This Help Topic will deal with the intricacies of flaming, and have examples of what it is, along with why you shouldn't do it.
Flaming is the act of insulting anyone, or writing something that would hurt the other person. Flaming is also when something you write has a possibility of getting someone upset, leave the site, or in any way hurt or be insulted. Flaming goes hand-in-hand with online bullying, and is in fact exactly that. For example, if someone posts, "OMG, you're so stupid you can't even post correctly," then that's flaming. Or, if someone posts, "You're not at all useful and you can't even write the Hello World code properly!!", well, then, that is flaming.
Why you shouldn't do it, is because you would more than likely get a rep drop, and if he/she was your friend, you'd probably lose that friendship. Plus, they'd get sad and possibly leave the site if it happens enough. So, if it just gets people upset and sad, why do it?
