Title: Re: books. Post by: Kritzelei on August 05, 2009, 05:30:12 am I am re-reading The Spook's Curse by Joseph Delaney. A brilliant book, part of the Wardstone Chronicles/Last Apprentice/Spook's Apprentice series. It's known as The Last Apprentice: Curse of the Bane in the USA, and it's set in the country and county in which I live in!
I also recommend that you read: The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy: A classic, it's in a trilogy of five :D. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone: Known as the Sorcerer's Stone in USA, a brilliant piece of writing for anyone of any age. Dogfight: Also brilliant, set in World War 2 Norway. Title: Re: books. Post by: Flash-әdge on August 05, 2009, 12:12:21 pm Some of my favorites include classics like Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia (although as I look back, I'm losing interest in it.), Sherlock Holmes, Three Musketeers, etc.
Modern books that I like would have to be ones like Inheritance Cycle - Paoloni (spelling?), Redwall - Jacques (or it used to be one of my favorites), Peter and the Starcatchers/ Peter and the Shadowthieves. Right now, a friend lent me Dragonspell. It's so-so. Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on August 05, 2009, 12:20:09 pm I love to read anything Ted Dekker writes, but my favorite of his has to be The Lost Circle Series (Black, Red, White, Green (not out yet))

Also re-reading Harry Potter books because I have nothing else to do, and I'm gonna se the 6th movie soon, so I'd like some backstory so I understand whats going on. Title: Re: books. For more mature readers who like fiction, might I also suggest This Present Darkness and Edge of Eternity. Both good reads for Christians as well. And, don't forget the one, the only, Bible. Right now, I'm reading Don Quixote for school. Title: Re: books. Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on August 13, 2009, 10:38:53 pm I am rereading Joshua, by Joseph Girzone. I highly recommend it. Title: Re: books. Post by: Flash-әdge on August 28, 2009, 06:55:53 pm I'm reading Pilgrim's Progress by Bunyan. Simple, elegant, straight-to-the-point, and a good read for any sound Christian.

Right now I am reading a book called the Bielisky Brothers! Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on September 16, 2009, 08:54:12 pm I absolutely LOVE Ted Dekker's books! Especially his fantasy books. The Circle Series was the best, IMO.
Title: Re: books. Post by: oilking on September 17, 2009, 03:19:53 pm I absolutely LOVE Ted Dekker's books! Especially his fantasy books. The Circle Series was the best, IMO. Without a doubt the Circle is his best!!! I just read that you bought green???? I AM SSSOOO jelouse!!!! I cant wait to read it.....I am falling behind.....I have not read his last 3 new ones.."Kiss" "Bonemans Daughter" or "Green" :( I am DEFINATELY buying green though......I have almost all his books.......cant wait to read that one! Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on September 17, 2009, 03:43:25 pm Boneman's Daughter was disturbing, at least that's what my mom said. She wouldn't let me read that one. I haven't read Kiss or Adam, either, but mainly because I'm broke and have no money to buy books :P
Title: Re: books. Post by: oilking on September 17, 2009, 05:10:07 pm Hm......I have heard the same thing......(about Bonemans Daughter).....I have got Adam......its......ok......a little diffrent...kinda disturbing...but still an interesting read......I know the feeling of being broke!!! especially when it comes to books! They are not the cheapest things......ah well TOTALLY worth it! Now I need to go find a place that sells Green........
Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on September 17, 2009, 08:09:16 pm I got Green the day it came out, but waited to read it because I had gotten... some other book, can't remember which book now. :P I have too many to count, they are all stacked up against the wall in my room, because I ran out of room on my bookshelf.
Title: Re: books. Post by: oilking on September 17, 2009, 11:44:15 pm hahaha! That is too funny! I had to make a whole new bookshelf to keep all my books!!! I really want to know if Green answers all the questions Red, Black, and White bring up.....but I guess I will have to wait till I get it :'(
Title: Re: books. Post by: Midnght on September 18, 2009, 07:04:43 am people here only seem talk about music, computers, and TV. do any of you read? this is the topic to discuss what you like to read, your fav books, ect. right now I'm reading Starship Troopers. Woo woo Starship Trooper an EPIC read and different from the most excellent movie as well. I've been reading well maybe not reading it's been on my mind as a ponderance lately. If you listen to a book on audio tape/cd whatever are you still reading? Hmmm good question no? I've not been reading book books lately. But I've been enjoying podcast books enmasse. Listening to a lot of Scott Sigler stories now. But others as well. Prior to the last 3 months I read. Cobweb The Big U The Snow Empress (Sano Ichiro Novels book 12) Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 1) Living Dead in Dallas (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 2) Club Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 3) Dead to the World (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 4) Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 5) Definitely Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 6) All Together Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 7) From Dead to Worse (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 8) Darkly Dreaming Dexter (Book 1) Dearly Devoted Dexter (Book 2) Dexter in the Dark (Book 3) Confessions of a Yakuza In the past two or 3 months I've listened to. The Zombie Chronicles: Escape Fried Green Zombies The Takeover Aliens and Satanic Creatures Wanted: Humans Need Not Apply Infected Contagious Earthcore Playing for Keeps The Rookie Nocturnal (Current Listening) Future Listening Heaven - Season One Heaven - Season Two: Hell Heaven - Season Three: Earth Heaven - Season Four: Wasteland Heaven - Season Five: War In the Service of Samurai Beautiful Red Cell U.R. AmerIndian 2192 Under the Stairs Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom Future book Reading Dead and Gone (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 9) Dexter by Design (Book 4) The Fire Kimono (Sano Ichiro Novels book 13) The Cloud Pavilion (Sano Ichiro Novels book 14) So I read and um listen to audio books. All this will be a little less than a years worth of reading. If you want to listen to any of the audio books I have listed here or look up others they are totally free head to http://www.podiobooks.com and make an account then download and listen or run the podcast url or xml through http://www.podspew.com on your pc and you can listen to them streaming. I would highly suggest if your a football fan and sci-fi fan listen to The Rookie it's awesome and a second book will be coming out at some point called The Starter. Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on September 18, 2009, 09:22:23 am hahaha! That is too funny! I had to make a whole new bookshelf to keep all my books!!! I really want to know if Green answers all the questions Red, Black, and White bring up.....but I guess I will have to wait till I get it :'( It answers a lot, but it is also very confusing. And... somewhat dark. I had no idea why this one character was in the book til the very last chapter. Then it clicked. And then the book ended :P And Black began.Title: Re: books. Post by: oilking on September 18, 2009, 10:39:59 am
It answers a lot, but it is also very confusing. And... somewhat dark. I had no idea why this one character was in the book til the very last chapter. Then it clicked. And then the book ended :P And Black began.
Hm......now I am even MORE confused......ah well I will just have to bite the bullet and buy it!!!! Have you read the lost book series??? The thing that confuses me more than anything is the timeline in all the books...... Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on September 18, 2009, 11:19:16 am Just finished the Alex rider series.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on September 18, 2009, 12:47:37 pm I haven't read those, mainly because I want to buy the "set" all at once, but Barnes and Nobles does not carry the books. >:( So, I have to order them off ChristianBook.com, but, like I said, I'm broke.
And about Green, I do not believe that you should read it before Black, Red, and White, like some people have said. It doesn't make much sense that way, and if you haven't read the Paradise series, you're not going to get who the one character is, and why he's there. Title: Re: books. Post by: oilking on September 18, 2009, 01:55:40 pm Yah I know what you mean about having them all at once......I have the first 4....and have not read the other ones yet..........hm...now you have got me thinking.....I have all the paradise series books....so I will hopefully get it.......So does Green wrap up the paradise books as well???? The worst part about Green is that after I am done reading it......I am going to want to re-read ALL the circle and paradise books again!
Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on September 18, 2009, 02:58:01 pm It brings everything full circle. It starts off The Circle Series and ends the Paradise Series.
Title: Re: books. Post by: oilking on September 18, 2009, 03:14:55 pm Good to know! Oh and just so you know I think that "Skin" and the "lost books" are connected.......
Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on September 18, 2009, 03:17:09 pm Don't remember reading Skin... I know I have the book somewhere though.
Title: Re: books. Post by: oilking on September 18, 2009, 11:49:54 pm Its pretty good......throws ya for a loop like all of Dekkers books! Once I start reading one of his books.....I cant put it down.....I read the entire circle (minus Green) in a week....mostly just at night!!!
Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on September 19, 2009, 01:01:59 pm Ah, reading books at night. I love doing that. Can't sleep without reading at least a chapter. But... its usually more like 10 :P
How many books do you think you have read? Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on September 19, 2009, 01:06:38 pm How about the Kingdom series? By chuck black?
Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on September 19, 2009, 01:10:23 pm Maybe... I remember Venom lent me a few books, and I think those were the ones he lent me. But, this was a long time ago...
Are they about knights? Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on September 19, 2009, 01:13:43 pm Yea, The main Character is a man named Leinad.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on September 19, 2009, 01:16:01 pm Ooo... I think I have read those... at least the first 3.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on September 19, 2009, 01:22:12 pm Read the rest! They are awesome!!
Title: Re: books. Post by: oilking on September 20, 2009, 12:52:13 am Ah, reading books at night. I love doing that. Can't sleep without reading at least a chapter. But... its usually more like 10 :P How many books do you think you have read? I know eh! That is pretty much the only time I read!!! phew.......I have NO idea how many books I have read......a LOT! Although I really only started reading books when I was 11 or 12......Its probably in the high hundreds........thats mainly a guesstimate though.........what about you??? Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on September 20, 2009, 02:56:56 am I have read thousands of books. I started reading at age 5! Can you believe that? I was reading the whole magic tree house series at five! My mom said I was obsessed.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on September 21, 2009, 09:45:39 am Try 2 for reading ;)
I learned how to read when I was barely 2 years old, and read 100 books when I was 3 (I still have the list of all the books I had read). When I was going to school, I had read every book in our school's library. I've read at least 5,000 books, but probably more. Title: Re: books. Now that you mention it.......I really wish I would have kept a log of all the books I have read.....that would be really interesting........although I usually reread most of my books......(especially dekkers)..... Title: Re: books. Post by: Midnght on September 21, 2009, 11:18:49 am It would be an interesting task to go back through ones memory and list all the books you remember reading. Our brains do hold tons of useless information while some books we may not remember due to youth and age I bet you coudl still come up with 50-100 or more you've read in your lifetime.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on September 21, 2009, 11:24:02 am I could probably do that but it would take to much time :P
Title: Re: books. Post by: mtmerrick on September 21, 2009, 12:09:15 pm school has kept me from reading too much.. :(
but normally i read a TON. i can knock out the lord of the rings series (all 4 books, not the simarillion) in about , hm, i dunno, maybe 18 hours, total. Title: Re: books. Phew!!! Can you say speed read!!!! I dont think I could do that.....I only read at night.....so for that to happen.....I wouldnt be able to sleep for 2 days!!! Those are some good books though! yes. actually, my mom taught me how to read when i was 3. she actually taught me to speed read. when i was 3. i mean, it has some normal reading thrown in, but yeah, i just fly through books. for example, one bionicle chapter book takes me about 5-10 minutes. I can read the entire series of chronicles of Narnia in a 2 days! 2-3 hours. :P (yes, I've read them all) Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on September 21, 2009, 12:26:34 pm On facebook, there is an app called visual bookshelf, and I've started recording all my books on there. It takes a lot of time to find all the books, but I plan on listing every book I have ever read on there. Thankfully, Barnes and Nobles keeps track of the books you buy, so I have an extremely long list of books on there.
Title: Re: books. Post by: oilking on September 21, 2009, 01:26:47 pm Like I said before......Craziness :P!!!! Hm.......I will have to look that app up......sounds interesting!
Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on September 24, 2009, 08:24:36 am Yea, I just finished the kingdom series in 2 days, a total of 6 books.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on September 24, 2009, 10:24:48 am I timed myself yesterday. A 250 page book takes me 2 hours and 15 min. to read, with no interruptions and complete silence.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on September 24, 2009, 10:50:15 am I don't have that luxury... :-[
Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on September 24, 2009, 10:58:45 am I don't usually either, with 2 younger siblings running around the house, but it was raining and cold yesterday, so they took a nap and I got to read.

Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on September 24, 2009, 11:08:06 am I was really into the star wars books for awhile, but they kind of got old after the 3 time. :P Oh and has any one here read The single shard? Golden Goblet? Hittite warrior?
Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on September 24, 2009, 11:14:56 am No, No, and... No :P
I will never get tired of reading star wars books. :) Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on September 24, 2009, 11:17:13 am Too bad, they are all great Books

Oh, the new Star Wars book that came out on Tuesday, Death Troopers, was AMAZING to read! Title: Re: books. Post by: Ddude The Insane on October 17, 2009, 05:06:22 pm I've glanced at it while waiting in line at the bookstore, but never actually read it. GET IT NOW. I'd probably have turned into a Trekkie *shudders* Really, I don't get that series. I've tried reading some books, but I got bored when I found out I had no idea what they were talking about.
Title: Re: books. Post by: LordVaderRulez on October 17, 2009, 05:10:26 pm I've read The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. They are hilarious but way to short and easy. I finished them all in like an hour.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Ddude The Insane on October 17, 2009, 05:15:31 pm Meh. They're short, but if you read the webcomic, it's waaay longer. Although 4 and 5 have new stuff.

Title: Re: books. Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on October 19, 2009, 02:38:12 pm I am reading "Joshua in the Holy Land" by Joseph Girzone
I am really enjoying it. Title: Re: books. Post by: mtmerrick on October 20, 2009, 04:49:20 pm I'm currently re-reading the Young Wizards series by Diane Duane.
Now i know a lot of you here are highly religious, some to the point you won't even read anything having to do with "magic" but i want all you, specifically, to read this. The Young wizards series of books are about Nita and Kit, two teenagers who become wizards. In this series, however, the term "wizards" is not used in the traditional sense. Wizards are beings given the ability to manipulate the universe's energy, by the Powers that Be. Without giving a long complex explanation, The Powers that Be are the gods. There is a Power superior to all the others, known as the One. All the others are the "minor deities", which, in any form of Christianity, would be called the archangels. The Powers come from a universe known as Timeheart, which is for lack of a mortal word for it, is heaven. Though never fully explained (of course), the powers created spacetime outside of timeheart, and made life. They CAUSED the big bang, and shaped it into the universe, and created life. Now what makes this series so incredibly different? Think, do the gods have to abide by the laws of the physical universe? of course not. they created life everywhere, in the "billion homeworlds", simultaneously. Earth was of the first run of creation in this universe, but yes, they did try again, many times, populating this universe, and all the others. Then one of the powers, feeling he had to add something, created death, entropy. The power, called throughout the series "the Lone One" was expelled from timeheart, and the other powers tried to reverse the damage caused, but to no avail. The only place entropy was now created was timeheart, and the Powers that Be decided to make it so that every soul that died because of the lone one's "gift", for that was how he put it, would come to timeheart, and live forever there. Wizards are beings that have been gifted by the Powers with the ability to manipulate the Physical universe so that they may work to slow entropy. The series focuses on Nita and Kit, two teen who discovered wizardry, and... well our friend wikipedia can tell the rest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Wizards (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Wizards) The oath all wizards take: | V In Life's name and for Life's sake, I assert that I will employ the Art which is its gift in Life's service alone, rejecting all other usages. I will guard growth and ease pain. I will fight to preserve what grows and lives well in its own way; and I will change no object or creature unless its growth and life, or that of the system of which it is part, are threatened. To these ends, in the practice of my Art, I will put aside fear for courage, and death for life, when it is right to do so -- till Universe's end. I am currently re-reading book 5, The Wizard's Dilemma. In this book, Nita's mom gets cancer, and she goes through everything seemingly possible to save her. this series is a wonderful read, and if anything is more religious than almost any other fantasy book. go pick up the first one from the library. i guarantee you'll be hooked. ;) Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on October 23, 2009, 06:25:27 am Now I am reading Gentle ben. By someones name I cant remember, I love nature books.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on October 23, 2009, 07:36:17 am Ok, I just finished Chosen by Ted Dekker, and it was an amazing book! I love how it fills in the gaps between Black and Red.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on October 23, 2009, 07:51:02 am What series is that?
Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on October 23, 2009, 07:58:17 am Chosen is part of The Lost Books sereis. Black, Red, White, and Green are part of The Circle Trilogy. Showdown, Saint, and Sinner are part of The Paradise Series. They all interlock to form this giant circle.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on October 23, 2009, 09:17:44 am That sounds awesome. I was just reading Frankenstien the other day, it was retarded.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on October 23, 2009, 09:22:44 am I'm not a fan of that book. At all.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on October 23, 2009, 09:24:57 am Same here, I didn't even finish it. Now I am reading gentle Ben as mentioned in my earlier post.
Title: Re: books. Post by: oilking on October 23, 2009, 09:29:02 am Ok, I just finished Chosen by Ted Dekker, and it was an amazing book! I love how it fills in the gaps between Black and Red. Yah the Lost books are definately awsome! Right now I am reading the Babylon Rising series by Lehay (wow probably butchered the spelling of that) :( anyway its the guy who co-wrote the left behind series. Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on October 23, 2009, 09:35:17 am I can't remeber if I've read that series... :-\ But Left Behind was good up until book 12. I didn't like the ending AT ALL.
Title: Re: books. Post by: oilking on October 23, 2009, 09:40:22 am I can't remeber if I've read that series... :-\ But Left Behind was good up until book 12. I didn't like the ending AT ALL. I know eh!!! REALLY disapointing :( ah well.....I think that is probably the longest series I have read....its HUGE! anyway....the Babylon Rising books are good....they are about a guy who looks for Biblical artifacts, and kinda end times stuff....... Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on October 23, 2009, 09:42:52 am Sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out next time I go to Barnes & Nobles.
The longest series I have ever read was the New Jedi Order series, there was over 15 books in that series! Actually... scratch that. Nacy Drew/Hardy Boys are the longest series I've read. Title: Re: books. Post by: oilking on October 23, 2009, 09:47:53 am Nacy Drew/Hardy Boys are the longest series I've read. Oh yea........guess I forgot about those........(although I didnt read Nancy Drew);) those were some classics! Kinda predictable but still good.... Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on October 23, 2009, 09:48:22 am My longest series in the redwall series, it has like 30 books, and they all are over 400 pages.

I have only read the first 7 or 8 though.....I should keep going with those...... Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on October 23, 2009, 01:27:53 pm Well, if you consider all the Star Wars books a huge series, they beat out Nancy Drew by... 10 books?
Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on October 24, 2009, 10:59:57 am Probably, I loved the red walls, I was hooked. I was literally couldn't go without one...
Title: Re: books. Post by: Kritzelei on October 25, 2009, 02:14:46 am I've just finished reading The Spook's Stories: Witches by Joseph Delaney. His books are amazing, this last one had five short stories in it and were brilliant to link in with the main books. He's my favourite author, and I met him recently at school for a talk and book signing. :) The film's coming out in 2011, or perhaps 2010.
Title: Re: books. Post by: [5025] on October 25, 2009, 10:48:01 am I'm reading Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter. It's really a good book, if you like Star Wars. It shows Maul's true nature. Compared to this book, he was a weakling in The Phantom Menace.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on October 25, 2009, 11:00:31 am Really? I havent heard of it...
Title: Re: books. Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on October 25, 2009, 07:16:03 pm Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter by Michael Reeves is a chase story, plain and simple, a group of characters slapped -- the usual verb, thrown, seems unduly refined -- together, and propelled through a series of perils, always pursuing or being pursued.
The plot, which must bamboozle the reader into thinking something important is happening, is doomed from the start, no less from its own defects than from the fact that, with Episode I arresting the dramatic development, it can do nothing that matters to anyone who matters. Why some elements are present is a mystery. Why some elements aren't present, or simply disappear, is also a mystery. The Crimson Corridor makes no sense. It's so dangerous that it presents a Jedi Padawan sufficient challenge to qualify as a Knighthood trial, yet ordinary beings without Force powers seem to manage just fine there. There are too many gimmicks to blunt Maul's edge, to put him in tight situations, including the introduction of yet another species that blanks out the Force. So, we have a bad novel -- bad characters, bad ideas, bad prose -- shoe-horned into a gap in continuity so constrained by the events of Episode I, that the outcome is never in doubt. It's impossible to become involved in the characters, or to care about the outcome. Even Maul himself is completely overshadowed by the other characters crowding the narrative, and the maladroit writing, in what, judging by the title, should be "his" novel. If you're determined to read it,oh well.... If not, rest assured, you're not missing much. IMO Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on October 26, 2009, 08:41:11 am Well thanks for the info MSRR, I think ill pass on that note...
Title: Re: books. Post by: [5025] on October 26, 2009, 11:17:52 am Well thanks for the info MSRR, I think ill pass on that note... Like I always say, you can't judge a book until you read it for yourself. In my opinion, that review is a bunch of garbage. On a side note to Star Wars, I'm still waiting for Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil. The Darth Bane series is really good if you like the Sith. Title: Re: books. Post by: Master X: Neo Black on October 26, 2009, 01:31:42 pm I dont read star wars.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on October 26, 2009, 02:39:58 pm Ok, well, I took DT's advice (at least, I think it was him :P ) and bought the first book in The Mysterious Benedict Society yesterday. I have to say, it is an excellent book to read!
Title: Re: books. Post by: Ddude The Insane on October 26, 2009, 04:50:17 pm Yes, it was my advice. =P Book 2 is pretty good as well, and book three...it's kind of a filler, but still not bad.
I'm waiting to see what Trenton Lee Stewart makes next... Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on October 26, 2009, 05:49:32 pm I have 50 more pages in the first, but I'm probably going to read Imperial Commando 501st next, then the second book in the Series.

Title: Re: books. Post by: LordVaderRulez on December 24, 2009, 04:22:14 pm I just finished more Halo related books. I'm trying to read them all, they're are very good. I already finished The Flood, Evolutions, Cole Protocol, Contact Harvest, and I am almost done with Ghosts of Onyx.

I love doing that. I usually can't sleep without reading at least a chapter. But... its usually more... sometimes many more! Title: Re: books. Title: Re: books. Post by: Jade on January 11, 2010, 05:13:55 am I usually read a chapter in a book before I go to bed, though lately I've been reading the whole book instead of just a couple chapters.
I'm currently re-reading Saint by Ted Dekker. Amazing book, and its really hard to put down. Title: Re: books. Post by: lionytai on January 11, 2010, 06:23:02 am I love mystery books. Scooby doo, Sherlock Holmes, arsene Lupin. Actullay old fashion mystery books.

Post by: Tommy_60 on January 12, 2010, 09:10:16 pm Well, my teacher just finished reading "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens to my honors reading class today. Pretty good, actually. We already read Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" and "Wednesday Wars" by Gary Schmidt. All of them are really good, and I recommend them all. Now, we have to read "To Kill a Mocking Bird", is it any good?
Title: Re: books. Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on January 12, 2010, 09:25:27 pm It is very good, but why is your teacher reading to the class??

Title: Re: books. Post by: Tommy_60 on January 13, 2010, 06:29:38 pm It is very good, but why is your teacher reading to the class?? That's the only book she'll ever read aloud to us. She did that because she said we would understand it better if she read it to all of us, giving us notes to write down when we're all at the same spot. I think she made the right choice. Are we allowed to chat about books here? Like a "Books General Discussion" topic? Title: Re: books. Post by: Legodac on January 13, 2010, 08:22:55 pm people here only seem talk about music, computers, and TV. do any of you read? this is the topic to discuss what you like to read, your fav books, ect. right now I'm reading Starship Troopers. Yes Tommy60 My fave is the bible, not because I like to thump it, but because it is the basis for every great story ever written. No writer who wrote a book of importance didn't read a little of the good book. My Dad used to say, "The Bible is a book filled with good stories" I'm not much for reading, for I feel that to write from the heart, one must not have been influenced by other writers. I have written a book entitled "Amputating the Roots of Evil", it's a short but intence read, perhaps I'll post one day that which inspires me most. Reading is a way to find yourself, it's the best way. Movies come and go, life experience may be forgotten, but the words you've read or written will allways dominate your dreams. Title: Re: books. Title: Re: books. Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on March 29, 2010, 07:18:36 pm How many of you have read Animal Farm by George Orwell?
The novel addresses not only the corruption of the revolution by its leaders but also how wickedness, indifference, ignorance, greed and myopia destroy any possibility of a Utopia. I highly recommend it. Title: Re: books. Post by: Teresa Lisbon on March 30, 2010, 11:32:10 am I'm currently reading The Priest by Ellen Gunderson Traylor. Title: Re: books. Post by: Teresa Lisbon on April 02, 2010, 03:52:39 pm I had read the book before... and wasn't very impressed. The characters were hard to believe in, like they weren't really real. There wasn't much action in the book, and what little there was seemed weak. There was a bunch of scenes in the book that didn't have to be there... I just didn't like it, even though I love reading about that kind of stuff.
Right now I'm reading The Voice by Bill Meyers (for the 3rd time). I'll probably review it after I finish reading it... Title: Re: books. Title: Re: books. Post by: Teresa Lisbon on April 12, 2010, 10:50:07 am I get so bored sometimes, re-reading books.
Thankfully, Karen Kingsbury came out with a new book, Take Three. Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on April 12, 2010, 09:05:40 pm I'm done with Elayne!!! Now I have to get to Mat, his chapters and Rand's are always the most interesting.

Title: Re: books. Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on May 16, 2010, 12:26:07 am I am reading "The Great Husband Hunt" by Laurie Graham.
This is not a romance! The title and photo on the cover could mislead you. But this is a clever book, a marvelous character read. The main character, Poppy is a woman that you will love to hate. Uneducated, spoiled, and self-absorbed, she is also fun, impulsive, and hedonistic. Born into an affluent family in the early 1900s, she experiences all of the highlights of the 20th century; the sinking of the Titanic, 2 World Wars, Vietnam. She bounces through life with a carefree, unconcerned attitude, and, in spite of herself, everything always seems to work out in the end. There were times when I found myself disliking Poppy so much, I wondered if I wanted to finish the book. A few pages more, though, and I'd have forgotten all about how much she ticked me off and get caught up in her next adventure. Now, don't we all know people just like that?? Don't let yourself get too caught up in the historical details of this book. After all, it is just fiction! Let go a little, and, hopefully, you'll enjoy this as much as I do. Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on May 16, 2010, 11:11:42 am The Gathering Storm, by Brandon Sanderson. It's a great book! =P

I just read the first nine of the Ranger's Apprentice series, they're pretty good. Anyone here read them? Title: The Book Topic Post by: The Host on January 15, 2012, 02:29:03 pm EDIT: Literally right after I posted this I saw the book topic in entertainment, so could a mod please move this.
My favourite books: -Ender's Game + Series -The Hunger Games Series -The Millenium Series Other books I've read in the past year and would recommend: -All of the Percy Jackson Books (especially for younger readers, or people who like Roman/Greek mythology) -The Maze Runner Series (the first book is unfortunately the best, IMO) -Across the Universe Trilogy (the first 2 books are amazing, the third will be released Jan 2013) <-- this series will likely join my favourite books, as long as the 3rd books ends well Title: Re: books. Post by: lionytai on January 16, 2012, 01:14:16 pm I think I'll go check out the hunger games from my school library, if they have it. Heard that it's really good.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 17, 2012, 10:05:13 am The Hunger Games series are pretty good. I just reread Percy Jackson though; I'd almost forgotten how much I loved those books. :D
Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 17, 2012, 10:39:18 am Yeah, I also recommend both the Hunger Games and both Percy Jackson series. Can't wait for book three of Heroes of Olympus; it's way too long of a wait. =/ But, I also know how long it can take to write stuff, and since there's two different series being written at the same time, I understand. =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 17, 2012, 12:28:01 pm Have you read the Kane chronicles? They're good too.
And isn't their going to be a total of 5 books for Heroes of Olympus? Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 17, 2012, 12:35:37 pm 1. Yes, that's what I was referring to, by 'two different series being written at the same time'. =P Good books, can't wait for that book three, but that's only a few months wait, compared to like half a year. xD
2. Yeah, but you need book three before books 4 and 5. =P And the end's likely going to be here 2 years from now, at the rate the books are being made now. But I just meant the newest book, given I already read the Son of Neptune. =P(That title always messes me up. D=) Title: Re: books. Post by: The Host on January 17, 2012, 07:22:41 pm I'm super excited for The Mark of Athena. Those books never dissapoint me. And as long as one year seems, that's pretty good time to make a quality book.
Because I got into the Percy Jackson Series late I read all five of the first series at once, and then a year later got the next series started =D Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 17, 2012, 08:40:46 pm I'm trying to get my gf to read them, but she's skeptical. Funny thing is, she really likes Greek mythology, and especially the demigods. =P
But yeah, I'm right there with you ZLS. I'm waiting for The Mark of Athena too. =D (with some impatience I might add) Title: Re: books. Post by: lionytai on January 17, 2012, 09:02:50 pm That's odd. My school library has mockingjay, but it does not have the Hunger Games.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 18, 2012, 08:35:40 am ZLS: Oh yes, I'm not complaining about it because it wouldn't be a good quality book; I just have nothing Percy Jackson related to read now, since I've already re-read the first series, and read the other two books(Of both series) just recently. =P
Mahri: Really try to; she should like them. Just mention that it's essentially a 'what if' of if it happened in the real world, that might help. =P Even if it is more than just that. =P And as I said; definitely with you both there; especially because of Book 2's ending. D= It just couldn't have been a bit longer, could it? xD Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 18, 2012, 10:52:33 am I'm trying, trust me; although, I she's only halfway through the Wheel of Time series, so I may have to wait until she finishes those, lol. =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 18, 2012, 12:16:30 pm Yeah, that might be a good idea. Never multi-task huge books with Percy Jackson. That's partly why I took so long finishing Inheritance. xD
Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 18, 2012, 03:09:21 pm Haha, true. I know exactly what you mean. XD You should still read the Wheel of Time series by the way. ;)
Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 18, 2012, 03:43:59 pm Maybe eventually. =P But I do need to start reading more, so maybe that may be a good way to kill two birds with one stone. =P

Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 18, 2012, 04:40:25 pm 1. Oh yes, I've finished both of the books. =P In fact, that's one of the things I'm waiting on right now, since the final book(Well, currently final book... =P) is due for May. That still leaves like 6 months of waiting, though, as Mark of Athena's probably gonna be released in October like the last two.
2. I was halfway through when I got distracted as well; but I mostly blame Skyward Sword for that, as I didn't touch any of the books I had for the longest time due to playing the game. xD I recommend you get back to it, though, it is really good. Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 18, 2012, 05:44:26 pm Lol, I hate it when I get distracted from a good book by an even book. =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: The Host on January 18, 2012, 08:12:34 pm @mtm: I don't know as much about egyptian mythology, and as such am not interested as much in the Egypt style books by Riordan.
Has anyone here heard of the Across the Universe series? Currently only the first 2 books of the trilogy are available, with the third one expected January 2013. It is a sci-fi book, but not hard core. In fact, I would only categorize it as sci-fi because the book is about space travel. I would highly recommend the series to anyone, as they are good length books with great characters. The book is written similarily to Rick Riordan's Heroes of Olympus books, with each character telling their story in their point of view. I picked up the first book just after Christmas because it looked interesting, and immediately after starting I was hooked. The plot is full of mystery and suspense, and both have great backdrops (scenes) that you can really begin to feel, especially in book two (although book one comes with a map). Title: Re: books. Post by: Legodac on January 18, 2012, 08:23:42 pm In my world and perhaps just in my mind, there are only a few books worth reading, my first choice is "The Lego Ideas Book" which I only found in the last few weeks.
It's remarkable to say the least, I can't wait to take a real look. Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 18, 2012, 10:14:38 pm Has anyone here ever read Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind?
Title: Re: books. Post by: Legodac on January 18, 2012, 11:12:41 pm Well, no, but I think I would like to, could you provide a link to the publisher?
Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 19, 2012, 08:19:56 am ZLS: Hmm... I don't think I've heard of the series; but if there's any similarities to the Heroes of Olympus books, I'm up for trying it. =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 19, 2012, 11:29:56 am Legodac: Er.... I don't know who the publisher is, sorry. :/
Blade: Actually, in the first book of the Kane chronicles, it is mentioned that "other gods" live in the Empire State building in New York. For what it counts. =P Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 19, 2012, 12:42:26 pm Mahri: Aka, the Greek Gods. =P Since the two are supposed to take place around the same time, IIRC.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 19, 2012, 01:53:47 pm Yep. I just started rereading The Lost Hero; Jason's so awesome. =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 19, 2012, 03:12:27 pm That he is. I'm slightly disappointed there aren't more lightning Demigods, but it's justified in-story, so whatever. =P
I should re-read The Lost Hero myself sometime; I've re-read every other book, that's the only one I haven't read relatively recently, as I read it right when it came out. =P Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 19, 2012, 05:10:04 pm Who's your favorite male and female character out of all of them? I think I'd have to go with Percy and Thalia. Percy's just epic because he eats blue food and controls water; And Thalia is just awesome all around. Hilariously enough, I was slightly disappointed when she became a Hunter. =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 19, 2012, 05:41:22 pm I wonder why? =P
I'd say either Percy and Annabeth, or Jason and Annabeth. Going with Percy slightly, if only for the awesomeness in the first series and *SPOILERS*. Even if my favourite element is lightning. =P And Annabeth... Well... You just don't mess with someone who can turn invisible at will. xD Title: Re: books. Post by: The Host on January 19, 2012, 08:46:31 pm I really liked Jason, but reading book two I realized how important Percy is. His strength as a central character makes me have to choose him as my fav male character, although I feel that Luke could get a cool backstory as well. Nico also gets a mention, jsut because he's affiliated with death/darkness.
As for females, Annabeth and Thalia are strong central characters, but the recent female additions in Heroes of Olympus were pretty cool as well. Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 19, 2012, 08:59:11 pm Annabeth is definitely a close second. But I like Thalia better; really couldn't tell you why. =P And yeah, Nico is pretty sweet too. I'd almost forgotten about him, lol. =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 20, 2012, 07:50:56 am ZLS: Yeah, I agree there. Dunno how much more could be put for Luke's backstory, though; we pretty much know it all now...
And you do have a point about the new additions. But, IMO, and maybe it's just because I've had more time to consider them, I prefer the Lost Hero new protagonists, over the Son of Neptune new protagonists. Even if Hazel and Frank are very cool still.(Hazel especially, for the same reason as Nico. =P) Mahri: You forgot about the guy who can see dead things? xD Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 20, 2012, 12:15:42 pm Hey, I was going along the same lines as Leo; why can't the Hunters have girlfriends? XD
Lol, but actually, he's not really in the Lost Hero. Which was what I was currently reading. =P So it's understandable. =P Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 20, 2012, 12:19:04 pm Oh, right, he didn't show up in that... Makes sense. =P
And Artemis explained that back in Book 3. =P Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 20, 2012, 02:11:54 pm I say boo on Artemis; although I do think it's funny how all the Hunters are supposed to look really good; I wonder if Artemis was supposed to have done that on purpose, lol. =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 20, 2012, 02:35:22 pm What do you mean, literally look good? Yeah, probably on purpose, or it could be Zoe's fault. =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 20, 2012, 06:42:06 pm Lol, yeah, I meant literally. =P How could it be Zoe's fault?
Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 20, 2012, 06:49:08 pm She's old fashioned, and might have tried to make all new recruits look at best as they could. *Shrugs* Probably Artemis' fault, though. =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 20, 2012, 08:27:36 pm Lol, good theory. You just might be right. =P

Title: Re: books. Post by: The Host on January 21, 2012, 10:43:22 am for any who are interested, on a certain social networking site (not sure if site names are banned), a new (well, old really) chapter has been released by Rick Riordan on the official Percy Jackson page. This chapter is a part that was cut out of the first chapter in the first Percy Jackson book. Nothing new plot wise, but cool to read (and find out some camp traditions).
Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 21, 2012, 10:47:23 am Sounds interesting. And no, site names aren't banned here. =P

"Who Has Seen The Wind" Title: Re: books. Post by: The Host on January 21, 2012, 08:21:09 pm Yeah, so what MsRR posted is the link. i was unsure as to what was allowed to be posted, as Facebook isn't moderated. But yeah, on the page there is part of an unwritten chapter.
Does anyone have any books they'd recommend? Age range is basically teen and up. Preferably more on the realistic side of things. Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 21, 2012, 08:50:32 pm Well, you may want to try out the Ranger's Apprentice series; they're not bad.
Title: Re: books. Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on January 21, 2012, 11:16:23 pm If you'd like to get inside your spiritual self a bit I highly recommend Joshua by Joseph Girzone, followed by the rest of the Joshua series. It is written as if Jesus had returned to the world today and roamed as the seemingly ordinary "Joshua".
Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 22, 2012, 09:42:37 am ^ *Resists urge to make any references to Green Day stuff... Oh, whoops, too late* =P Joking aside, it sounds intriguing.
ZLS: Well, I'd have recommended Eragon and the following books; but, well, they're not that realistic, given that they have magic, elves, dragons, and dwarves, and more creatures you wouldn't find here. =P Dunno what you'd think of the Ink series, or if you've read the trilogy, but it was a pretty good series. Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 22, 2012, 11:37:38 am You're talking about Inkheart, right? Those were pretty decent; and a good length for a series too. =P
Hey Blade, have you read Inheritance yet? Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 22, 2012, 11:44:11 am 1. Yeah, that's what I was talking about. =)
2. Finished it about a month ago. Was awesome. =D Title: Re: books. Post by: The Host on January 22, 2012, 01:57:42 pm @ Mahri: never heard of it. I'll look into it.
@MsRR: that sounds pretty interesting. How many books are in the series? @Blade: I've tried to read both Inkheart and Eragon and could not get into them. However, I did read Dragon Rider (by the same author as the Ink series) and enjoyed that, so I may give both series a try again. The Inheritance series now has 4 books right? (I thought it was previously a trilogy...) Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 22, 2012, 02:11:50 pm ZLS: It was a trilogy until the third book; which contained way too much content to simply have three books. =P And it makes sense, because otherwise, the final book would have like 1600 pages. >>'
Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 22, 2012, 02:16:59 pm If you liked Dragon Rider, you should try out another book by the same author; The Theif Lord. Also, the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson and the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan are both really fantastic.
What's wrong with 1600 pages Blade? =P Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 22, 2012, 02:38:30 pm Mostly just the fact that it's huge. =P Nothing really against it, as I read the last two Inheritance books; but I certainly didn't read them both in a row. =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: lionytai on January 22, 2012, 03:59:15 pm Thanks to MsRR for the link.
It depends on the font size as well, Blade. Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 22, 2012, 04:04:54 pm I'm telling you, you have to read the Wheel of Time series; even if they are about an average of 850 pages a piece. They're so worth it. =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 22, 2012, 04:37:28 pm We'll see. I think I filled my quota of 'one huge book a year' for the moment. =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 22, 2012, 04:44:06 pm Lol, the Wheel of Time series is only like 14 huge books, it's not that bad. =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 22, 2012, 04:49:13 pm And you see no problem with that?
Title: Re: books. Post by: The Host on January 22, 2012, 08:24:03 pm Lol, the Wheel of Time series is only like 14 huge books, it's not that bad. =P This actually makes me want to read the series, just to say I have. What genre of book are they?1600 pages would be rediculous for a book. I'm not sure you could read the book without cracking the spine (I hate when that happens). When I read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo I kept the spine in perfect condition (nearly), and then my mom read it and ruined it... Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 23, 2012, 09:06:05 am ^ Very carefully. =P
I actually haven't read that book yet, though it's supposed to be interesting. Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 23, 2012, 10:03:30 am Maybe I should read that book. =P
The Wheel of Time is a fantasy series; I can't really explain it well quickly, but I promise it's good. Nothing ridiculously fictional goes on I guess. =P Title: Re: books. Post by: The Host on January 23, 2012, 06:59:03 pm ^ Very carefully. =P The book is definately not PG, just in case people were wondering, but it was an enjoyable (if not long) read.I actually haven't read that book yet, though it's supposed to be interesting. Maybe I should read that book. =P Cool. I'll look for it next time I go to the library (which should be soon, considering I'm almost out of reading material from Christmas...The Wheel of Time is a fantasy series; I can't really explain it well quickly, but I promise it's good. Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 23, 2012, 08:48:02 pm ZLS: Sweet, you'll have to tell me if you like it. Another book that I would recommend is The Great Yellow Doom Bird; it's an interesting one. Takes place in WWII I believe, (it could be WWI) though it's definitely fiction. It's also limited to about 400 pages at the max. =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: lionytai on January 23, 2012, 09:01:25 pm Do pages really matter? If you read more books, it's still more pages than ONE book.
Title: Re: books. Post by: The Host on January 24, 2012, 12:31:49 pm Do pages really matter? If you read more books, it's still more pages than ONE book. Well, it depends what you like. Sometimes its fun to read a short book because you can read the entire thing at once. But If I buy a book I like to get long ones, so its more worth my money. It also depends on font size and the style of the book. There are some books that are 400-500 pages, but written in a poetic style, with the words forming images on the pages. These books can be read quickly because of how the words are printed. The books could be condensed to 200 page books if they removed the poetry from them, but the books wouldn't make as much sense. I guess pages don't really matter, but it's nice to know what you're getting yourself into, and what size of book you are looking for. And the grandeur of the story... Title: Re: books. Title: Re: books. Post by: The Host on January 24, 2012, 05:34:41 pm I read the first 4 (Angel Experiment, School's Out-Forever, Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports and whatever the other is) and then when I began to read the next ones (Angel, Max and Fang) I got mad at James Patterson for being a lazy and sloppy writer and stopped reading anything by him.
The first MR books were great- unique plot, cool characters and such- but after that everything seemed lacking and the plot didn't seem to be going anywhere but sideways and getting more and more odd with each new book. Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 24, 2012, 06:32:24 pm I haven't ready any of those... Has anyone read the Pendragon series? They're decently well known and liked. :)

Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 24, 2012, 07:39:50 pm They're pretty good. Parts of them even take place in a mostly normal world that you know quite well. =P (Earth, in case anyone was wondering. =P)

However, this comment: I haven't ready any of those... Has anyone read the Pendragon series? They're decently well known and liked. :) Have the entire series. great books, one of the worst endings ever written. Anyone read Ender's Game (and the accompanying series). I would really recommend them. The original book splits off into two other series- one that continues directly and one that continues some 3000 years later. Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 25, 2012, 09:05:35 am Huh, two different endings? How does that work, something similar to the Zelda timeline? =P
Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on January 25, 2012, 06:38:41 pm Anyone here know the bartemaeus trilogy? Great books. I personally thought it had one of the better endings I've read. It seemed very... deserved I guess. And yeah, I have heard of Ender's game, and it's sequels. I just haven't read them, never seemed to have gotten round to it. Title: Re: books. Post by: The Host on January 26, 2012, 10:55:37 am Huh, two different endings? How does that work, something similar to the Zelda timeline? =P Well the first book ends, and then the book after that follows one character 3000 years later. The other series of books begins with a parallel book to Ender's game, but focuses on different characters. Then the following books in that storyline continue in the present. Ender's Game is the main book, and I guess it's almost like a side series, except that both tie into each other in many ways. They're really good books, though, so I'd recommend them. Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on January 26, 2012, 11:37:33 am Ah, I see, so it's two separate stories that get focused on; I see now.

Feast your brick hungry eyes on this eh.... We don't seem to have a topic yet where we discuss books, (MsRR set me straight) you guys remember don't you, they are information sharing devices made from trees. So I came across this book by accident and let me tell you, it's the best book I ever read. It's called "The LEGO Ideas Book UNLOCK YOUR IMAGINATION". It's a DK publication and can be bought at most book stores and found in some libraries as well. I am currently scanning the pages to put them on my pc for easy access (I actually took an x-acto knife to the book so it would fit in my printer). This book is filled with all kinds of cool stuff and a lot great tips and building ideas. You can get the book on-line as well, www.dk.com I'll show you the front cover, but I won't show any more, out of respect to the builders and fear of going to jail (http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/vv176/legodac/pg1cover.jpg) Original post from " Universal MLN " http://universalmln.forumotion.com/forum Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on February 07, 2012, 06:33:11 pm I haven't had time to read as of late, but I am slowly working on New Spring, a novel, by Robert Jordan. It's a prequel to the WoT series.
Title: Re: books. Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on February 07, 2012, 06:36:11 pm Anyone here read Maximum Ride? I'm reading through the first book now. A friend recommended it like a year ago, and I only just remembered I was supposed to be looking for the books that were recommended, after not having any luck finding them at first. xDTitle: Re: books. Post by: The Host on February 08, 2012, 08:34:02 pm Currently reading through Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged... it is really long (over 1000 pages, with each page filled with small font words)... It's kinda interesting, but a long read that gives you a lot to think about, apparently. My librarian at school gave me an extended loan of the book because she said I was doing some serious reading...

Post by: Magical Girl Mimi on February 09, 2012, 11:21:32 am I've read the first book about, maybe, 4 times? At least twice, since I re-read it when I got the three pack when Brisingr came out. They're very good books, I must say. Long, though; which made me pause in my third read-through of the first book. =P

Title: Re: books. Post by: mtmerrick on February 09, 2012, 07:17:15 pm I've read all the books all the way through. Cool! So have I--3 times!! XDi guessed :P *looks at your username* :P Title: Re: books. Post by: The Host on February 09, 2012, 08:16:00 pm Atlas Shrugged is a great read. It's pretty good so far, although it's reeeaallly long, which makes it hard to read, especially when it takes me 1-2 minutes to read a page... Actually, who hasn't read Eragon that's a teenager? =P I tried to read Eragon but couldn't get through it. It's not really my style of book. Maybe if I'd picked it up earlier I would have read it, but when I did try it out it wasn't good for me.Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on February 22, 2012, 07:44:56 pm Elantris by Brandon Sanderson is an excellent book. And for his newest book, The Way of Kings, I've heard nothing but good news. :)

Admittedly, I am not an avid reader but I have this outer desire to hate reading yet this inner desire to read some. I'm already feeling awkward typing about it. I guess the episode of that popular show made me realise it?
Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on February 25, 2012, 11:33:51 pm I love the Hobbit. I believe that I've read it 3 or 4 times; which reminds me, I should read it again. =D

Title: Re: books. Post by: Mahri828 on February 26, 2012, 09:16:34 pm My favorite is in front of a fireplace, on the floor, with the snow falling outside and you're all by yourself...
Title: Re: books. Post by: MsRowdyRedhead on February 26, 2012, 11:04:06 pm I no longer lay on the floor, but curling up in front of the fireplace with a book is a frequent activity for me.

Fire + Books = Evil!!! D= Title: Re: books. Post by: The Host on March 18, 2012, 06:34:53 pm Took a quick (one day) break from Atlas Shrugged and read Animal Farm.
