"Surely you remember the Dove trial?  A giant mobile fortress in the middle of London,  almost an eighth of the city leveled and another quarter severely damaged?  Our government did a decent job of covering it up, but our kind has always been adept at avoiding such endeavors."

"Anyhow, after Clive's attack was foiled, there were still some...developments left behind.  As one of the few people who even knew anything remained from that, I was able to produce some...interesting developments.  Once the more reckless rabble was out of the way, I was free to resume my primary research--coincidentally, not long after I finished rennovations, I started losing personnel.  I assumed it was remnants of the Family--they were always annoying little pests, even after they fell apart--but in light of more recent events perhaps it was our common enemy, testing the waters to see if I'd be suspicious.  I'm afraid I failed that test, if that was the case."  At Matthews' look, Regulus clarified, "I speak of the mysterious killer, of course.  Infinitus is a common foe as well, but we know who he is, he's insignificant.  Suffice to say that when my research is complete, he'll bring an entire new meaning to the phrase 'wished he was never born.'"  Regulus chuckles darkly.  "But we can speak of this more when we reach Midland Road.  For now, I want to talk about you.  What do you remember about your previous host's death?"

"Ah.  Well, Lord Regulus is quite adept at finding the people he wants, when he wants them.  I'd wager whatever's on that thing could be useful.  May I?"  He asked, extending a hand for the media device while he nodded at the back-seat TV screens.

"Ah, yes. I have heard of that, but i was in Japan at the time, so i wan't actually there. I lost a lot of the details."

The next morning, Kaze found Alexa with a few-years-old Mitsubishi sports car, loaded up with gear. "How's this?"

"Heh heh heh...you'll see what I've made from the madman's last work.  I think you'll be impressed."

As Regulus leads Jarvis and Matthews down a quiet alleyway, he studies the latter's reactions.  Interesting...this one has lead some very different lives than I have.  Something to consider for the future...  He leads them inside an innocuous-looking clock shop, quaint in appearance but obviously restored multiple times since its original construction.  Within are hundreds of ticking clocks, some digital, many not.  The sensitive symbiotes' ears are the only ones able to pick up the subtle musicality of the quiet cacophany.  Regulus smiles.  "Each time I find one of our kind, I bring them here.  It's usually their first indication that I am one of their kindred."  He enters a larger room to the left of the shop room itself, striding purposefully to a massive machine, with a huge, two-story analog clock face at its heart.  Regulus grasps a lever on the side, one not unlike the reverser on an antique steam engine.  In fact, almost everything in the building appears to be either a replica or a restoration of things that are over a hundred years old.  "So, my friend.  Are you ready...to go back in time?"

OOC: SPOILER ALERT!  1.) He's messing with you, it's not literal time travel, and 2.) no, you don't really have a choice.

Tyler was impressed. He knew more about theoretical time travel than most anyone (he had lived a lifetime of quantum physics after all) so he knew this obviously was metaphorical, but was still intrigued to see what happened next. He nodded at Regulus's request.

"Hey! Listen, sorry about not calling to chat more often, but I think someone wants me dead."

OOC: have you added her profile to the main page yet?

IC: "O_O what do you mean?"

"Yeah, there are three bullet holes in the wall, and a note that says 'I'm gonna kill you'. Maybe because of that time I hacked the Russian Government? Or when we took over the US Government's servers to host that multiplayer contest?"

OOC: wiretaps y'know?   only Verizon vwreless and VOIP is protected.

"Duh. You don't think I learned from last time?"

OOC: Random: OpenDNS just came out with DNSCrypt, the first real DNS encryption software. I downloaded it this morning, seems to be working well.

OOC: Yeah.

IC: "Maybe. Think you could maybe come over and help me out? You do owe me after I took the blame for that incident with the CIA."

Alexa winces. "You had to bring that up. Fine. Actually me and a friend had something to do out in california..... we can stop by on the way, I think"

"Can you hurry? Because there's a bullet hole that wasn't there a minute ago."

OOC: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR PROFESSOR LAYTON AND THE UNWOUND FUTURE AHEAD!  All further spoilers will be UNMARKED until the period of explaining them is over.

The walls shook, and there was a sudden jolt as the machine activated.  Everyone present felt a sudden surge of nausea, as if the floor was dropping out from beneath them.  Just a minute later, everything stopped and fell silent.  Regulus gestured toward the door, but did not move.  As the door slowly opened, Tyler was greeted by an amazing sight.

Before him lay a transformed London, a mixture of past and future.  Not old enough to be "steampunk," nor dark enough to be "cyberpunk," it was a perfect symbiotic blend that refused to be classified by any category known to human art.

"Welcome to the past, Mr. Matthews.  Or rather, the future of the past."  Chuckling at Jarvis' slightly irritated glare, he gestured graciously toward his friend.  "Oh, all right, be literal if you must."

Jarvis rolled his eyes at his fellow symbiote's childishness.  He always did have to take them a bit too young, he thought to himself.  Well, can't be helped.  "As part of his plan, Clive Dove joined forces with a brilliant scientist named Dimitri Allen, to build this place.  I don't know the full details of the scheme--Lord Regulus is the only person prudent enough to take the knowledge from the responsible parties--but essentially, it was a deception designed to convince kidnapped scientists that the only way they could get back to their families was by building a time machine to take them back in time.  It also served as a useful distraction for a prominent professor of the day and his allies, though it ultimately failed its purpose in that regard."

Regulus picked up again.  "After Clive's mobile fortress fell back down here and destroyed, the place was wiped clean and filled with rubble.  Having been down here, and having seen the potential for a completely secure city of research facilities and monitoring centers, I diverted my existing plans to refurbishing this place.  The only way in or out of here is that "time machine"--actually a simple high-speed elevator, albeit a rather archaic design--meaning that I can control who gets in and out of here.  At least in theory, anyway--somehow, assassins manage to make their way down here every few months.  It's rather annoying, and why I was hoping Infinitus could help me--but obviously, that was a poor decision on my end."

"But come.  There is one last feature of this facility that you should see--but it requires privacy even from my own trusted personnel.  this way."

"I'll do what I can." She hung up and turned to kaze. "Up for a rescue mission first?"

"Alright. Catching part of that conversation, it sounds like your friend may be having a similar problem to my whole 'people are out to kill me' situation, and I definitely don't want that problem to spread. Let's go." Omega said with a nod.
