I'm sorry that the Notebook is producing intermittent noise. The Fans in a Notebook are generally located near the LCD screen. The Hard Drive in a Notebook is generally located near the Touchpad. If the noise is produced from the Hard Drive. Follow the steps provided in the link* given below and check if the issue is resolved:

*You may be asked to enable or allow the link to work.

If the noise is from the Fan, I suggest you to change the CPU Fan control settings and check if it resolves the issue. Follow the steps that are provided below:

1) Control Panel
2) Hardware and Sound
3) Power Options
4) Change Plan Settings
5) Change Advance Power Settings
6) VAIO Power Management Tab
7) CPU Fan Control

NOTE: We have some known issues with the Computer fan that makes an abnormally loud scraping noise, or a chirping or clicking sound for VGN-CS100 and 200 series Notebooks and requires Onsite service. Please contact our telephone support staff who will be happy to provide further diagnosis and assistance

The only Sony Store where I live happens to be in the most packed mall EVER.  Angry
