Both headed north. Both have had three main characters. Both have had some means of transportation. It's just Riddle of the Great beings with different characters and flashbacks forced in.

Sahmad's tale is much more than just heading north. According to your explanation, most of the Bionicle story was the same.
2006: There are six toa who are trying to find the Mask of Life. And there's 6 villains plus two other people, one on each side.
2007: There are six toa who are trying to find the Mask of Life. And there's 6 villains plus two other people, one on each side. And some sea beasts thrown in.
2008: There are six toa who are trying to locate keystones and the Codrex. There's 6 villains and other people dsitibuted evenly. And flashbacks.
Plus you can't be sure what is going to happen in ST. Maybe now that Metus has stopped dreaming there will be a different plot...

2001: Bad guys. Toa fight them, go underground, fight more/the same bad guys.... same for 2002 and 2003.
2004: Flash back, six Toa must find great disks and defeat Makuta.
2005: Flashback, the six toa are mutated and must find keetongu and defeat bad guys.
2009/2010: when my mind is cleared, I'll get back to people on this.
