OOC: Don't you just hate having to go to sleep?

IC: Viktor leaned back on his seat, after his meeting with Tyler he has been a little on edge. He'd known people like Tyler, he knows how to deal with them and dispose of them, but he was different in almost every way. Viktor woke up from his day dream with a shock and picked up the phone.

[mtmerrick]

OOC: who ya callin? me?

[Darth Rexus]

OOC: Flipz said my phone was ringing.

==Viktor's Office==
A man's voice, cold by choice rather than nature, rang out from the phone.  "You are the CEO of Infinitus Security.  MI5 are complete idiots, the lazy contractors they hire could be replaced by wet tissue paper and it'd be an improvement.  You will rectify their error.  This is not a question, it is a statement of fact; I do not work with anyone less than the best, which is why you were selected.  Money is not an object.  Meet me in three days at the address you will recieve by email in thirty seconds, come in an unmarked vehicle.  If you are followed, you will die.  Drive yourself personally.  Are there any questions?"

==Roughly a century ago==
It was odd to sense the thoughts of a dead woman.

Regulus knew it was unlikely that she knew anything of substance about the project--once he had worked out that she was but the hapless, subject, that became clear--but it worked, blast it, and every scrap of data was worth whatever price he had to pay.

*BANG*

Apparently, this time it was his life.

Regulus calmly looked down at the blossoming crimson stain that spread through his shirt where his chest used to be.  It was riddled with bullet holes, from tommy guns if the weapons carried by the suited, fedora-donning goons surrounding him were any indication.  Easy exit, then, he wouldn't have to chew even if they did something foolish like dumping the body in the river.  A bit early, but I would hardly say unexpected.  Indeed, this one lasted me far longer than I had planned, given the circumstances.

The last thing Arthur Regulus II saw was the face of a man standing behind the ring of Family goons...a face he hadn't seen for ten years.  Just the man I was looking for...

[Darth Rexus]

"Indeed I have a question..." Viktor held the phone away from his mouth and chuckled "...Who wants you dead?"

[Trijhak]

[Location: Tyler's garage]

"I don't drive. I take public transport. Also, how did you get so many cars?"

[mtmerrick]

"Inheritance." He plucked a key off the wall and opened an Audi R8. "You like driving fast?"

[Trijhak]

"I said I don't drive. And I don't care about speed, or efficiency, as long as I end up at the intended destination."

[mtmerrick]

"Well, let's get going." He said, hopping in with Daniel. They sped off in speeds in excess of R17, and soon arrived at a massive mansion. "Home sweet home"

[Trijhak]

"All of this fortune you must have... this luck... it seems almost too good to be true."

[mtmerrick]

"Trust me, getting this wasn't easy. That is to say, it took generations to build all this up. It wasn't easy for... anyone involved. "

[Trijhak]

"You inherited it, I assume. And I would assume you have staff to do some of the more trivial things?"

[mtmerrick]

"Almost never. I live alone, no family, so if I clean up after myself there's not much for a maid or butler to do. My..... predecessor even redid the air conditioning system so no one would have to dust. So I hire a gardener as needed, and a kitchen staff if I have a formal dinner, but past that I have no need for staff." He explained as they walked in.

[Trijhak]

"I would imagine there's probably a room you've forgotten about, in this huge place. Probably very dusty, very dark, and very creepy. Like in the movies, although... actually, disregard that thought. It was stupid of me to think that."

[mtmerrick]

"Not too crazy. There actually was a room like that once, three owners ago. An out-of-sight part of the library. Way too many cobwebs.“

[Trijhak]

"How can you know what it was like three owners ago, unless they only owned this place for a year or so?"

[mtmerrick]

"Stories. Chris was a great speaker, he could paint pictures in your head that seemed real as any other memory. I was never able to learn that from him, completely."

OOC: not a single lie here, not really. Chris (last host) was actually friends with his predecessor, and it takes several decades for a merge to be 100%. when a host is killed some of the host's abilities tend to die with them.

[Trijhak]

"Uh, okay. Not much else to ask... what's that?"

Later that night



Tyler showed Daniel to one of the guest rooms. As he walked inside Daniel realized it wasn't a room as much as a small apartment. It had a bedroom with extravagant bathroom, living room with impressive entertainment system, and a small kitchen. A closet even had its own clothes washer and dryer, everything was done in a vaugely steampunk style
"I'll let you know when dinner's ready. Any requests?"

[Flipz]

"Indeed I have a question..." Viktor held the phone away from his mouth and chuckled "...Who wants you dead?"

"The future." *CLICK*

==Roughly a century ago==
"No, no, take him to my laboratory.  Something is not right here."  Minutes later, Regulus felt his former host's body dumped unceremoniously on an operating table.  He could have easily broken through the swiss cheese that had once been his host's chest, but that would be insanity--there was no way this could possibly have gone better.

Well, aside from the dying part, but that was easily rectified.  He settled in and waited, taking the opportunity to regenerate and organize his latest host's memories.  Life was so...chaotic, he didn't understand why the rest of his kind were in such a rush to take on their new form.  Just a few carefully timed delays, and all that they wanted would be dropped in their lap.  Regulus chuckled softly at the irony of that human metaphor, considering he currently didn't have a lap.  Such is life, he thought.

Hours later, Dr. Allen walked purposefully into his lab, and saw what would have been the most memorable sight of his life--were it not for the razor-sharp claws that plunged into his spine moments later.  A few minutes work--and the not-so-good doctor left his lab nonchalantly, completely unaware of just what had transpired.

Right, Regulus thought.  The other half will be on the surface...time for a new host, I think.  I do hope my son's staying out of trouble...
