The adult Daniel was speaking to probably thought he was crazy. He changed the subject to something else. History, maybe.

"This... this place has very interesting h-history... d-dictatorships, n-nazis and whatnot... I... I was studying them... but I have no reason to now. Not... not like this."

Despite being surrounded by what he thought were mostly humans, Daniel could not get the anxious out of him. There was something off. It was probably nothing, but a changed view of the world sticks for quite a long time.
