO to DO something about this. Once they finally realize how rampant the problem is, the only way for someone to " hide" their dupes is by using multiple IP addresses.
All we can do is report with evidence that is overwhelming. We really have no power beyond that.

I don't know about Admiral_Akbar.  The avvie is totally different and so is the name, unlike the rest of them (except Cccotsa).  And I'm pretty sure there were more Cccotsa's, perhaps linked to the Admiral_Cccotsa account.

If it clearly shows the link is to BRICKSHELF, I think they would trust it. Don't use any fancy URL tags or anything; make it straightforward and easy for a person who is not very good at computers be able to view the evidence.

And everyone, nice finds. I was wondering how pando got up there... and I wonder why he left here?

And the thing about "hiding" dupers is really easily cracked: look at low-ish-ranked accounts with completely random names, go to their page, and look on their friendslist. Here is an example of what I'm talking about:

Sometimes the names are pretty obvious, and other times they are not. Be aware of the ranks of others' ranks on the persons friendslist, and if that one account really stands out, check it out. Dupers are now adding friends to their lists to make them look less suspicious, or they could be involved as well, but we don't want to jump to conclusions.

Also, if you go to the top ten page without logging in, you will see 10 rank 0's that have been there for months. These are ALL obviously someone's dupes, with the exception of MLN-Arcade. No one stays in rank 0 for months.

Except MLN-Arcade. =P Or, what if they like being at the top of Rank 0, even if most of the people like to Rank up.

Or, what if they just don't want to rank up, and instead just put up music or stickers? =/

That could be true, but it is still a place to look for dupe activity when we have time.

Is there a possibility that the Help Imeagnos is just a fan who duped many times? But even if it's not, Imeagno's got the other 2/3 ones that still say he's a duper.

Probably not, because he was rank 0 when they appeared. Who would have a fan of him then? AND, about 1.5 monthes lates, he's rank 6! Yes, I said 6. Six. Kinda scary, isn't it... :o :o :o

I agree that the dupers take away the competiveness of the game.  It is unquestionably unfair to compare your advancement to that of someone with thirty different accounts - but with that said - does LEGO care?  I would imagine they could simply enforce one account per computer or address, but I think a majority of the people who have progressed through the levels have cheated by duping.  I would say this is true regarding those members who run the stores on this forum.  As such, has LEGO indicated they are willing to do anything about this?     I am not accusing anyone yet, but I see a lot of suspicious members.

Hey Bittner, have you read the past few pages? Yes, we all know everyone doesn't like duping, except for dupers. Got that part. And LEGO does care, because if you had read any of the past pages, you would've seen that LEGO customer service (an actual person) replied saying "thank you for telling us about this, we appreciate it", or something to that extent.

Yet, when you look up the accounts for everyone that has duped...LEGO appears to have nothing done about.  In fact, LEGO appears to be featuring some of the dupe users.  OK, I hope the "Thank you" letter recieved leads to something more. 

It's nice knowing that I'm aggitating the administrators as a newbie.  :) >:D

If you had read my "Personal Text" area, you would've seen I am no longer an Admin. ;) Anyways, BOT.

The Featured Users hasn't changed in a long time, about 4 months I'm pretty sure. In the Top 10, it works by number of Clicks total, as well as number of Clicks daily. So the dupers will be getting about, lets say, 500 Clicks a day, which in a week is 3500 Clicks, in a month, it could be 14,000 Clicks a month. Quite a bit. That could get you through the ranks in merely a month, which is how most do it. HOWEVER, duping is a long and tedious process requiring much patience, as you must be constantly logging dupe accounts on and off to do your work, which is mass-clicking certain modules on your page; then you must log on to the "main account", harvesting to make sure you are getting the max resources you can from this duping.

Ab-Z(About the letter): It's possible that that could be an auto-generated message, but on the slight chance it's not, it could show they do care... =/

We will discover this as we send in our reports.
PLEASE see the letter & report log, which are not pinned at this point.
Simply copy the letter, paste it into your message, put in the name,  add the evidence, and send. Then LOG in the log the person you reported, so we will know how many reports each duper has against them.

I have been following this discussion and have a few questions.

First I understand if someone has 10+ dupes this is a problem and LEGO can confirm by checking IP addresses.  I just want to say you need to be careful with folks you think might have 1 or 2 dupes.  These folks could be family members that play on the same computer and use similar account names but actually do have a real person behind the account.

For example "zkingsley" is a relative of mine and we do share a computer sometimes.  He does not play quite as much as I do but he has been playing a bit lately (Just got to Rank 5 poor guy...).  We occasionally help each other but in general we do not as I play all the time and trade clicks with a single user almost exclusively with small exceptions. 

So our user names are similar and our IP addresses will match if searched but we have real people behind the accounts.


Second,  I found a user by chance with a similar name "MattKingsley".  I have never met this person but the user name is similar so I thought it would be fun to see if we could become MLN buddies. 

Again, has the appearance of a possible Dupe but this one would fail the IP test as I have no idea who this person really is.


I guess all I am saying is that large scale obvious duping is a problem and should be reported but smaller stuff we sould be careful with.  You don't want LEGO to get tired of a bunch of reports of somebody who may or may not have one or two dupes.  Go for the Big fish first, I have seen a lot myself and will start cataloging them, but I would lay off the little fish that are real hard to prove for now as you just don't know.

LEGO is not going to spend time searching ip's for dupes, but they CAN use them to verify if our reported dupers are really dupers.

The important thing is for LEGO to get reports, and thus know that a  growing part of the community does not think duping is OK..

I agree. When I used to do click trades at mlntips, I was amazed how long it took to click a dino excavation module 20 times, sometimes 50. I can't imagine how much time some kids spend trying to cheat their way into the top ten.

I'm pretty sure I know how they go through each account really quickly, I did this (note: its perfectly legal, not cheating) when paying people off. I would have 2 tabs open on the same user (doesn't work having 2 accounts on at once, I've tested everything out :P), and switch between clicking through faster. Now, LEGO was smart and made sure you couldn't double your clicks by doing 2 pages open at once like what happened with the DRC... anyways. Lots of clicking...

What is this dupe stuff? I'm not exactly sure what this is as i'm new to key terms from mln. I've been around since well.... A long time so, like when they had the reallly old club pages. They ended when i was like 3-5. Anyways yes i'm still knew to terms used by other mlners. Just wanted to ask.

My understanding it is a term used for users who have one main account and several (sometimes hundreds) of "Duplicate" accounts which they use only to give clicks to their main account in order to advance faster without joining in the community thing.

My biggest problem is folks that make top 10 lists Duping.  Those lists should be reserved for folks who play the "Right way".

Thats dupeing? I'm was doing it now i think i'm gonna stop duping then. Before arriving in mlno i was a duper guy, Now i know that its a form of cheating i'm gonna delete my dupes. Yo thanks for telling me.

To each his own.  I personally am concerned about those taking high profile top 10 slots through duping.  I can see cases where a young kid is trying to advance and he can't or is not allowed to post on a forum and is restricted to only the "Canned" messages in the game to communicate.  That can make it very difficult to get through some of the levels.

In that case I really have little issue with a kid having a single Dupe account just to avoid frustration as long as it doesn't work to get him a high profile slot in the top 10 lists.

On the other hand having 300 dupe accounts is excessive and really you have to wonder about those folks social lives or lack thereof. 

So I guess I am not a hard-core anti-duper but more of a moderate.  I was lucky and had a real-life friend to play with from the start, without that I either would have quit or possibly would have resorted to Duping myself (but with one dupe account at the most).

Well ethier way i'm starting to dislike duping, I kinda got rid of all my accounts execpt for the one i started with, The only one i don't have was *******_____ (i'm not allowed to use this username as it's my last name and first) Which was deactivated. I can't use this sacred account at all. This was the account that i used when the lego club pages before the modern lego club pages where ending.I only caught a glimpse of them. I would say landolin_arcade is a no-brainer.  The others are all connected and especially the ianlin looks an awful lot like a short version of landolin to me.  Anyway if they are not Dupes of landolin I think for sure they are related and possible dupes of each other.

Proclicker1 is definitely a dupe as it went to Rank 1 as soon as it was created.  The 2 Boyfranklin accounts are only suspect because they were created at the same time with very similar names.  Guesses at other boyfranklinXX accounts revealed nothing.

I will followup on these pages in a couple days to see if any more can be learned.

Yeah I would say Frodobaggins29 has been busted.  I just wonder what happened to frodolewa2 and 3...  I also wonder if in this case the duper is just using the dupes for Thornax or Clicks too.  Not that it matters.

This is the second time Thornax has been the downfall of a duper. Someone else identified a duper in much the same way.

Third. I did it before i knew duping was wrong,i still have some of those Thornax. Although i did try to get the dupe the badge too.

Another thing that could be done to help, as suggested on MLNT, is to click the modules of others that aren't dupers.

The problem with this is that folks are probably only likely to do this in a click/click trade which limits your max clicks per day to a max of 100 at Rank 10.  My experience is folks don't generally just give clicks away.  This gives dupers an advantage that is hard to overcome.  Folks that actively run successful stores have a shot but that is about it.

One idea I had would be to have someone open up 2 dummy accounts.  One would be called "I-am-a-dupe" the other "I-am-a-duper".  Someone would then send friends requests to the appropriate accounts just to kind of say "We're watching you".  I would doubt any of the requests would be accepted but if they were all the better.  The other problem is finding someone willing to manage the dummy accounts and send out the messages.  I don't really want that job.

I don't recommend it... it is duping to discourage duping...questionable.
I DO recommend contacting LEGO with the information you have posted here. If they get enough of it...

It's because of people like pando, who dupe to the top of the top ten, making it not fair for those who actually play it right, because they can't get to the top without duping themselves, which starts the whole process all over again.

And for a little note, this is kinda like what happened in DRC, people got the Uberglitch and glitched to the top by abusing it, then people complained because they couldn't get there fairly, and Lego took the game down. But, since the ratio of dupes to fair people is low, and there's more, I doubt it'll turn out like DRC, or at least not any time soon.

They closed DRC because it was their glitch that people were using to uberglitch scores.  Duping is solely  player chosen cheating, and not an exploitable glitch.

Just an observation, I know moral's come into play, in a decision about turning someone in, but someone who plays a game online and decides to violate the terms of use agreement set forth by the game and it's affiliates, should be handled by the staff and support of the game.  It is admirable to take an active stance in attempting to keep people honest, however, if it runs as rampant as it appears to be is there really a chance of clearing out those dupers?  I've seen blatantly obvious dupers on MLN some of which have reached the Top 10 marks.  I also checked on a few of those who have been mentioned in this forum, and it seems MLN has taken a "don't ask, don't tell" policy.   Not that I'm defending dupers but comparing them to a representative of this country who was appointed to a financial position that didn't pay their taxes is not exactly on the same level.  In every situation you mentioned about why someone would do something, at least one person is affected by their behavior in a negative way.  I don't think I've befriended a duper and as long as they don't affect my game experience in a negative way I refrain from getting involved.  I'll be back online in about 2 hours so don't be too critical of my stance :D  (By the way I'd call out a cheater in a card game)

I understand that there is no way for me to prove he is not lying, but I, Vanderdecken12, who knows him a lot better than anybody else here, says that I don't believe he dupes. He has become a very good friend of mine, and personally, I believe him ONE HUNDRED PERCENT.  Here is his response:

Before you state that someone is accusing someone of duping read my post completely I said she isn't likely one but it is suspicious, however she has friends who have nothing but the SAME thing on their page.  All of the names I listed are exclusive friends to one-another lightening up isn't an issue it is however an issue when you see high ranked top 10 people such as Vouker and Vouker2 both on the top 10 list one was on the top ten list when I was rank 1 the other has been on the top ten of all time.  I'm not trying to start a fire here... I'm just getting involved (finally) because it is a problem.  As for making accusations, look at those pages... and tell me they aren't linked.  It seems as though they're all feeding one account as many thornax's as possible, which is a high value trade item for those who haven't completed the bioncle campaign.  Go to those sites look at the similarities and you make an educated guess on if they are linked or not.  At first I was stand-by and don't get involved until I saw how much of a problem it was for those who work hard and attempt to draw people to their page to get clicks.   I hope you don't take offense to this just take it as a bit of insight and concern for a game that could get ruined by those that exploit it.

First off  MLN has a problem and it isn't the dupes.  It's that the dupes are still there!!!  Lego would have to blind to not see dupes in: pandobikini2 pandobikini3 yet they don't get rid of them when they say in terms and agreement!  2nd off this isn't a topic about the fairness of MLN, because clicks get you rated high but they are not all of MLN when it comes to gaining ranks.  3rd of I am ticked off(thats not swearing, right?) at the dupers because they no what they are doing is stuoid and having 9999 dupes is stupid because even three dupes is bad and it gains ranks easily.

I found a sort of dupe. When you are on lego.com sign into an account and then sign out into another account, when you post on the LMBs it will be the original account, so IndyMan97 basically showed that he has dupe. But if you look at his profile, he is not friends with his possible, dupe. So it may be a sibling's accout or a dupe used to boost himslef on the LMBs.

And my guesses why he choose the name.
1) He thought that Voukor was the most known MLNer and copyed his name, and blended it with Uraw's!
2) He wanted to plant the evidence on Voukor.
On ether of those options, he made one big mistake, he put a kinda sig thing under his Lego.com name and habits don't change for dupes. And there you have it kids, never put a sig kinda thing under your name one the LMBs, it could get your dupe known!

I have a question about duping. I was thinking of making an account that befirends customers of a store so that stores can send items to it and then it can mail it to them. Like a courier system. Would this be duping or not?

Its basically an account for a team in MLNO. For example, Raven Shredders have an account like:

Since my team does NOT have a team account, I do not know the exact purpose of them.
